- I'm back with another review today and I'm at a very popular UK chain restaurant known as Hickory's Smokehouse which is famous for it's meats! I haven't visited a Smokehouse on the channel as of yet so this one I'm looking forward to!

(606) American here. Yep, good barbecue is a real thing of beauty. Those pit beans were really loaded up with pulled pork. Pork ribs have a nasty habit of drying out; you have to get the baby back ones, I think. So glad you liked it. Thanks for the upload, Gary!!!

Hickory's is very much chain BBQ. It's perfectly edible, but not what you'd get at a speciality BBQ place in the US.

I have to say I've just finished 7 months of chemotherapy and other cancer treatments and have found Garys channel so therapeutic and positive. Really enjoyed this review and im looking forward to trying Hickorys when my appetite returns ☺️

Gary, dear boy, I knew a medical practitioner who went there. He decided to have a cocktail, so ordered a daiquiri. The bartender made sure it also tasted of hickory and, when he handed it to my friend, said "Here's a hickory daiquri doc'.

The very best part for me when Gary had just gotten the food. He was smiling happily & then held up the sausage on a fork and it's curve, placed just below his smile, equaled an ear-to-ear smile. Delightful image. Thanks.

0500 in the morning, heading to work soon. It’s -5, roads are icy, it’s dark, wallabies, possums, sheep, cows on road and 100km to work. Sounds depressing but… “let’s give it a go” lol… your reviews always brighten the morning coffee. Thanks mate.

That was my local for 30 years. It was a great pub in its day. Hickory's allowed us locals to take a look at the alterations they were making. Always busy and very popular. Loved the review Gary. I live 5 mins walk from Hickory's and you and the cameraman would have been most welcome to pop in to my home for a coffee. Love the channel and I love the way you always look for positives. Not biased just an honest food criric. Had to smile when i saw where you were.Thanks for the visit.

I work in a newly opened HIckorys' branch and as someone who has worked in chains before I was flabbergasted at the quality because it really is much better than the ones I previously worked in. I also worked in a harvester and it was total rubbish especially compared to hickory's.

Another place I knew nothing about. Looks very authentic. OMG be still my heart, the fabulous onion rings. The crunch on them was magnificent. Plenty of good, definitely for two people. You are taking us to wonderful places Gary. I enjoyed watching.

Huge bonus we can take the pooch and sit outside in one of their “cabins”.. They even brought her a couple of bits of brisket ends, which she loved👍🏻👍🏻

Went to Hickory’s for the first time on Saturday, and I whole heartedly agree! 👍
Full rack of ribs (in Bourbon sauce) 10/10, juicy and tasty, not dry at all
Full sized brisket 10/10, just not enough of it
I gave the pulled pork with beans an 8, wife gave it a 10
Coleslaw 8/10, onions/pickles 10/10
Other highlights; hot sweet popcorn in a mini paper bag as you are shown to your seat, table tennis tables outside, lovely gardens/seating, blankets provided for when the sun goes down, a mini 12 seater cinema looping animated films to keep the youngsters amused in between courses, their own brand of pale ale, tater tots as a side, toasted marshmallows as a pudding are a fire hazard, but great fun (the fire bowl get EXTREMELY hot and a bit smoky as it burns out) 🥵
Yes, it is a bit pricey, but will be heading back again soon!
And sorry to make you all jealous, but we have 5 Hickory’s within driving distance! 🙄

What a beautiful setting, Gary. I'm a vegetarian but I love to watch your reviews and check out what vegie options they have. Much more choice in Britain than here in Australia. I've just had breakfast and I could just eat those onion rings! I love to see all the different places in Britain, too. I hope you get your wish and a Hickory's opens in the south for you.

We got to Hickories around every 3 months (treat) and we have never had a bad experience. They even cater for the dogs and give them some brisket.

Gary, next time you fancy southern American/BBQ and you’re south of London, I'd recommend 'Smith & Western'. A local chain founded in Horsham, Sussex but have spread about to Chichester and Tunbridge. Can be a bit pricey but the food was good, restaurants have a great atmosphere (highly themed and have cowboy movie memorabilia) and staff excellent when we went.

Another great episode as always. As someone who has loved bbq for a big part of my life I gotta say that the food looked so darn good. If you ever make it to the US may I recommend visiting Texas, I have been there 7 times and San Antonio to me has the best bbq, Waco comes in at a close second. Cheers 🙂

Well, Gary, I felt right at home at Hickory's! I almost want to say, "Welcome to Texas, ya'll"! The setting, the newspaper menu, the food, the portion sizes very familiar. Someone must have lived in the US for a while. Some items definitely Texan, others a bit more Southern. Sweet cornbread a bit of the South. The sausage, BbQ ends are Texan. Cobb salad is a main dish and pretty filling. The onion rings are usually shared. The big garden with plenty of space usually gets filled up with kids on the weekends, families dine together. Not unusual to have live music, everyone dances! Very happy review😊.

Glad you enjoyed this Gary. A Hickory's has just opened up in Adel, Leeds near me and my friend and I ate from the brunch menu around 11am, which was delicious. Loved the free top ups of coffee too but was bouncing off the ceiling I had so much caffeine 😂. Friendly, wonderful atmosphere and will def go again. 103k subs and counting... there's no stopping you now! 🎉

The service charge is a disgusting hoodwink .The staff are paid very low 7 something and the service charge makes up their money to what it should be .It's yet another crafty way chains are operating so on this reason alone will not be going there again this practice has to be stopped becoming more common .It's already not cheap for what it is and staff have already been coached on answering the truth about the sc

Thats not true at Hickories.
Maybe for other food chains yes but they are paid above minimum wage and all the tips are paid evenly between the staff.
That would be illegal & any staff affected should contact the citizens advice bureau.
Sorry but you are talking rubbish as its illegal in the UK for an adult to be paid less than £11.44 per hour as a basic wage. Oh and before you say it THE MINIMUM WAGE CANT BE MADE UP USING ANY FORM OF TIP OR SERVICE CHARGE EITHER as they are not guaranteed.

What a cool review! Beautiful location. The choice for the music near the start was spot on.The scenery around there reminded me of my time in Atlanta GA a little. I remember having some delicious cornbread in the US. Your meal looked full of flavour & very hearty, but a little bit dry in parts, as you said. I thought the salad looked especially appetising. Fantastic review Gary... I enjoyed it alot. 💙
