I'm sorry but when Agatha was Exorcisting all over the cabin and Rio so casually asked, "Are you okay, sweetheart?" I almost fell off my chair laughing. The deadpan delivery by Aubrey Plaza was ✨chef's kiss✨.
Agatha feels coded as a self destructive addict. The subtext says her mom hated her queerness & left to her own devices she resorted to dark magic as both a coping mechanism & to feel good. She seems to lean in to being the bad guy as a defense mechanism because she feels pushed into a corner & people don’t want to see her redeem herself
@ProdCritic "The subtext says her mom hated her queerness & left to her own devices she resorted to dark magic as both a coping mechanism & to feel good." 🤔Isn't this what all addicts do: blame others for the cause of their addiction instead of taking personal responsibility? Imo only crackbabies have a legitimate reason to blame their crack mothers for their addiction. 😶While external factors like rejection or trauma can contribute to someone’s struggles, including addiction, personal responsibility is also crucial in addressing and overcoming these challenges. It’s important to recognize that each individual’s situation is unique and multifaceted. "The subtext says her mom hated her queerness & left to her own devices she resorted to dark magic as both a coping mechanism & to feel good." 🖐Witches, especially in the 16th century, could be seen as defying societal norms and embracing unconventional ideas, including same-sex relationships and adds another layer to their characters. 🧠It makes sense that Agatha’s mother, being a witch herself, might have had a more complex relationship with societal norms and expectations.
@@LongDefiant "liberalism has rotted your brain." 😏LoL I'm a pragmatic who realised a long time ago that modern society only makes people addicted to luxury. Sure a supportive society helps, but your excuse that you 'can't take personal responsibility on your own' already is admitting defeat.
@@TrickyD the vast majority of your life has already been super determined by economic and political reality. Calling people out for lack of effort is just ignoring the 99% that's bad and focusing on the 1% that's in your control. And when it's 99 versus 1, the one never wins..
i am LOVING all of your analyses on these episodes, because i have a hard time picking up on these motifs and hints and symbolism so it's really interesting to hear you break it all down, and also i love being able to hear another person freaking out over agatha and rio's relationship!
Fantastic video. Most other channels analyzing this episode covered the same stuff as each other- but you covered completely different things with a super high attention to detail - esp. to the relationship dynamics. Love it thank you!
@pathevermore3683 "When agatha says "you are so.much like your mother" a few notes from the wandavision main theme play." If Agatha had simply stated that Rio is Teen's mother all these circumstancial evidence of music, resemblance & powerset would have been resolved already. 😕Now I have to wait till the last episode for being confirmed to be right all along. This is just like *WV* where I was right for knowing that 'Fake Pietro' played by Peter Evans wasn't the real MCU Pietro played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
@@TrickyD Rio isn’t teen’s mother though, neither is Agatha. Teen is able to say the name of Agatha’s son (Nicholas Scratch) but not his own name (Billy Kaplan/Maximoff). Agatha saying “You are so much like your mother” is referring to Wanda. Edit: Also, I thought it was a part of Wandavision’s credits theme that plays in that moment?
@@xeldalachyrule "Teen is able to say the name of Agatha’s son (Nicholas Scratch) but not his own name (Billy Kaplan/Maximoff). " 😏LoL In the MCU, Billy Maximoff disappeared when Wanda’s hex was lifted. The ability to say Nicholas Scratch’s name but not his own could be tied to the specific circumstances and magical rules within the MCU. Agatha’s sacrifice of Nicholas Scratch to obtain the Darkhold might have created a unique situation that allowed his name to be spoken. Billy Kaplan might not have the same significance in the MCU as he does in the comics, which could explain why his name isn’t as prominent. The narrative choices in the MCU often differ from the comics to fit the storyline and character arcs.
@@TrickyD It’s not because of “the specific circumstances and magical rules within the MCU”, it’s because of the sigil he’s marked with (the one described as “rushed” or “messy” and “sans-serif” by one of the show-runners). While things between the MCU and the comics may differ, something like a character’s identity (Wiccan, in this instance) are things that stay the same, mostly minor differences in backstory or role in the MCU. Not to mention, very real and non-Hex versions of Billy and Tommy exist in the multiverse (as seen in Multiverse of Madness), leaving the possibility open that Teen was born as Kaplan but with the abilities and ‘energy’ or essence of Maximoff. I hope that makes sense. Not to mention Teen’s crown/tiara being incredibly similar to Wanda’s crown/tiara, almost one-to-one in fact. Teen’s frames his face but not as much as Wanda’s frames hers and Teen’s one is blue while Wanda’s is red. Safe to say, it’s more likely than not that Teen is Billy Maximoff in some way, shape or form. At least in my opinion. We’ll just have to wait and see, I guess.
@@xeldalachyrule "It’s not because of “the specific circumstances and magical rules within the MCU”, it’s because of the sigil he’s marked with (the one described as “rushed” or “messy” and “sans-serif” by one of the show-runners)." 😏And my point is that Teen's name might not have been Nick Scratch, Billy Maximoff or Billy Kaplan.
Lilia is very interesting. I like that Jen was very blunt and flippantly essentially said let’s see what trauma we have in store here. Rio being protective was great. Not at all surprising. Billie Eilish’s song at the credits was perfect! Ep 5 was intense. Visually though I kept rewinding because when they crossed over the moon I fell in love with that shot. Thanks for this reaction.
@@JayBobert-h1l "I don't understand why people keeping saying this. We don't have the context to deduce if Evanora is in the right or not ." 🖐Fact is that Agatha did kill her coven, had used the Darkhold thus practiced the darkest of magic and has committed matricide. This all points to Evanora being in the right when she proclaimed that Agatha was born evil, because in all the centuries Agatha has lived she has been anything but good.
Agatha's brashness is totally a defense mechanism. I kept wondering if the trial was actually over. This trial did feel different. The moon phase not being in the door. The goal being turned against another witch instead of the coven having to work together. And Agatha didn't really overcome anything. So I think her trial continues with her, Lilia, and Jen having to get back on the road for starters.
Some more clues that this trial is not like the others are the fact that the aspect ratio didn’t change when they entered like the others, and that they exited upwards instead of downwards.
I think this episode we get a "trick" instead of trial. Everything felt off once they passed thru Vertigo and her cicadas. In the first two trials (and entering the road), when they successfully complete them, a door opens leading down (down down down the road). In Agatha's "trial" a staircase opens leading up. They feel off to me because of how they reacted in regards to Sharon's death versus Alice's. Jen calls Agatha out on how insensitive she is about Sharon's death, and Lillia seems annoyed by how dismissive Agath is, too. So these are the same women, who just watched a fellow witch who they had begun bonding with die, and all they got for her is a shrug? Nah, somethings off. Edit/Addition: The aspect ratio changed for the first two trials and didn't for Agatha's. Indicating something is different about her "trial".
Ooo that’s interesting. Though I think being more upset about Alice was because Agatha directly caused that death and they had known Alice longer than Sharon. They were still going to go down the road, just without Agatha.
@Superduperkas "So these are the same women, who just watched a fellow witch who they had begun bonding with die, and all they got for her is a shrug? Nah, somethings off." 🕵♂All the witches knew Sharon was only in the coven because she had a green thumb and wasn't a green witch. So Sharon was a civilian Agatha tricked into the coven while Alice knew full well what she was getting into when she joined the coven.
I sort of agree? I think we are being tri ked into thinking it's Agathas trial because it's Teens. Agatha plays the lead role because she has been Teens mother figure on the road thus far and Teens trauma is based around his actual mother
@@kpearce7961 "I think we are being tri ked into thinking it's Agathas trial because it's Teens." 🤔How can it be Teen's trial when he never was part of the coven?
🤩This show is written so superb that the fanbois are falling for the exact same trap they fell for in *WV.* The intricate storytelling of *AAA* really does keep viewers on their toes, much like *The Usual Suspects.* The clever twists & turns make it a show worth rewatching to catch all the subtle hints & foreshadowing. 🤓It’s always impressive to see how well-crafted writing can engage & challenge the audience, making them think & re-evaluate their assumptions.
I feel like the appereance of Rio befor Agatha wakes up from her illusion was teen's job, because at the time that Rio broke the door and attacked Agatha she told her long time no see
i've seen someone put together lilia's visions to say 'alice don't' 'try to save agatha' and also mentioning her first vision in her apartment may have been about the demonic possession thing, which is why she said 'i hated this the first time'
I'm pretty sure Lilia's comment about not liking it the first time was a reference to her freak-out in Ep2 when she started screaming as she was experiencing the future. Her body language is even the same with her hands on either side of her head.
