No better way to start the morning than a Lee video about Jackson Browne!
Agreed.
@@sethcashman1011 And no better way to start the evening!
iLove that you’re reminiscing on these old Jackson Browne songs. These songs serve a personal foundation atop my 60s birthright music log (Beatles, Stones, James Taylor’s Sweet Baby James, Bonnie Raitt, Graham Nash, Carole King, Lowell George et al) all albums brought home by my beloved two older brothers, David & Jonny). When I see you close your eyes and drift back into the recording of these songs it validates the decades of listening and loving doing the same - a small but most poignant part of our lives and the lives of dozens of personal friends and literally thousands and probably millions of strangers - your fans connected to and by this shared love & experience - the broader music genre and Universe that connects us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart & soul!
Eloquently said, Josh.......and spot on.
This song gets me every time I hear it. The lyrics dig deep and the music is beautiful. Have a lovely Saturday all! 🌻
Enjoy your Saturday too Gina
Me too, every time.
Me three- back to That Time That guy Those feelings- sigh
Thank you. Jackson is such an artist painting us these beautiful pictures
Lost a dear, dear friend yesterday didn't want to get out of bed. But did just to find the soul calming Jackson Browne. Thank you Leland 😊💓
I'm so sorry to hear, Kelley. May your friend rest in peace and you find comfort soon in great memories
I'm so sorry for your pain, Kelley. God bless everyone touched by this passing. Happy to hear Jackson is helping to soothe the pain a bit. 🕊💜
I'm sorry for your loss😥
Kelley......Totally understand the feeling. The whole month of April is hard for me ( my brother passed away in April ). One day at a time I guess😞
So sorry.
G'morning Lee and all! Another old favorite by Jackson. Great way to begin the day in earnest. Hope everyone is well.
Morning Seth
@@Linda-wk9ue Hi Linda!
Morning Seth all's well down here we're now out of DST so the nights will be getting darker quicker. BOOOOO 😒
The beautiful sights and fragrances in your back yard...and the beautiful voice of Jackson. What a peaceful way to start your day. Thank you for sharing a part of it with us, along with your memories.
💕 my fav line: "There's a train everyday. Leaving either way." 🌈 Thanks, Lee..!
+ Thomas Lahr. Mine too. “ There’s a world , you know
There’s a way to go
But you’ll soon be gone, It’s just as well
This is my opening farewell.
What a way to say goodbye ! I have described this song on other sites as a young love affair that had simply outgrown itself. So well said by Jackson Browne.
Been away for awhile while my wife and I recovered from horrible bouts of Covid-19. She was on a ventilator for 30 days and according to her team of doctors should not be alive. A total of 54 days in a coma. She’s a miracle... I had it bad enough that my team thought I’d be gone within 48 hours of admission to the hospital. They sent me home 12 days later. I’ve missed the hell out of this community, glad to be back. Love this content
Sending my best healing energy to your wife............my heart is with you!
My best to you and your wife. My wife is a physician working in the ICU unit and I can only assure people reading this, that this virus is no joke, and I implore people to protect themselves and by extension, everyone else. I asked her if seeing what is going on in ICU compares with anything she saw when she was working trauma, and said this is trauma with no let up.
Welcome back - may you and your wife have continuing improved health. My thoughts are with you.
I hope that all works out well for you and your wife. It is a tough time, stay safe.
Good god... I'm SO glad to hear that you both made it through this. Wishing you both a quick and complete recovery. I wish more people took this virus as seriously as it needs to be taken.
This is one of my favorite Jackson Browne songs. Thanks for uploading this song and your memories of it.
This song always stirs emotions in me - "There's a train every day leaving either way
There's a world, you know There's a way to go"!
The phrasing, so Jackson, almost conversational. And the way it's used differently twice. Such a poignant song.
And then Bonnie does it and makes it her own - even when singing it in a duet with Jackson.
Agreed, all of the above. Loved Bonnie's duet with Jackson. Also heard Jackson sing it with Amy Helm at the old City Winery in NYC. Simply wonderful.
+ Rick Converse. I love all of the words and phrasings that you do and I loved seeing Jackson and Bonnie singing this song together, and it sounded great ; however as written this was a sad melancholy song about a young romance that had simply outgrown itself. In a contrary way, the Bonnie Raitt version sounded pretty happy. Jackson had a way about complying with other people, especially friends. It would have only taken a couple of changes to keep this song true to itself.
I'm not a bass player but there's a video somewhere where Mr. Sklar advises that to be a good one, you must first listen to the song before putting your fancy mark on it. In the words of Mr. Prine, "The song's the boss." I was listening to My Opening Farewell on repeat about 30 times while lying on a beach in Portimao, as is the want of an old man. I doubt there is a better example of what this great musician means about 'listen first'. Lots.
Noone paints a musical landscape like Jackson.
Thanks for sharing Lee. This is my fav UA-cam channel by far
Agree with all of the above.
Lee Sklar and Jackson Browne making a great day even better!
