In the throws of buying the exact same model here in Australia. Really is a beautiful car. Makes you happy just looking at it. Thanks for the very complete review.
The 220s is the best car ever, my elder brother had one back home in Baghdad in dark grey, strong, comfortable and lovely engine much better than 250 and 280s.
I owned a '58 in the late 60s. Loved the car. But it was expensive to mainatin so I sold it and bought a VW. It was fun to see your video and go down memory lane. Thanks.
There certainly was FM radio in 1958, but that's a much later transistorized model from the late 70s. Whoever fitted it would have had to have hacked the dash hole a bit bigger to fit it.
I heard those lights are on there so at night on a tight street you can leave the street side light on and then people will see your car better on little Euro streets. That is what I was told....light bulb drains so little battery you can have it on all night easy.
.....do you ever get spares for them?....The Germans should help collectors to keep this heritage alive!..l see you also have cracks on the steering wheel ...Can one fix that??
My grandfather messhod ankaoi died year 1985 , possessed exactly mercedes ponton years 1964-1979 i remember 😂😂😂😂my grandfather farting non stop in the car .
The transmission is interesting. If using that button to automatically use the clutch, and not using the clutch actually makes this transmission a semi automatic. My only problem is how fucking dull the wooden dashboard is. The late 1950's Jaguar Mark Series interior wooden dashboards were way shinier than this. Even though I prefer Mercedes Benz over Jaguar.

Ich hatte einen wunderschönen 180 (Benzin) Baujahr 1960, den später auch gegen einen kostengünstigeren VW getauscht hatte !
Beautiful car. I don't normally like blue, but it looks great on the 220s. Love the styling with that huge grill.
I had a 219S . What a beautiful,.. masterpiece of German engineering....ever sorry I sold it.