You could be right! I thought that it might have been connected to episode four where the record was playing backwards at first but Teen's comment about Lilia being "weird" made me think there's something more to it.
This to me was a more a Trick than a Trail. I feel maybe those bugs did soemthing to them. I dont think it was natural to all turn on agatha. Something is fishy here
I like Agatha, and i mean, this is her serie. But dont forget that she is a villain and a killer (just like Wanda) of course the rest of the coven will turn against her
@JSV-pr4qo "This to me was a more a Trick than a Trail." 😎Which fits Agatha’s character perfectly, because she is all about cunning & manipulation. She prefers to use her wits & dark magic to outsmart her opponents before resorting to brute force. This approach not only showcases her intelligence but also highlights the nature of her dark powers, which often thrive on deception & trickery.
They turned on Agatha because they literally just watched her kill one of her own coven.... something they've talked about more than once in this show...even her own ghost mama said it 😂
They did break all the rules to the ouija board so it could have something to do with that , I was thinking the same thing cuz they were all acting a little off other than teen
Every time Rio is protective over Agatha my heart stopped also this series has more easter eggs than a Taylor Swift music video im embarrassed I didn't pick up on more of them
One of my main complaints so far is how dark it was on the road up until when they enter this trial. I could barely make out any details. And I think we could be seeing the shot of Jen coming out from ground near the city sign that we saw in the previews.
I think the car wreck was the Kaplan family. The parents were saved by airbags, but Billy Kaplan died. Billy Maximoff's soul had just been released from the hex and I believe he took over Billy Kaplan's body, reviving him, and making his story a near death. Agatha said East view because everyone under Wanda's hex referred to west view as east view, like the cops outside the hex.
The song lyrics go "through many miles of tricks and trial, we'll wonder high and low. Tame your fears a door appears. The time has come to go." This refers to both entering the road and moving to the next trial. But Agatha didn't tame her fears so maybe she will have to redo her trial near the final episodes. We know from the promos that the earth trial happens in that futuristic tower as it collapses when Agatha is seen escaping. Lilia's is the air trial either episode 6 or 7 where the Salem Seven attack them and they all go flying in the air. But there's still the final trial with the green sky and Rio walking with Agatha's house behind her.
the Eastview article said 3 yrs ago, Eastview (in the car when Billy tells about himself that Agatha can’t hear he starts with saying he’s from Eastview). the 2 front airbags deployed (Mr & Mrs Kaplan who survived), and blood found in backseat (Billy Kaplan, 13, who died or was dying, Teen says to Alice “a lot happened to me at 13 too)), but Billy Maximoff’s soul, as the Hex was disappearing in Westview at this exact same moment as the crash, went into Billy Kaplan’s body. Billy is both Billy Maximoff and Billy Kaplan combined. We will meet Mr & Mrs Kaplan. (Tommy’s soul goes into a different not related teen (Tommy Shepherd) and they don’t find each other and realize who each other is til they’re in the young avengers later. Tommy’s in juvie in the comics when young avengers identify him as another teenager with ties to the Avengers). I’m assuming Tommy will be part of VisionQuest to complete the trilogy and character stories going into main other MCU projects that include Wiccan & Speed) All why ppl who think the same actors who played the twins should have continued, and comment Joe looks different, don’t make any sense. Billy (and Tommy) are literally in completely different bodies now / ongoing.
Have we ever seen Agatha use magic that wasn't Purple, or after she's stolen it has it always been shown as Purple? The fact that Agatha manifested Alice's power as Orange could have been the thing that finally convinced her of who Teen's mother was and that the last "trial" was all a form of mind magic similar to what Wanda did to Westview (although on a much smaller scale). Getting that small of a detail wrong makes a lot of sense if Teen has only ever read about Agatha's power rather than actually seeing it in action.
The rest of that article about the near death says it also happened three years ago, or when Billy was 13. "Agnes" mentioned there was blood in the backseat. But I could see that Rio maybe had a mystery of these two souls who weren't dead and weren't ghosts, and maybe planned out a deal. She'd save the two souls, but the witch one would help her get Agatha on the Road once Rio found her. But I think Wanda's curse was continuing to hide her from Rio, just not as well. So Rio needed to have her broken out. I am thinking we open the next episode with Rio emerging and just say, so it was time for this? But we spend more of the episode with the other three in the real world and learning Billy's backstory when like his boyfriend arrives to pick them up because this was a plan.
The five witch colors for the purpose of a coven walking the road: - Blue - Water - Full Moon - Potion Witch - Jennifer - Red - Fire - Waxing Moon - Protection Witch - Alice - Purple - Spirit - Blood Moon - Spirit Witch - Agatha - Yellow - Air - New Moon - Divination Witch - Lilia - Green - Earth - Waning Moon - Green Witch - Rio
One thing you didn't mention, but is an interesting quirk of the episode is the lack of aspect ratio shift on going into the trial itself, in marked contrast to the two previous trials. Any thoughts on that?
It could be a hint that something was different about this trial compared to the previous ones (which would align with the missing bracelets and Lilia's comment about "the first time")? It could link back (or be an Easter egg) to WandaVision where (to my memory) they also played around with the aspect ratio to create clues about the narrative as well. I hope we get some answers next episode!
If Wiccan is a reincarnation of Billy Maximoff, maybe they’re going to play it as Rio being the one who brought him back. So now he probably wants to get revenge on Agatha for his mom and maybe that’s what Rio was referring to when she said “I had to do something because it’s my job…” because she knows he’s going to kill Agatha.
I’ve said this somewhere else but I think that Agatha was latent to exhibit powers and her mom treated her bad for it and when they manifested it was the purple absorbing power which was new and why her mom said she was born evil. First because she felt Agatha was a disappointment with no power and then coming into her power that can kill others. I also think Agatha, on a quest for power when she was young, said she’d give up her first born for magic not thinking she’d ever have a child. When she actually had him nothing happened but he was collected on his 7th birthday and left behind was the darkhold. Like maybe Rio held off taking him because she was intrigued by Agatha because their powers are opposite of each other. Rio can heal or put life into the world as a green witch and Agatha absorbs life as a purple witch so she stuck around her and as a deal she said she’d let him grow but didn’t say for how long.
@12times21 "I’ve said this somewhere else but I think that Agatha was latent to exhibit powers and her mom treated her bad for it and when they manifested it was the purple absorbing power which was new and why her mom said she was born evil." 🖐Agatha Harkness’s abilities are rooted in witchcraft, and her purple absorbing power could very well be a manifestation of her magical prowess or a dark gift acquired from the Darkhold. This distinction between witches and mutants is important, as it highlights the different sources of their powers.
This one is definitely tinfoil-hat worthy, but hear me out- Agatha's mom hating her from the start makes me wonder who her father is, and if it could be Mephisto. After all, there are plenty of witch-trial tales of witches communing with the devil in various ways, and it would give him a more grounded tie-in to the MCU than following his comic origins line for line. Also, if Rio also has "professional" ties to Mephisto, that would also give their paths a chance to cross beyond Agatha's talent for killing people. Just a thought I had on a second watch!
@witchofwhatif "After all, there are plenty of witch-trial tales of witches communing with the devil in various ways" 🙄You are aware that this is Christian Church propaganda, right? To undermine any matriarchal tendencies. For the exact same reason Lilith was propaganda to discourage Jewish women for demanding equal rights? Historically, many tales of witches communing with the devil were indeed influenced by church propaganda. These stories were often used to undermine & control women, especially those who exhibited independence or defied societal norms. Similarly, the figure of Lilith in mythology has been interpreted as a symbol of female independence and defiance. In some Jewish folklore, Lilith is depicted as Adam's 1st wife who refused to be subservient to him and was subsequently demonized. This narrative has been seen by some as a way to discourage women from demanding equal rights and asserting their independence. The historical context behind these tales is quite revealing. The narratives of witches and figures like Lilith were often shaped by societal and religious agendas to control & suppress women who defied traditional roles. 🧐These stories serve as a reminder of how power dynamics and cultural attitudes can influence the portrayal of certain groups. It’s intriguing to see how these themes continue to resonate in modern discussions about gender and equality.