Have a terrific day visiting and catching up with everyone.
Stay safe and stay well!
Jackson's music was always part of my life ...so enjoyable to listen to ....loved this album. Thanks for taking us back to his great songwriting.
Hey Leland, this song, a duet with Bonnie Raitt and Jackson playing guitars performed at some awards/honorary show is beyond beautiful, just ethereal....sparkling, thanks for all you do in preserving wonderful musical moments. My 2 cents.{:-))
Miss Pasadena.
The 20+ years lived there are filled with special moments 👍😎
The timing of the lightning shift with the tune on this vid was magical!👍😎
👍😎❤🖖
Love brother
What a kind person you've remained. Well played Leland.
Good Afternoon Leland and everybody
Lee, you picked up another 1K. Channel is now up to 152K subscribers, way to go. From this eclectic music aficionado from The Beatles to Beck!
Such a beautiful, sad, generous song.
Another wonderful song from that special era.
All honor to John Fishbeck and the part he played in your life trajectory......I’m so thankful that he did.
Lee Sklar....you are awesome!
Thank you! 🥰
JB, Mr Fishbeck, and a KILLER bass part... Perfection (again)!
Good Morning 🌞 🐰🐇
Jackson touches my soul and heart! Sounds like a fun filled day for you. 😊 So looking forward to Jackson's new Album, please tell him to come to Colorado. Along with you and The Immediate Family 😎
That would be a couple of fantastic concerts!
By God what a beautiful song... I can see it moves you, but tears are streaming from my eyes.
Thank you Leland.....short and sweet and fragrant. I hope you get a nap. Have a great night.
Thank you for this one Mr S. nigh on 50 years ago and still relevant and vital now as then.
Even prouder now to be counted a Sklarite with the end of the "war" in sight now.
Courage mes braves!! All best to everyone out there.
Have always loved this song...also love Bonnie Raitt's version on her "Road Tested" album (with Jackson)...beautiful! Thank you for sharing this one with us... 🧡
So happy for you to be able to get together and play music again with your 'family.' I love those guys - Russ, Danny, Waddy, Steve - as well. Enjoy your day, and please never stop with posting songs by Jackson.
After this long day, reward yourself! Relax. Enjoy the comforts of home, make it a hard day's night!
Morning Lee and everyone. Sounds like a busy day for ya. Hope you get a few breaks to go out and get some fresh air 😊 Take care all and stay safe. (this song is so beautiful in it's simplicity 💕)
Hi Linda. Hope life is treating you kindly.
What a beautiful bass part to such a beautiful song. Thanks so much.
Memory lane week of music, thanks Leland. So good.
Such a wonderful bass line!
Here's wishing you and Mrs Sklar (and the boys) a restful Easter Sunday! And I am so glad you're finally getting to jam with the boys of IFamily - I know it'll be a blast. Thank you for sharing another beautiful song with us - what an insanely legendary backing band.
Happy Easter, Leland. Just got my second vax an hour ago!
Caught Waddy on TV tonight w Stevie Nicks Live...thought about the Immediate Family...Waddy killed that gig...he was also the musical director on that tour.
Lee, you paint pictures with your words. I can see the fog around the trees, and can even smell the richness fog seems to bring with it. Thank you for touching my soul this morning.
straight through, no bathroom breaks. you are a trooper Lee. you gotta be beat at the end of today. thanks for this and more JB.
Rehearsal??!!?!?!? What's that??? Have a great time and say hello to everyone for all of us!
So great, Lee! As a life long admirer of your's. This site is amazing!! I'm a local...was so great to see you guys at the Wiltern and the Troubadour back in the day. Smaller, more intimate venues are my favorites! Thanks from the bottom of my vaccinated ❤️!
I love small venues too!
Leland you pick on lots of jb favourites eh. !
Yes like listening to the fuse open The pretender LP ...
But hearing it for the first time when it came out was brilliant. !
It's a slow lead up song & if I play it, I'm like you, just trying to get the original sound in my ears (re imaginings) like I can remember exactly that time, sitting on the bed, in the bungalow with older brother argh (listening for first time) argh again
So take good care of yer mother, oh well !
All reports are that California is Babylon but Leland is unfazed. Good for you Leland.
I love that song... Jackson Browne has so many brilliant songs!
Lee, big love for your work on this song, with its graceful, lilting fills. It almost singlehandedly motivated me to buy a bass in 1980.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful memories. Jackson Browne’s music is always great. Take care & God bless. Happy Easter! 🐇 🐣 🐇🐣 🐇
Love Jackson and love you, Lee. And happy Saturday everyone!
Thanks for Jackson Today Lee.......Make sure you get up and move around between calls. Sounds like a lot of them!!!
Tells all the CATS were are HAPPY FOR THE I.F. ...... all together AGAIN!!!!!
A good way to start any day..
Afternoon Leland, hope the rehearsal goes well.
Hey! Going to be great to see the guys and plug in....
