Here is the hill I will die on … The Minivan is great of a vehicle design as the Miata, F150 or any other iconic vehicle. The right tool for the job and perhaps the most versatile one ever! We had a Windstar with dual sliding doors, second row captains chairs and removable seats. For road trips we took out one of the second row seats and put our cooler and snacks and games there, and one child sat in the back bench and the other had their own other captains chair in second row … great for keeping the peace for a days worth of driving. Also remove the seats and haul a full sized couch with the back closed. And it drove really good whether it was loaded or just me. Thanks for sharing the love for this underrated vehicle. Love me a Miata Love me a MiniVan too 👊🏻😎🕹️
I detail cars for a living, and I use a 2004 Odyssey as my work van. For me, it was the perfect balance of cargo space, fuel efficiency, reliability, and it's extremely comfortable. I don't know why minivans aren't used more - they arguably offer more utility than a sport "utility" vehicle.
Best, most honest YT car vid I've seen in forever. These are also the answer to the people that are forced to, or chose to live in their vehicles. Minivans are the the new station wagons, and who doesn't love a station wagon? Great work Alanis!
I grew up with a Town and Country. I learned to drive in that minivan. I also hauled all my buddies in that van and not a complaint was had as opposed to our crossover now. I love minivans! Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video. Spread the minivan love! I want to get one for our next family car so bad but my wife harps on that soccer mom stigma.
0:05 I had a classmate from botswana who said these kinds of pickups can't actually survive in Africa; they're too big Old for rangers, Nissan frontiers and the like are the true offroad-capable pickups
I love minivans. My family used to own an Astro Van which became my first car when I got my license, and I just loved it (it also got featured in my high school yearbook too!) I agree, Americans need to buy more minivans, I hope they make a comeback in the future. The odyssey does need a refresh though!
This story rings so true on personal levels, and I’m sure we all have our own “minivan stories” at this point! When I grew up some of my friends parents had those gen 1 Chryslers… they were comfy and I loved the ice cold AC in the second row! Fast forward to 2001, my parents got a Chrysler Voyager right after Plymouth was absorbed - it was to replace their 1982 Econoline van. They put 200K on it with just regular maintenance before finally transitioning to SUVs. And then fast forward to *now* - I’ve got a small child of my own and one thing car reviewers seldom cover is the “second row dilemma” - and by that I mean rear-facing child seats! Try putting a nicer one (like a Diono) behind your drivers seat in any 3-row SUV and see how much *front seat* room you have - it won’t be much! The only solution to that is a minivan! And to the rear… in a minivan, you’ll get Suburban-like cargo room without the bulk and horrible fuel consumption. As a result, cultural stigma must be the only reason why these vans don’t sell the way they used to.
Minivans are totally underrated. Particularly the Sienna and Odyssey. I'm an enthusiast, I've had enough Miatas and RX7s and CRXs and MR2s to put one in every state in the nation over the years. And for it's all around usefulness, I say you can't beat one of those minivans. They're comfortable, they're efficient, they drive really well, they've got good power, and everybody fits inside. Compared to any SUV or crossover short of a Cayenne it's the better vehicle. The perfect two-car garage? A Honda Odyssey and a Boxster GTS Then again, I'm one of those guys who cares absolutely nothing about projecting an image so there's that.
Minivans are making a comeback! That’s awesome. My mom drives an SUV and all I want is a sedan, but if I need a really capable car I think I will buy an odyssey!
My mother-in-law loaned me her Odyssey after the transmission in my accord died. I ended up driving it through my first two years of college. That thing was the group's favorite car, and I genuinely miss it.
This is possibly the first time a Honda Odyssey has been reviewed by someone wearing a Cowboy hat. I think Honda missed an opportunity to create an Acura version for people looking for more luxury. It's a shame it doesn't have 360 cam. I thought these had a built-in vacuum cleaner?
They did have the Honda Vac, but similar to the Sienna and it's 2nd row fridge, those where manufactured by Shop Vac which went belly up in 2020, that's why if you see some early reviews, they have them, but they're no longer an option for either cars.