That's what I thought, I really do think Nicholas is Agatha and Rio's. My theory is that Agatha accidentally drained Nicholas, whe he says "mama stop" i don't think he was talking about Alice, it was a memory from when everything happened. she asked Rio to save him but bc it's her job she had no choice but to take him. So Agatha hates her bc she took him and Rio hates Agatha bc she killed Nicholas.
When it comes to the colors the next trial is Lilias as the apparel like shirts show her main color ism yellow. That being said don't forget hers is Tarot Divination trial so Wiccan may have sent them to the next trial but would prefer episode 5 to be the flashback episode. As mud can also be healing properties to cool everyone off and bond them as a true coven is needed to complete the road.
That's true, her colour is yellow and it would explain the yellow sky above them too! I was thinking of the elements but their own personal colours actually make sense since the purple toadstools pointed to Agatha's trial last episode.
@@SapphicUnderground TBH I thought EP 5 was going to be Lilias 2 weeks ago bec I didn't notice personal colors had no white and most ppl consider white divination. I still hope they don't drag Wiccans backstory. And I don't think Wiccan will be part of Lilias as I did not see him in the Tower scenes in the trailers. Wiccan might have had the door closed on him when being chased by the Salem 7 again.
not sure why ppl are so surprised Billy tossed Lilia and Jen in too, saying they didn’t do anything. Both of them abandoned Agatha, both of them dismissed Alice’s death and just walked away leaving her body. Neither argued about everyone being after power. He snapped at Agatha’s bringing up Wanda and once again calling him Pet and mocking him (and by knowing he’s Wanda’s son this “come, Pet” kind of mocks her too)… and he’s just done with them all. But Lilia and Jen were not “Innocent” like ppl are saying.
4:40 : Oh dear, the baby bear theory is so cute buuuut, my girl, you are reaching. It's adorable. But the chances this connection exists are as high as my chances of marrying Aubrey in the next 6 months.
@@SapphicUnderground I'll be sure to come back and pologize if you were right :D But already I can admit that by the end of the video, when you explained Rio's look to Agatha, you had me reinterpreting the scene. I thought she was worried at Agatha, but maybe there was some disappointment (?) or judging (?) there. We know Agatha isn't emotionally brave. She has to constantly wear a mask and prefers to flee rather than face her issues. That's why she hide all those years under the Darkhold. Now combined with your theory of Rio being the Mama Bear... What if Nicholas death braught immense pain to Rio and she recents Agatha for running away, leaving her alone to face this reality? We know Agatha was hurting, but she abandonned Rio. She abandonned her after she had to (supposedly), ferry Nicholas to the underworld. Maybe she is angry at Agatha for thinking that she would be unaffected by his Death? Because he was *their* son and not only Agatha's? ... Those two need serious counselling.
@@kokiburiwallas1261 "That's why she hide all those years under the Darkhold." ☠The Darkhold is notorious for its corrupting influence. By choosing to rely on it, Agatha likely found herself increasingly entangled in dark magic, making it even harder to break free from its grasp. It’s a classic case of opening Pandora’s Box-once the dark forces are unleashed, they can be nearly impossible to contain.
@@TrickyDEspecially since Ep05 shows Agatha easily "drunk" with power. I trust she can't control her ability to but the fact that she looks delighted to absorb Alice's powers at some point is undeniable. Possible she got the Darkhold in part to try and save Nicholas, but also to drown her sorrow in all this dark magic.
@@kokiburiwallas1261 "I trust she can't control her ability to but the fact that she looks delighted to absorb Alice's powers at some point is undeniable." 😮You trust someone who easily manipulates people into doing her bidding and simply discards them when used without even using her witchcraft? I find it extremely challenging to trust someone with such a manipulative nature, especially when they seem to take pleasure in absorbing others’ powers. Agatha’s actions and demeanor suggest a deep-seated desire for control and power, making it nearly impossible for me to see her as trustworthy.
Is it just me that’s really interested in how Rio and Billy will interact. While they both have ties to Agatha they haven’t actually properly interacted yet. And now it’s just them on the Road. Is Billy gonna try and drown Rio as well? Is he gonna lie to her because he remembered the argument about having to leave the road with at least two witches? Will Rio realise what’s going on? (I mean she probably will, but will she play along or go after Agatha?!)
I think there were several clues that Billy and Rio are in cahoots. Starting with, she didn't seem concerned about an intruder being in Agatha house. She stopped Agatha when she kicked him out of the chair, but mostly the black heart thing. He was there watching that whole exchange with Agatha and Rio. Why wouldn't he be able to connect the dots when Lilia said the 4th person was a black heart? 🤔🤔🤔
Rio’s connection to Agatha’s baby is most likely having to be the entity who carries away his soul upon dying since she’s been pretty well revealed to be Death. That’s why Agatha was Rio’s scar. The thing Rio had to do that hurt someone she loved was taking the soul of Agatha’s child. She may be a baby momma too, and that would be an interesting reveal, but I really think it’s more about her role as Death in claiming his soul.
I have been loving this show but yeah the episodes are SO SHORT. I really have no idea why, seems like they could have spaced them out to 40 mins and maybe not have a 2 episode finale which is also weird.
@najtrows "I have been loving this show but yeah the episodes are SO SHORT." 😎It’s often better to have a shorter show with high-quality content than a longer one filled with unnecessary filler scenes. Quality over quantity can make the viewing experience much more enjoyable & impactful.
Ok. So. I think Rio was either wrong or lying when she told us it was Agatha's trial. It seems pretty obviously Wiccans. 1: The setting of the trial is based around the witch it represents. This camp/sleepover theme of this trial does not represent Agatha is any particular way, but is a solid represention for a teen. 2. Wiccans is the one who comes into his power after this trial. 3. There are two banners for "Eastview" and "Westview". Most people watching Joe Lockes face when his voice is muted in the car (EP 2)believe the sentence he is starting "I was born..." ends in "in Eastview" and assume that " the car wreck in Eastview" is a reference the near death experience mentioned in the paper. All of this implying Wiccans body (or ...?)is from Eastview, and Wiccans we know, is born in Westview. He is the character best represented by those two banners. There is also a scoreboard shot (blue scoreboard) in the credits showing an Eastview/Westview game with the team name "Blue Devils" 3. We have been shown that Agatha's trauma is based around her son, who is only touched on lightly here, as he was in Jenn's trial. Wiccans trial would understandably be centered around his mother, as this trial arguably was. 4: Here is where things get more abstract but I think clinch it. Agatha's role in the trial. Things start out with a little creepy fun and games, and a false Mrs. Hart. Things sour quite quickly and the coven quickly turn on Agatha circling and pushing in on her with the intent to punish. (Picture the the people of Westview reacting to Wanda right after the Hex is lifted...) We have the magical involvement of an excess Harkkness showing up and digging up old painful dirt. Then things go right off the rails when this mother figure (PORTRAYED by Agatha)is possessed by this dark force. Once possessed she starts crawling around like a frighting creep and even goes so far as to attack her allies....or basically what Wanda was given to do in Multiverse of Madness. By the end nobody trusts her and everyone is furious with her, including Wiccan. Agatha just did a 5 min recap of Wandas story and nobody seems to be noticing. It's making me feel a bit crazy.
"Agatha just did a 5 min recap of Wandas story and nobody seems to be noticing. It's making me feel a bit crazy." 🕵♂The difference is that Wanda's grief in *WV* stemmed from the loss of her true 💖 Vision, which led her to create the hex around Westview. On the other hand, Agatha Harkness' story in *AAA* reveals a much darker path. Agatha sacrificed her own child, Nicholas Scratch, to obtain the Darkhold. This stark contrast highlights the different motivations and moral choices between the 2 characters. 🤓It's interesting how these backstories shape their actions and the overall narrative.
@kpearce7961 "Ok. So. I think Rio was either wrong or lying when she told us it was Agatha's trial. It seems pretty obviously Wiccans." 😏If it was Teen's triall why: 1) does the color purple only correspond to a spirit trial? 2) is the color purple Agatha's and not Teen's? 3) this could've been Teen's trial when he never has been part of the coven?
Agatha called Lilia a coward in episode 2 when she was trying to goad the Coven into blasting her, plus all of Lilia's outfits so far have been yellow, including her younger self during her hallucination in episode 3, so I do believe the yellow trial is the air trial, which will be Lilia's.
It sounds like Rio's voice saying it in the promo though (it's on the official Marvel twitter/X page) but you are right about Lilia's outfits! Yellow is her colour so it makes sense.
I love your analysis! I wonder if when Teen’s powers manifest, they take over and he is almost on autopilot. It would explain why expels Jen and Lilia instead of Agatha alone. Maybe having lost himself in his power in this instance will allow him to believe Agatha when she says she can’t control draining other witches. Perhaps this is how he comes to forgive her.
