Daleks learned to travel through time before they learned to fly. Irrational species.
This was the REAL opening battle of the Time War.
I want my gritty 90s novel where these animatronics were recruited by Earth Military to be Dalek hunters. Going on suicide missions with Space Major Bowman and Abslom Daak.
Well they fight alongside the real Dracula in the war in heaven

Okay, allow me to make this an even more fun romp of an arc by using a bit of random Dalek Canon from "The Dalek Survival Guide" the Daleks in the chase are Archivists not Soldiers, all the other Daleks knew that the Chase was never going to work out and just let these Daleks make fools of themselves because it would have made a paradox if they didn't go since they had seen it. So yeah, the Chase, one part Daleks being responsible with time travel rules, another part a massive prank... now enjoy watching the Chase again knowing that far away all the Daleks are watching this story having a great old time themselves.

Not only that but apparently it was a punishment for a group of Dalek 'criminals' (how that works I don't know) and the group included the Dalek from the previous story that got turned into an exhibit at the Space Museum because it didn't pay the entry fee.
Peak Doctor Who really is balancing good writing, drama, tragedy and camp fun. Take the Daleks;
On their best day, you can totally buy that these guys battled the LORDS OF TIME, in a conflict that threatened to destroy the entire universe.
Here however, they struggle to do basic maths, get mocked for their appearance and get bullied by carnival animatronics.
It's beautiful, really.
No but seriously The Chase is the absolute best and it's a goddamn travesty the show didn't do more "six mini adventures in one adventure" type stories. I get that it's cheaper to just build one set and run up and down it for six epiodes but goddamn imagine if classic Who even occasionally went back to the effort and passion from a production standpoint of the Hartnell years.
A story like this that forgoes any and all pretentions of seriousnes storytelling and just asks "what can wo do, where can we go, and how much can it delight the children at home" is the essence of Who in a way the show never even considers approaching again. It's sad they never went this route again but then again The Chase is all the more special for being one of a kind. As a result Hartnell is the one Doctor I don't even need to think for a second to choose the best story of.
There’s a classic who novel called Interference part one that has a scene where Bill Gates is giving a press conference and it turns out Microsoft made the androids from the festival of Ghana and “it wasn’t his fault the robots started killing people” 😳
I adore the chase. Its THE go to one when im in the mood for some dumb fun. It exuberantes playfulness and joy more than pretty much any other story. Chefs kiss
I can't decide if The Chase or The Power of the Daleks is the best Dalek story... they r mighty equals.

I love the Chase. It has a wild vibe.
My main point is doctor who travels in time and through space, so the doctor will travel through different Timelines. As Davis says Everything is Cannon. Hopefully RTD2 follows through with an ultimate timeline exploration. Multiple Aces? Spinoff with Ace?
The Chase is my favourite story and it definitely is the best Dalek story. Can see your both men of taste.

While I won’t say ‘best classic who story’, or even ‘best first doctor story’. But as best story of it’s season and very high first doctor story. It’s a good one, and while saying ‘best’ is a bit much, I can see why people like it.
