  • Back squats are the KING of all squats. Anyone who would say otherwise is a mouth breathing cretin!
The front squat is a fantastic exercise that builds muscle and strength in the thighs, along with superior upper back strength, while also encouraging and enhancing mobility through the lats, thoracic spine, hips, knees, and ankles! But it's big brother, the back squat, is the TRUE KING of the squat.
If you want to build big, strong legs then do it the tried and true, old school way: squat, squat, and squat some more. Today I present the top 3 reasons why the BACK SQUAT outshines the front squat!

Regarding the point about the ability to push the back squat further, what I like sometimes to do when I want to punish myself and my legs is a superset, when I dart with the front squat, re-rack the bar when necessary and then immediately continue the sat with the bar on my back.
Best of both worlds, especially since I can start with heavy few reps of front squat and then the back squat is still not that light for that movement.

Hey man, only recently discovered your channel and love your stuff. My watchlist is struggling under the weight of your videos that I have added to it!
I do have a quick question...I currently train both front and back squats every week, but am thinking about a change in programme involving heavy squats only once a week. I know you're videos were tongue in cheek, but I have genuinely been struggling to decide which squat to give up - probably prefer back squats in the moment, but have felt the front squats to be hugely beneficial as well. Anyway my question is if I were to try to keep both, would you recommend sticking to one for a few months before switching to the other, or do you think it would be fine switching between them week to week? Cheers!

Hey Alec. Quick question. A lot of people say when someone is on gear that doesn't take away from all the hard work they have to do and that they can just eat like shit.
I'm an 8 year natty now, and if I go on a cut I can only stay at that level of leanness for just under 2 months. My last cut my lowest body fat % was 9.8 with a +/- of 1-2%. At this level of fat I was still able to maintain strength, but around 1.5 months around that BF I noticed I wasn't recovering well enough before hitting the same muscle group again. I was starting my workouts somewhat sore, lifts began to decrease in either weight done, reps done, or both. But I still looked pretty decent. Start my bulk back up and now my strength is better, recovery time between muscle groups is way better, but my abs are much less defined, but even though I'm technically bigger, since my muscles are all around less defined I look smaller or "less like I workout"
I know someone who started test and steroids like 2-3 months ago. And this dude looks like he's been working out for 5 years. And it all happened within 2-3 months. I've personally worked out with him before. He has very little knowledge about lifting or programming, doesn't have a coach, and other than occasionally hitting the gym with me in his free time, has little experience in the gym. In 2-3 months he's gotten bigger than me, leaner, and stronger. I'm just curious to know what your thoughts are on something like that? How people say steroids don't do all the work... but I've seen first hand someone who has terrible form, can't plan a workout worth a shit, eats like shit, constantly drinks alcohol, and just seemingly does everything wrong, but looks phenomenal under steroid usage

People who don't use gear overestimate how much it helps and people who use gear underestimate how much it helps. But I'd agree to a point, it does a lot more than steroid users like to admit, especially in terms of bodybuilding.

Hello coach, I just wanted to ask if you could explain what it means when you say "to pair" 2 exercises together in your programs, does that mean it's like a superset but with longer breaks between exercises? For example
    B1 OHP variation
    B2 Chin-up variation
Does this mean I do one set of OHP then one set of chin-up, and repeat?
Also could you give an example of "ramping up to 5 heavy reps" of an exercise? What would be the best way to do that, and how many sets exactly (or is this completely auto regulated?)?

I don't outright disagree with the claim that BS > FS in isolation, but imho the synergy you get if you combine RDL's and front squats cannot be touched by pairing back squats with any other exercise.

Regarding reason #3, I can do zombie style front squats without issues, but anytime I try back squats, my arms fall asleep due to shoulder (mobility?) issues. I guess everyone has to find what's right for him. And by the way, I don't think adding stuff to your title like (You'll NEVER Guess XYZ) is necessary. Your audience is mature enough.

I had a similar problem doing good mornings. Maybe play around with grip width a bit and see if anything changes. For front squats you could also try cross grip even though this is less stable than front rack. I'm also trying to improve my mobility for the front rack as I can barely wrap 2 fingers around the bar at 160 without it beginning to feel very awkward at 7 or so reps in, I don't know if you can actually significantly improve your wrist and elbow mobility but it's worth a try.

I've been really enjoying these controversial videos you've been putting out lately, flipping the script.
I have a suggestion for another one of these videos: the barbell foam pad (i.e. the "pu$$y pad") is not the worst thing in the world!
And if you think that it is, all I'll say is this: why do you love safety squat bars (SSB) and have no problem with the fact that they are padded??
If you think such pads are for untrained women and men that look like such women, than you should sell your SSB or take a knife to it to make it "better".
(I.e. this comment is somewhat of a joke, I squat without it, but I think there's some truth to what I'm saying 😅)

      @@CigEconomy
How does it make a difference?
Most people don't get beyond beginner stage or at most early intermediate. They don't need a large exercise selection but need only one squatting motion.
So if over a year or two of linear progressive overload they go from 40kg to 100kg front squats or from 60kg to 120kg back squats what is the huge difference?
They need only one type of squat to keep practicing and increasing the weight over time and their quads will develop. It doesn't matter whether it's front squats, back squats or another type of squat.
You are wrong. Unless you care to explain yourself.