Isn’t it interesting that 1. The group broke all of the rules for the board except the last one, which was only followed by the person who got his powers? Just something interesting
4:14 Or Teen's mum is Rio. 😉The fact that this sapphic channel did entertain this possibility is pleasantly surprising. I myself came up with this 2 days ago. The bear with flower = Rio who is THE Green Witch aka the Earthmother aka Lilith's 1st daughter aka the primordeal Witch. 🤔While the show hasn't explicitly confirmed Rio Vidal (River of Life) as the Earthmother or Lilith's 1st daughter, it's an interesting possibility to consider. In Marvel lore, Gaea is often referred to as the Earthmother, and Lilith is known as the Mother of All Demons. 🕵♂Connecting these characters could add a fascinating layer to the story. If Rio were indeed the primordial witch, it would explain her immense power and influence. 11:27 😮Abusive? If you are a divination witch (or has a friend who is) and get a premonition that somewhere in the future of 1693 in Salem, Massachusetts the child you're currently expecting is put on trial by her own coven, including yourself, Evanora Harkness, for practicing dark magic & stealing knowledge beyond her age and station. During the trial, your daughter is tied to a post, and the coven attempts to execute her by channeling their magic against her. However, her unique dark ability allows her to absorb their power, which ultimately leads to the death of yourself and the other witches in the coven. 🤯Would you then still let your child come to terms or abort it immediately? 13:35 🕵♂Because Lilia is a has-been witch her flashforwards were broken in 2 thus arrived incomplete at different times, it perfectly explains why she couldn’t effectively warn Alice. The fragmented messages, *“Alice don’t!”* and *“Save Agatha!”* arriving at different times, would have made it difficult for Alice to understand the full context and take the necessary actions to save herself and Agatha. 👍This adds a layer of complexity to Lilia’s character and her abilities as a witch. It’s always fascinating to explore these intricate details and how they impact the storyline. 14:13 Unfortunately as long as Agatha uses her dark magic she can't be good. A witch who uses dark magic simply should not be suffered. The analogy of the scorpion (Agatha) and the frog (Alice) is often used to illustrate the idea that some behaviors are inherent and unchangeable. Comparing this to the idea of a “good Nazi” highlights the contradiction in trying to reconcile fundamentally harmful actions with goodness. 👨⚖Similarly, a witch who uses dark magic & causes harm cannot be considered good. It’s important to recognize and address harmful behaviors to prevent further damage. 15:38 I strongly disagree. if Agatha really cared about not wanting to hurt/kill the innocent she would've tried to get rid of her Darkhold gift, to absorb a witch's magic & her life force, a long time ago. The fact that she hasn't tells us that she prioritizes power over morality. 🤨Her willingness to use dark magic & manipulate others shows her true nature; she's pure evil, because she'll do anything to increase her power........ .......including sacrificing an innocent child to gain the Darkhold. 👨⚖While she may show moments of vulnerability or emotion, her overarching actions suggest that her pursuit of power often overshadows any potential for redemption. 16:05 Rio & Agatha were clearly madly in 💖until Agatha sacrificed Nick to get the Darkhold. I guess 💖can indeed blind people to the faults and wrongdoings of those they care about. In the case of Rio & Agatha, their love was strong, but Agatha’s ambition and willingness to sacrifice Nick for the Darkhold crossed a line that Rio couldn’t forgive. 😢It’s a tragic situation where 💖& trust are shattered by betrayal and the pursuit of power. This dynamic adds depth to their characters and makes their story even more compelling. 18:25 ☠If Rio’s need to absorb the corpses of witches to maintain her youth is true, it would add a sinister layer to her character. This would make her actions and motivations more complex and morally ambiguous. The idea of her being a carrioneater, disposing of waste rather than actively murdering witches, adds an interesting nuance to her character. Such a storyline would definitely create intriguing conflicts and dynamics between characters, making the narrative even richer and more engaging. 19:39 😏LoL in *WV* "Pietro Maximoff" resembles Fox's X-men Pietro and he too had superspeed as his superpower, so all the evidence points that it could only be Wanda's twin brother...... ......except the final episode of *WV* revealed that he wasn't Wanda's twin brother but the actor Ralph Boner brainwashed by Agatha who she also gave superspeed through her witchcraft. This twist highlighted Agatha’s manipulative abilities and added depth to the storyline. Just because Teen resembles Billy from the comics and has the same powerset is it confirmed that he is Wanda's son. Besides, Agatha could've actually named Teen's mother so there could be no doubt, yet she never did. For all we know Agatha is pulling the exact same trick she played on Wanda in *WV* with her own coven, but instead of "Pietro Maximoff" as a ruse she now uses "Billy Maximoff." 😁Never change a winning tactic, right? 20:41 🧠Placing a sigil on himself would only pique Agatha's interest. The best way to avoid conflict is to not engage directly, especially when dealing with someone as powerful as Agatha. By not attacking her with his witchcraft, he could have potentially avoided her absorbing his powers.
About the Abuse thing, we don’t know much about Agatha’s past. Her mother clearly believes her child was evil from birth, and that is such a harmful notion. It seems underneath it all Agatha does want to be a good person but is also so guarded that she would rather put on the persona of someone whose pure evil than be someone who obviously is hurt and made some terrible decisions she can’t come back from.
@@prismspheres "Her mother clearly believes her child was evil from birth, and that is such a harmful notion." 🖐It is only harmful when the mother is human. In the context of witches & their abilities, it’s possible that Agatha’s mother had a premonition or some form of insight into Agatha’s future actions. This could indeed make her belief more of a fact rather than just a harmful notion. 👍The idea of premonitions & supernatural insights adds an interesting layer to the story, making the dynamics between characters even more complex. "It seems underneath it all Agatha does want to be a good person but is also so guarded that she would rather put on the persona of someone whose pure evil than be someone who obviously is hurt and made some terrible decisions she can’t come back from." 🕵♂My interpretation of Agatha is that she's a dark empath. A dark empath is someone who possesses a high level of cognitive empathy, which means they can understand and recognize other people's emotions & perspectives. *However, unlike a typical empath who uses this understanding to support and connect with others, a dark empath uses this ability for manipulation & personal gain.* Here are some key traits of a dark empath: - *Cognitive empathy* : They can understand what others are feeling without necessarily sharing those emotions. - *Manipulative behavior* : They use their understanding of others' emotions to manipulate and control situations to their advantage. - *Emotional distance* : They maintain a level of detachment, which allows them to use their empathy in a calculated way. - *Charm and deceit* : They often appear charming and understanding on the surface but have underlying self-serving motives. ☠ *This combination of empathy & manipulative tendencies makes dark empaths particularly complex and potentially harmful in their interactions with others.* Furthermore the dark empath in a witch is a harmfull combo because of the significance of the #3: A *dark empath* shares some traits with narcissists, Machiavellians, and psychopaths, but there are key differences: - *Narcissism* : Dark empaths, like narcissists, may have a sense of grandiosity and entitlement. However, dark empaths possess a genuine ability to understand others' emotions, which narcissists typically lack. - *Machiavellianism* : Both dark empaths and Machiavellians engage in manipulation and deceit. The difference is that dark empaths use their empathy to manipulate others more effectively. - *Psychopathy* : Dark empaths and psychopaths can both exhibit callousness and a lack of remorse. However, dark empaths have higher levels of empathy, allowing them to understand and exploit others' emotions. ⚠In summary, while dark empaths share some traits with these personality types, their ability to understand and manipulate emotions sets them apart.
@@TrickyD I honestly don’t think we have enough information to conclude whether or not Agatha’s mother was abusive, considering we don’t know if she or someone else had a premonition or not. The dark empath stuff is interesting though, you have such interesting facts 🩷🩷
@@prismspheres "I honestly don’t think we have enough information to conclude whether or not Agatha’s mother was abusive" 🖐The bond between a mother and her unborn child is often described as profound and unique. In the context of witches, this connection could be even more intense and mystical. A witch mother might have a deeper, almost supernatural bond with her witch baby, potentially sensing their future abilities and destinies. 🕵♂This could explain why Agatha’s mother might have had strong feelings or premonitions about her daughter’s future. It adds another layer of complexity to their relationship and Agatha’s character.
i think they merged stories of agatha harkness with selene galio the external mutant witch vampire. Selene sucked the life out of her mother during birth, was evil since birth, is as old as agatha or older, and sucks the life out of people to fuel her magic and they look like a dried husk or turn to dust in a similar way.