I do too. My dad always wanted a minivan in the 90s and early 2000s, but my mom didn't want to drive a big car. They eventually picked up a used 1998 Volvo V70 XC with the third-row, rear-facing jump seat. They had that car for over 20 years. It was honestly as big a car as our family of 5 ever needed. We did make use of the roof rack space extender on a few occasions, but I can count on one hand the number of times we actually used it. Space extenders are so underutilized by Americans. Why carry around all the extra space on your daily commute when you can just add it for that road trip or ski trip once or a few times a year? For more serious cargo duties, my dad had a cheap, basic compact pickup truck around (Mazda B2000, then a Ford Ranger), which cost virtually nothing to buy and maintain.
we bought an Olds Silhouette in 1990, gave it to my son when we bought a Chevy Venture in 2000. Kept that until 2012 when we gave it to another family member and bought a Scion xB. Always enjoyed the functionality of the minivans. Now thre's just the two of us and the squareness of the Scion coupled with the folding rear seats makes it our mini, minivan.
My wife and I bought an SUV last year because we didn’t like minivans, the other day we traded it in for a Honda Odyssey because they are the perfect vehicle.
Props for the J35 insights - I’ve had a J series in my 3G and 4G TLs, 9th Gen Accord and current TLX SH-AWD and have had zero issues with any of them. Plus they sound amazing with a simple bolt on intake. Would definitely rock that van with the same setup and really turn some heads 😂
the idea that a minivan is boring but an SUV/crossover isn't is so laughable to me from my point of view, they're all soccer mom vehicles, so get the more practical one! lol
Its true but there is still a certain demographic who isn't terribly into cars/doesn't think it's important (or doesn't have time) to critically think about what they're driving (the I hate driving & I need an A to B that my peers will congratulate me on person) who still think it is subversive and safer to drive an SUV/CUV. In an ideal world I would say in the next 5yrs all the press about how bad SUV/CUVs actually are for the average driver with (low visibility/fatal crashes/unfriendly to everyone on the road including pedestrians and how overpriced they are for diminishing returns) will pay off, but if I'm being realistic I think people will double-down on their bloated mushboxs & assert that it is patriotic to like their lifted tincans or something.
Awesome review, was surprised to hear that the current Odyssey has a similar engine to the one my family had for a long time (2003 model year). Keep up the good work, Alanis!
Arguably, today's young families had SUVs as children, so I feel like the van/MPV is on a comeback. But seriously, can we get sliding door wagons? Just me? ok ...
Ok now that I've calmed myself down. A bit of insight from a buyers side since we where in the market for 2022 and got a 2023 Ody. I'm surprised Sienna numbers where down 5% in 2022 but I'm sure that decline is down to the then ongoing chip/supplier issues. Anyone who wanted to buy a Sienna in 2022 or 2023 (and still in some markets today) can't, because there aren't any in lots, like there's no vehicles because they're all sold, spoken for or haven't been made yet. The limiting number for Toyota is not demand, it's supply. I bet a good chunk of the increases in minivans across the board are people who wanted to buy the Sienna, got sold on the minivan virtues and then had to buy something else. We wanted a minivan, but could not do the 18 month(!) wait to get our Sienna, and got a Odyssey in a few weeks to do the things we needed this car for. A lot of car buyers did the same. In some parts of the US this is no longer an issue, but I keep reading in other parts it still is, and good luck in Canada or here In Mexico, where we get a few of the cars produced in Toyota's USA plant. ABSOLUTELY agree on the no 360° camera. A daily driver with a possibly stressed driver is not a recipe for a car that will have pristine paint/bodywork. I can't believe that for this price it doesn't have it. But that's and the fact that no hybrid powertrain is available is my only nitpick on this vehicle, that said....I love the engine on this car, it's great how much power it has, relative for what it is....and the VTEC wail, lol. We use it for ferrying around our kids + friends, and they love it, literally yesterday I got to drop off their friends but they stayed for a few minutes on the car since they where at the climax of the movie and couldn't be bothered to leave lol and long trips are blissful on this... a non issue to drive for all day, it's amazing and I really want more excuses to take it on long multi day trips. It's also crazy how much stuff you can fit if you put the seats down and take out the ones in the middle row. My wife has randomly showed up with furniture that has no business fitting on the car and it just did with no issues haha. It's sad people are so obsessed with "the image" since this is about as a practical vehicle you can get, and once you get it, it's ridiculous how inefficient other large cars feel. Great review...and for the last time....MINIVAAAAAN!
