I was lucky enough to see Mr. Smokey Robinson in concert this past Saturday and he was absolutely AMAZING!! 84 years old and he hasn't missed a beat... he still has the moves, he is sexy, he is funny as heck, and his voice is golden!! Cruisin' was his encore song and everyone went nuts!! I would see him again today, if I could. One of my top concerts ever ❤
I could talk about it all day but I won’t . I was born in the 80s and raised in the 90s on the westside of Detroit and grew up in the Motown neighborhood . I grew up listening to Motown music from EVERYBODY older lol. But when I got older and learned about the full history about my city I was truly amazed to understand that this city changed the world with it’s culture from the Big 3 (Ford , Chrysler and GM) fashion , art , food , and more. But what got me the most was Motown. Motown truly changed the country for better with these songs. We were a VERY SEGREGATED country back in the 50s and 60s. The music that was pouring out of Detroit was about love and having fun. Those songs were undeniable to whites so it changed their perspective on us a bit. If you seen the Temptations movie you know what I’m talking about .
I remember Smokey performing this on The Merv Griffin Show back in the day. So smooth, love it. Another equally smooth one from Smokey was " Old Fashioned Love " from the 80's, one of my fave 80's gems. So much great R&B in the 80's. Check out Lillo Thomas " I'm In Love " and Kashif " Help Yourself To My Love ", among his other gems.
Smokey is an absolute legend of soul. From hist time with the Miracles to solo works like this and "Quiet Storm" - one of the smoothest voices in the business.