I reckon all the coven will die and instead of asking for her powers back she asks for her coven back and that is redemption story and by being selfless she gets her powers back as a reward and that why she says I want what I ask for
For a connection between Billy and Rio, I suspect it is that he has died. Presumably the things that happened to hin at 13 could have been a literal death and rebirth. The board game also said 3 and up, which I think is usually 8 and up, so may be relevant.
On that too, also possible that this trial wasn't Agatha, it was Billy's trial, he was after all the most active talking about the rules, and at the end. Also Billy possibly having more of a connection to an 80s horror aesthetic as a modern goth teen likely into those movies, over the more ancient Agatha. Falling into the mud might actually prelude Agatha's actual trial.
@@DuskyPredator "On that too, also possible that this trial wasn't Agatha, it was Billy's trial," 🤔How can it be Teen's trial when he was never a part of the coven?
I think the conversation with Agathas mother it was a mix of both her power and queerness. The way Rio reacts when Agathas mother says you were born evil, is the same look Aubrey used in Happiest Season when Harper said Abby wasnt her girlfriend and that her sister was lying. The over protecting her when the ghost arrives telling Jen "well her mother cant have her" after suggesting they slit her throat, shows that Rio knows just how much Agatha is hurting from her mother hating her. Rio gave a lot of protective girlfriend vibes this episode.
@Nix_DarkAngel "I think the conversation with Agathas mother it was a mix of both her power and queerness." 🤔I don't see how queerness would be a problem for 17th century witches, where in all likelyhood queerness is the norm instead of the exception? While historical records don’t provide clear evidence of queerness being the norm among witches, modern interpretations often associate witchcraft with otherness and non-conformity, which can include queerness. This contemporary view has indeed led to a richer and more inclusive understanding of witchcraft and its practitioners. "The over protecting her when the ghost arrives telling Jen "well her mother cant have her" after suggesting they slit her throat, shows that Rio knows just how much Agatha is hurting from her mother hating her" 🖐It's only self-evident that Agatha's use of dark magic to kill her own coven would undoubtedly create deep resentment & hatred from other witches, including her own mother.
My theory is that when the twins were originally created Mephisto used Nicolas Scratches soul but Wanda had twins so the soul was split between Tommy and Billy. Per comics bec of Wandas Choas magic affecting anything it touches, the contract that mephisto had with Nicolas was broken So when the Hex went down and Rio collected she couldn't collect and they were instead reincarnated to the closest dying bodies. Tommy could be in a coma and Billy is on then road to heal him and bring him back. That being said, I would prefer Tommy and Billy be in the referred car accident and still be brothers. Having being reincarnated to two different families would be a step too far for general audiences.
I didnt have another platform to ask this on but since this is lesbian friendly ill ask….when Agatha’s mom said she was born evil…could that have been a reference to her sexuality and not the magic. Back in the Salem times if they caught agatha and rio together they could say that they are evil. We saw a glimpse of that in the fear street trilogy. What do yall think? Am i reaching?
@Scorpiosgraphx "Back in the Salem times if they caught agatha and rio together they could say that they are evil." 🤔Christianity in midieval times can be compared to 'modern' Islam where homosexuality is forbidden. During the Salem witch trials and similar periods, any behavior that deviated from the norm could be grounds for suspicion and accusations of witchcraft. This included not only homosexuality but also other behaviors that were seen as non-conforming. 😶Comparing historical Christianity to modern Islam in terms of views on homosexuality highlights that many religions have had, and some still have, strict views on this topic. It’s important to recognize that these views can vary widely within each religion and over time.
25:33 Nope, they're using Wiccan colors. Yellow is the color of air. Blue is water, green is earth, red is fire, and purple is spirit. White wouldn't be an elemental color because white and black represent the Goddess and God, respectively.
Ur probably wrong about the two airbags. Those were for mr and Mrs Kaplan and the person in the back seat died and billy was reincarnated into billy Kaplans body
@cliffordew "I don't understand how Rio is death." 🤓My theory is that Rio Vidal (River of Life) is the amalgamation of Lilith, the mother of Demons and Gaea aka the Earthmother, which adds a rich, mythological layer to her character. The notion that she needs to absorb the corpses of witches to maintain her youth introduces a morally ambiguous and sinister aspect to her motivations. It certainly makes her actions more complex and intriguing. 🕵♂The concept of her being a carrioneater, disposing of waste rather than actively murdering witches, adds an interesting nuance to her character. It suggests that her actions might be driven by a need for survival rather than pure malice.
I don’t know if I agree with you about the car crash. I took it as two people in the car transporting a body (so in total, three) and that both of Billy’s parents were killed or Billy had a near death experience where Billy Maximoff was able to inhabit his body. However, I think the idea of multiple souls would actually be really cool, with BM battling memories of BK vs of him and Tommy/Wanda/Vision. I’m so interested to see his backstory on Weds! I think Lillia and Jen will be spat out in West or Eastview. Also, Lillia’s line about not liking this the first time is because she heard the screaming in Ep 1 in her shop.
I'm sorry but when Agatha was Exorcisting all over the cabin and Rio so casually asked, "Are you okay, sweetheart?" I almost fell off my chair laughing. The deadpan delivery by Aubrey Plaza was ✨chef's kiss✨.
Real though, cast is phenomenal!
I know this isn’t about me, but I’ve never felt more seen by a comment before lol