I had a similar experience. Was looking for a new Sienna but was told it would be maybe 6 months. So I decided to look at Honda who said the wait time would be around 3 or 4 months. I was on board, but I joined some Odyssey facebook groups to check the temperature. The people HATED their Oddyessys. Always breaking down and things being recalled for widespread malfunctions.
@@JxBx80 Strange about the 3 or 4 month wait on the Odyssey, we only waited a few weeks bit since we where told about a color combination that the dealership was going to get and wanted that particular one. Initially we where told a month or two wait for the Sienna, which then got bumped to 3...then another 3 months, and lastly "at least 6 to 12 additional to what we'd waited so far". We then walked over to Honda and got the Ody. I did read that the early implementations of cylinder deactivation caused a ton of grief to owners, to the point that kits to bypass it are thriving out there, I haven't seen anything conclusive for the current V3 Earthdreams VCM and we don't run it in our car since there seem to be some subtle tuning differences for the Mexican market, and don't want to risk it. A lot of back and forward on the, no longer offered, 9 speed transmission and did read of some issues on the infotainment. Didn't understand if you did indeed bought it or waited the Sienna out. Hope whatever you got is serving you well!
as a Buick Roadmaster wagon owner I love how my car does everything a full size truck can do without being a menace to children or people walking around. I know chrysler is the king of minivans but I did love my chevy astro I had. it's crazy how vans, minivans and wagons can do everything so much better then a truck or SUV yet people don't care because you can't lift them or take them mudding which they never do.
Boosted Boiz on UA-cam has a Odyssey mini van that was converted to awd. It has a giant turbo, makes 1000hp and does the quarter mile in under 10 seconds.
I have a 2019 Nissan Frontier pickup, nicely equipped. It's the perfect truck.. for me. It fits in parking decks, hauls stuff, tows stuff, it's comfortable on road and pretty good on the occasional dirt road,.. and it's not stupidly large like all these new full size pickups.
Honestly, I really don't like minivans. BUT you, Alanis, make me think they're so damn cool! LOL. Great review. You certainly have a knack for making not so cool vehicles look much cooler!
Nothing says “yee-haw!” like Alanis King in a cowgirl hat driving a minivan! Lol! Once again, a fantastic review as always! I think ima need that cowgirl hat to make more appearances! Lol! Excellent job Alanis!
When I was in high school, I desperately wanted to buy a Honda Odyssey van (first gen) that I'd found for $700...my parents could not understand why I'd want that. The answer? All of your friends can hang out in it during lunch period! I didn't buy it (bought a 1994 Camry Wagon for about the same instead, which also ruled) but minivans have always been baller!!!
Minivans are KING (pun intended?) for group trips with adults. Renting or hiring a minivan Uber is perfect when all passengers are taller than 5 feet. Not to mention superior ride comfort over SUVs.
It's simple: the minivan is just not 'cool.' And Americans (both men and women) are all about their image and their 'identity' and keeping up with their peers. So much for individuality and free-thinkers eh?
It's shocking how many people in this comment section think a mini van can replace a truck and that people only buy them for an ego stroke. Ya'll do understand trucks have this feature called a bed and they can haul heavy loads? Many of us do have trucks because we use them to do stuff you cannot do with a mini van. I don't enjoy getting 10 mpg's but I have a truck do work and tote big stuff around. Honestly, wtf is wrong with some of ya'll?
It rated high when it came out but V6 mileage and FWD only seems less than fresh in the current market. Objectively, as a people mover it's hard to beat.
I really love minivan because they're family friendly and the 2025 Honda odyssey is a great choice and the price it's not that bad I would buy one for myself for my own family in the future keep it up❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I have to imagine that given there are no illusions of going for driving experience here, something like Toyota's ecvt (not actually a cvt at all) hybrid system would be really attractive to get some decent fuel economy
I think the interesting thing about the minivan haters is they tend also not to be car aficionados. They just want something that looks good with power. Meanwhile I care more about my kids not dinging cars, having actual usable space, and gas efficiency. If it makes me boring, so be it. I have another car thats for fun :p
The three row mid-size SUV killed the minivan more than anything. P.S. I was literally counting down the seconds till you mentioned the Kia Carnival. 😂
The Sienna dropped in sales numbers because Toyota decided if they made very few they could overcharge for each one so they purposely don't make as many and make a lot more money on each one. You still can't go to a Toyota dealership and buy a sienna some people are waiting over a year and even longer in Canada and most are paying over MSRP plus whatever add-ons the dealership rips them off with
Bring back wagons and minivans. I used to think SUVs (body on frame ones only!) were cool niche cars with specific functions. Now, it has evolved into CUVs... ugh
Those rear seats are going to need seat covers if there is any intent of putting kids back there. Cleaning crumbs and/or liquids out of perforated seats is a nightmare!
