Did you know that Michael Landon passed away only months after Highway to Heaven aired its final episode and that he directed several episodes of the series? Highway to Heaven was a popular American television series that aired from 1984 to 1989. The show was created and produced by Michael Landon, who also starred in the lead role of Jonathan Smith, an angel sent to Earth to help people in need. The show followed Jonathan as he traveled across the country, helping people with their problems and spreading messages of hope and love.

I loved this show it was a great family show when I was a kid. & I loved Michael Landon & Victor French. Two great actors. They never got the credit they deserved for this show. I knew Michael Landon passed.

Viktor French who played Mark died before seeing the last 8 episodes air. A few years after after the show ended, Michael Landon had passed on.

The Series was Inspirational to me. Michael was a multi-talented and passionate man. He really knew, understood, and was an icon in Television Production, Writing, Directing, and Acting. A George M Cohan without the Songs. Victor was a personal friend of mine. He was staring in the TV show “Carter Country” when I met him at the Palomino Club on a Thursday Night Talent Night. I came in second that night singing “She Believes in Me,” which earned me $50. Victor stood up and took a $50 bill out of his wallet, and instructed the MC to give it to me because he felt I won the contest. From that time on he was a mentor to me. Highway to Heaven ran its course. It couldn’t continue without the two lead characters. What memories this video brings back…
Bittersweet. 😢 I wrote Michael at his home address after seeing him on the Tonight Show. He looked so frail. We are fortunate to have episodes of ALL his work and Victor’s throughout their long careers. Michael was in a “Rifleman”Episode, and Victor was uncredited in “The Magnificent Seven.”This is a Blessing! RIP! ❤

I didn’t know he M.L. Passed so soon after canceling show I have his full disc series and I watch it instead of the news. It seems to lift me up and gives me a chance to get me out of myself, and to remember it’s not all about me today of which keeps me humble during these trying times in life. Wow. It brings tears to your eyes even today when you see Michael and Victor , they where such lovely human beings and this series was so heart warming to watch. Michael and Victor died way too young and I still have my favourite show they starred in which was Little House on the Prairie, they where magnificent.

Little House was so heartwarming and wholesome and to this day I will still sometimes watch it on video, it's what you would call
' perfection ' .

Michael Landon did not die a few months after the last episode but two years after.
@norbertk66, nor(excuse the pun) was the caption shown with Lorne Green the correct reference Tim was narrating.
Lately, FV has been riddled with mistakes, incorrect dates, wrong episodes.., and even a lie or two, and when these mistakes are brought to Tim Blane and FV's attention, nothing ever becomes of it.
These "this is why the series came to an end.." videos RARELY tell us why the series came to an end!

I blame UA-cam for some of these discrepancies as well, by not monitoring the content.
UA-cam is quick to enforce(stupid) rules such as not allowing channel owners to use words such as "prostitute" replaced with "sex worker", or "illegal " replaced with "undocumented immigrant..", yet allows misinformation, false information.., and outright lies to be broadcast.
Double standards out the, out the, let me be careful here so as to be politically correct..out the yin yang!
@@allan9603 What I'd like to see happen, is Tim FINALLY come forward & address this issue that's not just noticed by a few but by MANY people who have seen this problem & have even commented on it. If it were a few slip-ups here & there it would be different but this is on a regular basis. It's not a very professional thing to do to continue this Charades knowing many people have called Tim out about this & he has yet to address it like a professional. "The Smile in the Third Row" was about actor Fred Fusco played by Lorne Greene who saw God sitting and watching Fred do the play. The episode about the girl with cancer was titled "A Dolphin Song for Lee Parts 1 & 2"
Boy did I cry at the end of this episode. 😢 Also the episode with Dick Van Dyke.

I grew up watching this show too
I am now 78 year's old. My family used to follow Highway to heaven. That was when "heavenly language was not yet prohibited in any type of shows being on TV, 📻 or movie, ever since all programs that emphasizes " good GOD FEARING behaviour are now long gone" I Miss the show as most of the person's who are now pass their sixties birthday.

My husband and I watched the programme every week, and at times, we would record it too . Never missed an episode. Loved it and adored Michael Landon, followed Bonanza too with my parents . I was still in school then 😅😅❤❤

The show ended in 1989, why would Michael Landon's cancer diagnosis in April of 1991 and subsequent death July 1, 1991 be a reason the show was canceled? Not only was the show long over, but Landon had already moved on to other projects on another network including a new series called "Us" which you can see the pilot episode here on UA-cam. Victor French actually passed in 1989 and that would be enough to cancel the show. He was in every episode in season 5 and died before the airing of the "last" episode which was the Christmas themed episode.