😏LoL In the MCU, Billy Maximoff disappeared when Wanda’s hex was lifted.

"I don't understand why people keeping saying this. We don't have the context to deduce if Evanora is in the right or not ."
🖐Fact is that Agatha did kill her coven, had used the Darkhold thus practiced the darkest of magic and has committed matricide.

🕵♂All the witches knew Sharon was only in the coven because she had a green thumb and wasn't a green witch.
So Sharon was a civilian Agatha tricked into the coven while Alice knew full well what she was getting into when she joined the coven.
I sort of agree? I think we are being tri ked into thinking it's Agathas trial because it's Teens. Agatha plays the lead role because she has been Teens mother figure on the road thus far and Teens trauma is based around his actual mother

i've seen someone put together lilia's visions to say 'alice don't' 'try to save agatha' and also mentioning her first vision in her apartment may have been about the demonic possession thing, which is why she said 'i hated this the first time'
When Kathryn Hahn did that flip towards the end of the episode 🔥🔥💯
I'm pretty sure Lilia's comment about not liking it the first time was a reference to her freak-out in Ep2 when she started screaming as she was experiencing the future. Her body language is even the same with her hands on either side of her head.
You could be right! I thought that it might have been connected to episode four where the record was playing backwards at first but Teen's comment about Lilia being "weird" made me think there's something more to it.
Yep. She saw Alice's death. Hence her disjointed shouts out of order .