I give it about 5 years until suv's are the same level of cool as minivans currently are. and everyone will be ditching them for whatever the next trendy family car style is. hopefully its not pickup trucks... because there's far too many trucks and they're terrible to use as cars. could go full circle back to wagons. that'd be cool
Honda Odyyssey type R lets go!
Would love it

Nothing says “yee-haw!” like Alanis King in a cowgirl hat driving a minivan! Lol! Once again, a fantastic review as always! I think ima need that cowgirl hat to make more appearances! Lol! Excellent job Alanis!
I never thought you would review a minivan
Hey Alana. A quality video, even for an anonymous minivan. BTW, that hat needs its own name.
So good that we bought two!
If the Odyssey sits low, then you've been driving way too many SUVs and trucks!!
Minivans are great. They get a lot of stuff right
Totally
Minivans are KING (pun intended?) for group trips with adults. Renting or hiring a minivan Uber is perfect when all passengers are taller than 5 feet. Not to mention superior ride comfort over SUVs.
YES
It's simple: the minivan is just not 'cool.' And Americans (both men and women) are all about their image and their 'identity' and keeping up with their peers. So much for individuality and free-thinkers eh?
Yeah!
Holy crap! I watched a Minivan review!😮
Thank you 🫡🫡
minivans r practical n can take many ppl ❤
I really love minivan because they're family friendly and the 2025 Honda odyssey is a great choice and the price it's not that bad I would buy one for myself for my own family in the future keep it up❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
love the yellow & black boots ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿
Minivans are alright, but station wagons are so much cooler. Such a shame they are not popular in America.
If we would chose cars based on logic . . . . 😀 Thanks Alanis!
The Odyssey is a luxury car with a huge trunk.
With the death of the wagon, the minivan will take that space for enthusiasts, especially Japanese/SE Asian car fans
You still can't go to a Toyota dealership and buy a sienna some people are waiting over a year and even longer in Canada and most are paying over MSRP plus whatever add-ons the dealership rips them off with
Once you go stow in go you never go back. Middle row fold flat seats are mandatory in my book so the Pacifica always wins.
If i didn't already have a venza i would buy a current gen sienna even as a single man myself.
Do you like the ford excursion
MAKE MINIVANS GREAT AGAIN!!
Minivan gang
I love this minivan!
Yes!
Howdy Alanis nice cowgirl outfit
13:04 The heated seats starting at 3 lights is Nothing New, the older GMC Denali's did this and the seats Will Heat up in 5 minutes or less.
Comfiest ride for the price too
So good
make minivans great again
Would not have guessed that was 2025… looks outdated
But I bet it’s practical for road trip to certain locations
Minivans rock!
Yes!
Looking like Pixar mom. 😉
Does this have built in wifi
I give it about 5 years until suv's are the same level of cool as minivans currently are. and everyone will be ditching them for whatever the next trendy family car style is. hopefully its not pickup trucks... because there's far too many trucks and they're terrible to use as cars.
could go full circle back to wagons. that'd be cool
I'm only a minute in and I hope the Kia Carnival gets a mention! Alanis is the Carnival Queen!
IT WILL
I never got the appeal of suvs. They're just minivans, but more expensive and with less space.
Nice hair Alanis
So damn hot
boots guy is going to be so mad at this video
True story Alanis.
I watched a minivan review….
I’m honored
They are gonna keep selling these after the apocalypse
the prime reason, it's always Ego.
They're just way too expensive now, even used
Cool
I can not stand piano black parts. I just don't get why they do that.
Hell yeah!
Someone should lift it and put some tires on it
The Bossted Boyz disagree w/ you 🤔
Hm
Yams
Cake
Why Doug DeMuro dumped you 🤔
Ask him
YEAAAAH MINIVAN!!
YEAH
