The majority of factories in Europe are clean like this. They take great pride in their work, and it shows. Something that the people of the U.S. have seem to have forgotten about. It's actually quite sad.

And what so dirty should be there? It is only assembly factory. Every dirty part is built in different building or different supplier. They do only the assembling. Clean job.
So many suppliers are involved in this final part of assembling (turbo, cables, sparcles, metal pieces...) and most of them do really dirty jobs. And all of them are annoyed with stupid rules of IATF. And all applause you made is this final factory.

With regards to the M96 engine, another issue that can cause cracks in the head is based in the coolant water pump. As the water pump ages, pieces of the internal plastic impeller can break off and these plastic bits will circulate within the cooling system. If these plastic pieces become lodged in the many small coolant passages within the head they could partially to fully obstruct the flow of coolant at that location. The combination of debris and loss of coolant flow can create localized hot spots in the head but can yield the same result, cracks in the head.

I used to work for GMAD (General Motors Assembly Division) in 1978. I read that a bunch of Scientists found that factory workers listening to music performed better, could work longer hours and were generally much happier than factory workers that had no music. Of course they could not pick their type of music, but they listened because that's what was playing. I find it difficult to believe that none of these factories pipe music through the PA system. It's probably quiet because there are cameras and people watching, I'd guess after everybody is gone the music is turned back on.

2:24 So you spent millions on a robot, just to install valve covers? While everything else is done by hand?

It’s more efficient to automate a process that takes more time if done manually or is not cumbersome (but that depends on the philosophy.
Take for instance the spark plugs. It’s better if a human can tighten it as it is more difficult to automate that.
They made it easier for the artisan since the tool has a plastic guide. Saves 2-4 seconds per spark plug. Save 10 seconds for a 6 cylinder. Save a minute every six engines (you get the idea)
The piston guide is both, as the actual installation requires finesse from a human, but a human placing the piston in the guide takes more time.
Sorry if I’m geeking out. Some manufacturers want it automated, some prefer a 1-man builder per engine, and some prefer an assembly line.