One of my main complaints so far is how dark it was on the road up until when they enter this trial. I could barely make out any details. And I think we could be seeing the shot of Jen coming out from ground near the city sign that we saw in the previews.
Agreed. I turned my light all the way up and thought well that didn’t help. 😑
Thanks for explaining about Eastview! I missed that!
Your analysis is so complete and your thoughts regarding #agatario are so relatable! ❤
I’m assuming Tommy will be part of VisionQuest to complete the trilogy and character stories going into main other MCU projects that include Wiccan & Speed)
All why ppl who think the same actors who played the twins should have continued, and comment Joe looks different, don’t make any sense. Billy (and Tommy) are literally in completely different bodies now / ongoing.
It's interesting how much of this you got right. Like even when you were wrong, you were right! Kudos!!
I was waiting for you!!!! ❤😂
Agatha's relationship with her mother reminded me of Villanelle's relationship with hers.
The five witch colors for the purpose of a coven walking the road:
- Blue - Water - Full Moon - Potion Witch - Jennifer
- Red - Fire - Waxing Moon - Protection Witch - Alice
- Purple - Spirit - Blood Moon - Spirit Witch - Agatha
- Yellow - Air - New Moon - Divination Witch - Lilia
- Green - Earth - Waning Moon - Green Witch - Rio
One thing you didn't mention, but is an interesting quirk of the episode is the lack of aspect ratio shift on going into the trial itself, in marked contrast to the two previous trials. Any thoughts on that?
It could be a hint that something was different about this trial compared to the previous ones (which would align with the missing bracelets and Lilia's comment about "the first time")? It could link back (or be an Easter egg) to WandaVision where (to my memory) they also played around with the aspect ratio to create clues about the narrative as well. I hope we get some answers next episode!

8:53 I also didn’t pick up the fact that Agatha’s broach is her bracelet.
I think they'll pop back out to Westview. There was a preview where Jen is coming ou the ground on the Westview side.
Very in depth and insightful. Can't wait to see what's around the next plot twist.

"I’ve said this somewhere else but I think that Agatha was latent to exhibit powers and her mom treated her bad for it and when they manifested it was the purple absorbing power which was new and why her mom said she was born evil."
🖐Agatha Harkness’s abilities are rooted in witchcraft, and her purple absorbing power could very well be a manifestation of her magical prowess or a dark gift acquired from the Darkhold. This distinction between witches and mutants is important, as it highlights the different sources of their powers.
About the length... the credits are longer than the episode and I want Alice back
This one is definitely tinfoil-hat worthy, but hear me out- Agatha's mom hating her from the start makes me wonder who her father is, and if it could be Mephisto.
Oh, I like this.
@witchofwhatif
"After all, there are plenty of witch-trial tales of witches communing with the devil in various ways"
🙄You are aware that this is Christian Church propaganda, right?
@@marielalara1202i dont think the child is rios because she says „hes not your boy“ and not „our boy“, why would she say that if he was her son, too?
@@luisaal welp, that's just my theory. We'll see what happens. Either way I'm loving it.
Another meaning for the Wiccan colored bracelets could be that he was manipulating the trial…
That's such a cool theory.
Is it possible they are still in the trial?
4:40 : Oh dear, the baby bear theory is so cute buuuut, my girl, you are reaching. It's adorable. But the chances this connection exists are as high as my chances of marrying Aubrey in the next 6 months.

