  • Did you know that actor Burt Lancaster was under investigation from the FBI for his alleged bisexuality, or did you think that all Hollywood leading men were the epitome of masculinity? When Burt Lancaster was growing up on the tough streets of East Harlem during the Great Depression, the future star learned a thing or two about being tough. While he did everything he could to get into trouble when his mother wasn’t looking, she did her best to instill values in the boy whenever she could, even if it meant beating him!
Young Burt didn’t aspire to be a Hollywood star, but a circus performer. During his young adulthood, Burt dropped out of school with his friends and they started performing as acrobats at the circus. Burt was taller than the average gymnast, but he still found moderate success in the profession. Sadly, an injury sustained on the job during his 20s put an end to his acrobatic career in the circus.
After having to give up his days in the circus, Burt worked for a time as a USO performer. Around this time, someone approached Burt and offered him a role on Broadway. Unsure about his future, Burt took the job. He ended up enjoying acting, and made his Hollywood debut in 1946, at the age of 33. That debut was in The Killers, and Burt was a big star by the time the 1950s rolled around.
As compared to many of his contemporaries, Burt liked to consider his own personal beliefs when choosing projects. He turned down the lead role in Ben-Hur because he didn’t like the film’s religious themes. He started his own production company so he could be in charge of his own projects, and was always outspoken about his liberal beliefs. Although Burt was married three times, he was allegedly a bisexual swinger who liked to party with such fellow Hollywood stars as Rock Hudson. Join Facts Verse as Burt Lancaster’s biographer reveals his million-dollar secret.

Burt Lancaster signed on to play a gay window dresser in the movie version of Kiss of the Spider Woman. The producers couldn't understand why he'd want to make that picture in a stellar, macho career. But they were grateful for his assistance because it allowed them to raise money. Lancaster's health declined; William Hurt was re-cast. Burt Lancaster's last role in a major motion picture was in Field of Dreams. He had to resign in 1990 due to a stroke, and he passed away four years later from a heart attack.

It is important to many people because prominent figures such as actors like Lancaster was should have an accurate depiction of their lives. This includes information about their sex lives as far as what can be documented.
Understanding that Lancaster and other well known and admired actors were bisexual helps people to have a better understanding of human sexual practices and thus enables people to escape from the constricting bonds of established social conventions in order to be TRUER to themselves and freer of government overreach.
You ask "Did he go to jail or something?" No, he did not. This is probably because he was never charged with a sex crime which is what homoerotic experiences were deemed at that time.
Knowing about famous, respected people having homoerotic experiences contributed to a loosening of the Draconian laws that allowed people to be harassed for acts they engaged in as a consenting adult. This is a good thing.

Although he always posted very high quality, initially very physically imposing, from my standpoint his truly towering performances came after FROM HERE TO ETERNITY, TRAPEZE, paving the way for ELMER GANTRY, THE TRAIN, SEVEN DAYS IN MAY, IL GATTOPARDO, GO TELL THE SPARTANS, LAWMAN, MIDNIGHT MAN and the fabulous short part in ATLANTIC CITY. He was also a man of moral values, always voicing support for minorities and their rights, and taking anti-war stands. Burt Lancaster was wonderful actor and, despite the usual human foibles, a pretty decent guy. So, I find it curious that so many people are upset when they hear that certain Hollywood actors were either bisexual or gay. So what? Imagine that you're young, incredibly beautiful, wealthy and talented. Imagine the freedom. Would it really be all that surprising that you'd test the bounds of middle class morality? If one was curious, or attracted to a person of the same sex, why wouldn't one experiment, at least once? I remember a story about Douglas Fairbanks Jr. who, apparently later in life, went to bed with another man. His reply when he was asked about this was, I was curious, not really my thing, but it was rather interesting. I also remember reading somewhere about Winston Churchill, of all people, having a one night affair with a well known British actor and singer, Ivor Novello. When asked what it was liked he replied "musical." I doubt many such men lost any sleep over it.

Bi, not bi, who cares? Out of this huge planet I think I'd find someone of the same gender that I would find attractive. [ why does it have to be one way or the other?, and don't give me that Adam and Eve shit.} I have found others I find handsome. I get approached, I don't freak out. It's a compliment. What a person does with that is up to them and not the business of others. Do unto others as you would want them to do unto you. In other words, mind your damn business. I feel that Burt Lancaster was a fine actor. And that's all that mattered to me. His sex life was just that, HIS sex life!

Well, all I know is that when, as a young teenager, I first saw Burt Lancaster in the beach scene in "From Here To Eternity" I figured for shure I must be a ghey, as I went weak in the knees and all 😏...(and I still think he ranks as one of the most beautiful men ever....and apparently him and Marlon Brando had a pretty torid affair as well!....oh, to be a fly on the wall)🤤

Strange he turned down Ben Hur on religous grounds when he ended up playing Moses.

Was Mr. Ed gay, too? How about Rin Tin Tin, Trigger and Lassie? It's so easy to say things about people who can no longer defend their reputations. I wonder what people will say about you after you make your final exit. Hmm.

there are 2 or 3 nude photos of Burt availablee on google images. These must have been taken when he was a carnival performer before he was discovered in Hollywood.

Remarkable actor ! It's a free world and Burt enjoyed it ! Nobody should judge, because ignorance is the biggest SIN !

The Swimmer was my favorite Burt Lancaster movie. It was directed by Frank Perry (Katy Perry‘a uncle), who also directed Mommy Dearest. Burt was sizzling sexy. ❤️‍🔥

Burt Lancaster was always wonderful and mesmerizing, but his portrayal of Elmer Gantry (which I saw when I was 12) really knocked me out. I've seen that movie at least a dozen times.