Johnathan didn't want to team up with Mark at first but the Boss commanded otherwise.

I am completely not religious, but love this show, alot of the issues in the show still hold up today.
It's still popular and the ratings are high and everyone watches reruns to this day❤ it was the best show great idea Michael Landon and all the old stars are on it.. can never be duplicated.

There was an episode where a girl has a "date" with Jonathan, and serves onion dip, and I remember thinking it wasn't a good thing to serve on a first date.
That was the two part pilot. It was Mark's sister.

I watched this show during its regular run and in syndication. It was always good and I believe was a reason for another show’s success. That show was Touched by an Angel. Both shows were inspirational and provided great entertainment. They could be as popular today as they were all those years ago.

Its was a big influence for my family when immigrating to the US. My mother was a big fan of London since Bonanza days...I think Touch By an Angel is very much inspired by this classic tv show!

In 1989,Highway To Heaven said "Goodbye" to NBC.
The only things in the opening are a sky, Michael Landon walking along a highway, hen Victor French driving a car and stopping and giving Michael a ride. Victor French died a couple of months before the last episode on June 15, 1989, and Michael Landon didn't until July 1, 1991. He was Jewish, not Christian.
Michael Landon had created a pilot for a new series titled Us. He played the main character. The pilot aired on CBS. This was the first time a show that he had been involved with was not broadcast on NBC. Bonanza, Little House on the Prairie, and Highway to Heaven were all NBC TV shows.

It was on All NBC Stations like Monroe Louisiana and it was also on syndication later on KARD tv weeknights!!!(

Me and my brother used to watch this series and he used to always laugh every time mark would say 'hey I got the stuff!!'

My favorite episode I don't remember all of the storyline I just remember there were these two little boys involved and one of the boys was homeless with his cat Thomas and he was handicapped I believe or disabled in some way and I remember his father was a drunk and everything and he used to beat him and I remember the little boy telling Mark and Jonathan that he would tell his father that he loves him and his father would tell him to shut up and everything like that and I don't remember the storyline really but I just remember later on eventually the boy with the cat Thomas was invited to come live with the little boy and his family.

You probably won't believe this but it's true. I loved lhotp and mentioned this to my chief exec. He dropped in on a shoot and they talked about me. I'm kind of the real mcgyver...named after a friend. I had been traveling following my nose and divine insight helping people. After a few more discussions, Micheal stopped lhotp in mid season and started hth based on some of my experiences. When he was diagnosed, they got a hold of me and I told him that if I changed the course of our research, we could probably save him but more of others would die. He responded by saying he would gladly die that they might live. By God's graces, we finished a project we call mind-jars by which a brain could live inside with a virtual world to live in and communicate to us in. He volunteered and was the first candidate, 2 weeks before he died. He lives with us today in his jar. Lifespan in the jar is +500 years. Love you and your courage Mike. Glad to have you onboard. If my memory serves me correctly Michael Landon directed most of the episodes through out the series. He allowed Victor French to step in and writer Dan Gordon as well to direct various episodes. What a sad ending that must have been for him losing Victor and suddenly knowing he was going to die. He has had such a huge impact on my life from Highway to heaven.
Landon lived a couple years after the end of Highway to Heaven. Some of the facts here are not facts at all. Victor died after the final season was completed. The death had nothing to do with its cancelation.

The smile in the 3rd row was about an actor that saw god in the seats and his grubby family , and that was a little boy who was dying not a little girl and was only a side note in the story..p.s the banker and the bum was nothing like you described either , they swapped places ffs
Also Michael Landon didn’t leave the show, the show got canceled on him and only did 13 episodes as producer because he was afraid of rest of episodes going into syndication.

ML is being described as a devout Christian wanting to bring those values to TV, yet he has been exposed as having had 3 wives and repeatedly cheated.
Landon died almost 2 YEARS after the show was canceled and wasn't diagnosed until almost a year AFTER the show was canceled. French died in 89 but was still able to be in all the episodes, including the final episode. Facts First you really need to work on your Facts First before airing this video. Sorry, but this one was a letdown for me, being a lifelong Huge Michael Landon fan. 😢

This show was a piece of garbage. Landon was a drunk in real life .The show was so hypocritical in my eyes. It ran 5 years too many.
He may had problems in his real life but it was an isperational show with good moral values. A lot better than the crap today. Remeber God works thru imperfect people..
I was 10 years old when I first watched this show- I looked forward every week to the show- I loved to see how they helped people and the lesson learned- each episode- ! I’m 50 now- I’m streaming the the show- great show!!