But already I can admit that by the end of the video, when you explained Rio's look to Agatha, you had me reinterpreting the scene.
@@kokiburiwallas1261
"That's why she hide all those years under the Darkhold."
☠The Darkhold is notorious for its corrupting influence.
@@kokiburiwallas1261
"I trust she can't control her ability to but the fact that she looks delighted to absorb Alice's powers at some point is undeniable."
😮You trust someone who easily manipulates people into doing her bidding and simply discards them when used without even using her witchcraft?
Lilia said that because she saw Alice's death earlier in the season when she was in her kitchen with Billy and Agatha
I love being a swiftie and a marvel fan
Sweetheart you are hilarious! haha
Jac should write all the MCU witchy Characters, hell, she should write ALL THE female characters
I have been loving this show but yeah the episodes are SO SHORT. I really have no idea why, seems like they could have spaced them out to 40 mins and maybe not have a 2 episode finale which is also weird.

"I have been loving this show but yeah the episodes are SO SHORT."
😎It’s often better to have a shorter show with high-quality content than a longer one filled with unnecessary filler scenes.

There is also a scoreboard shot (blue scoreboard) in the credits showing an Eastview/Westview game with the team name "Blue Devils"
It's making me feel a bit crazy."
🕵♂The difference is that Wanda's grief in *WV* stemmed from the loss of her true 💖 Vision, which led her to create the hex around Westview.
@kpearce7961
"Ok. So. I think Rio was either wrong or lying when she told us it was Agatha's trial. It seems pretty obviously Wiccans."
😏If it was Teen's triall why:
1) does the color purple only correspond to a spirit trial?
I really hope now that the Sigil is useless, Wiccan will introduce himself as Billy Kaplan
Convinced 2:16! It always comes back to J.Beals, ALWAYS.
4:14
Or Teen's mum is Rio.
11:27
😮Abusive?
13:35
🕵♂Because Lilia is a has-been witch her flashforwards were broken in 2 thus arrived incomplete at different times, it perfectly explains why she couldn’t effectively warn Alice.
14:13
Unfortunately as long as Agatha uses her dark magic she can't be good.
15:38
I strongly disagree.
if Agatha really cared about not wanting to hurt/kill the innocent she would've tried to get rid of her Darkhold gift, to absorb a witch's magic & her life force, a long time ago.
16:05
Rio & Agatha were clearly madly in 💖until Agatha sacrificed Nick to get the Darkhold.
18:25
☠If Rio’s need to absorb the corpses of witches to maintain her youth is true, it would add a sinister layer to her character.
19:39
😏LoL in *WV* "Pietro Maximoff" resembles Fox's X-men Pietro and he too had superspeed as his superpower, so all the evidence points that it could only be Wanda's twin brother......
......except the final episode of *WV* revealed that he wasn't Wanda's twin brother but the actor Ralph Boner brainwashed by Agatha who she also gave superspeed through her witchcraft.
For all we know Agatha is pulling the exact same trick she played on Wanda in *WV* with her own coven, but instead of "Pietro Maximoff" as a ruse she now uses "Billy Maximoff."
😁Never change a winning tactic, right?
20:41
🧠Placing a sigil on himself would only pique Agatha's interest.
@@prismspheres
"Her mother clearly believes her child was evil from birth, and that is such a harmful notion."
🖐It is only harmful when the mother is human.
"It seems underneath it all Agatha does want to be a good person but is also so guarded that she would rather put on the persona of someone whose pure evil than be someone who obviously is hurt and made some terrible decisions she can’t come back from."
🕵♂My interpretation of Agatha is that she's a dark empath.
A dark empath is someone who possesses a high level of cognitive empathy, which means they can understand and recognize other people's emotions & perspectives. *However, unlike a typical empath who uses this understanding to support and connect with others, a dark empath uses this ability for manipulation & personal gain.*
Here are some key traits of a dark empath:
- *Cognitive empathy* : They can understand what others are feeling without necessarily sharing those emotions.
☠ *This combination of empathy & manipulative tendencies makes dark empaths particularly complex and potentially harmful in their interactions with others.*
Furthermore the dark empath in a witch is a harmfull combo because of the significance of the #3:
A *dark empath* shares some traits with narcissists, Machiavellians, and psychopaths, but there are key differences:
- *Narcissism* : Dark empaths, like narcissists, may have a sense of grandiosity and entitlement.

"I honestly don’t think we have enough information to conclude whether or not Agatha’s mother was abusive"
🖐The bond between a mother and her unborn child is often described as profound and unique.

I think Mefisto is going to be Nicholas Scratch in the MCU.

🤔How can it be Teen's trial when he was never a part of the coven?
I think the conversation with Agathas mother it was a mix of both her power and queerness. The way Rio reacts when Agathas mother says you were born evil, is the same look Aubrey used in Happiest Season when Harper said Abby wasnt her girlfriend and that her sister was lying. The over protecting her when the ghost arrives telling Jen "well her mother cant have her" after suggesting they slit her throat, shows that Rio knows just how much Agatha is hurting from her mother hating her. Rio gave a lot of protective girlfriend vibes this episode.
@Nix_DarkAngel
"I think the conversation with Agathas mother it was a mix of both her power and queerness."
🤔I don't see how queerness would be a problem for 17th century witches, where in all likelyhood queerness is the norm instead of the exception?
While historical records don’t provide clear evidence of queerness being the norm among witches, modern interpretations often associate witchcraft with otherness and non-conformity, which can include queerness. This contemporary view has indeed led to a richer and more inclusive understanding of witchcraft and its practitioners.
"The over protecting her when the ghost arrives telling Jen "well her mother cant have her" after suggesting they slit her throat, shows that Rio knows just how much Agatha is hurting from her mother hating her"
🖐It's only self-evident that Agatha's use of dark magic to kill her own coven would undoubtedly create deep resentment & hatred from other witches, including her own mother.
💜
Wat if Nicolas soul is in Billy’s boyfriends body and he sent billy to get Agatha

I didnt have another platform to ask this on but since this is lesbian friendly ill ask….when Agatha’s mom said she was born evil…could that have been a reference to her sexuality and not the magic. "Back in the Salem times if they caught agatha and rio together they could say that they are evil."
🤔Christianity in midieval times can be compared to 'modern' Islam where homosexuality is forbidden.

🤓My theory is that Rio Vidal (River of Life) is the amalgamation of Lilith, the mother of Demons and Gaea aka the Earthmother, which adds a rich, mythological layer to her character.