Sometimes disagree with you, but always enjoy your vids. When I miss a couple of days, it’s always nice to tap in again. What a cool life you must have with so many friends and memorable music. And those amazing pups. Cheers.
Lee ... I think this is one of your most intuitive bass lines. Really nice.
Love ya man. A person of feeling can’t be bettered.
A classic tune for all ages 🙌🏽🔥
Have a Great day Mr Sklar ! love ❤ your channel
Nothing better than a great Jackson Browne song to put things in perspective.
You just looked right into my eyes. Wow!
Love the harmonic at the end .
What a beautiful song. A man in touch with feelings.
I've been obsessing over this song ( last 1-2 months ) where he sings it with Bonnie. Guess there's no such thing as a coincidence🤔
I love Bonnie’s version, too. I think Alison Krauss has also done it.
I love the version with Bonnie and their beautiful harmonies. But this one just gets me at my core and takes me back to those good old days.
Hello, Lee and everyone! It looks to be a taxing day for you, Lee. May you rest soundly after a day full of one-on-one festivities. Peace and love to you all!
I've really enjoyed your videos Lee! Very interesting. See you on the next Rock Legends cruise!!!!
Will be a ball....👍🏼
A great song, but also a great arrangement.
It is always good to have a Sklar sighting in my day
. I am getting my band together in the next few weeks to rehearse! A little tour planned for the Fall.
Morning Leland and everyone else in the family. 😊
Your bass line is so incredible...many times I work to just listen to what you're doing. How was it created? Did Jackson give you free reign? Input? I have always been curious as to your creative process!
These video segments, sre soooo good. Especially loving the Jackson Browne ones, but they're all good
WOW, LS, thank you so MUCH
Hi Leland, still home here in Belize...on my way to the UK in a few weeks for health checkups and hopefully riding a new triumph.....also taking my bicycle to ride the Cornish coast and do some camping along the way.
Always remember my days staying in Malibu...hanging with friends during “late for the sky” with Jackson,Jai winding....all those friends....good days....one of my all time favoritos today tho...🤗🕉......can’t believe so long ago when it still seems like yesterday.....love to you and everyone....🌹🌹🌹🌹❤️🥰
I know that your day is packed, please know that your channel has helped encourage me to move deeper into my musical experience. "Late for the Sky" was an album that started me during my college days. We share that and I appreciate everything that you have accomplished. Please enjoy this Easter Sunday in the way that you choose...
Thank you Lee!! A beautiful song indeed. Beautiful acoustic guitar playing too.Enjoy your skype/zoom/Facetime day. I know you're excited about rehearsals next week - oh yeah. Monday I start a local high school production of Mama Mia! Can't wait - 4 keyboard players, 2 guitars, drums, percussion and I'm playing bass. All masked up and social distanced. The kids (singers) are amazing! Thanks for getting up early and doing this. See you tomorrow.
Have a wonderful time with the show. A fun book....
I love these videos! It is great to hear your insights and memories about these iconic songs and artists. I’m fully vaccinated and can’t wait to hear live music again...safely.
I really do appreciate you and your playing. but you make my day better listening in in your world, thank you sir! you are remarkable!
Always great looking back and enjoying past accomplishments! Fantastic selection!!
For us gearheads, can you let us know some of the equipment that you are taking along into rehearsal?
Lee, thanks for this. JB and you, in turn have provided so much of the soundtrack of my life. I love hearing the back stories of so many songs I’ve listened to for so many years.
I’ve always appreciated Leland as he always has a plan. I do too. Plans are important. Rock on Leland. 👍😊
For these musicians seems like song writing, melody, words and life itself is a vocation.
Morning 🖐🏻 thank You Lee 👍🏻 have a great saturday ✌🏻
This album, and this song in particular is what I identify as Leland Solar playing. So melodic and supportive.
This channel has taught me how much more if your playing I've heard that didn't know was you.
Thank you for all of it!
Early Jackson, have never heard it, Thank You for the song Leland. Have a Great Day and pace yourself. Hello Maureen and the kids. Doug
That wistful tone in your voice, Leland
Good setting for you to share some Jackson with us!!!!
Scared for a moment. Leland’s not leaving. 3:38 Just a song name. Great song.
Great song with such a tasteful arrangement and group of musicians. I haven't played that one in a while, I'll have to see if I can recall it from memory. Double drop D if my memory serves correctly. As always....thanks Leland.
Beautiful song!
Your podcasts make my day.
it's most definitely 'saturate before using' .. must have total immersion to be effective ..
This brings back many memories of my relative beginnings. Very meaningful to me back then, and now. Thanks!
Leland you've been handling the bass line for so many great songs always filling in just the right note ...Thanks
Very beautiful song ...
Incredible counterpoint bass line you came up with sir Lee. I often wondered how long it took to work that up, or was it just the magic of the moment.
The moment....
@@lelandsklar6363 Nice. a big dollop of inspiration
If you get around to it someday, I always loved the title cut from For Everyman. I just thought all of you guys captured a feel that perfectly expresses the song.
Another musical history lesson Thank you for being there and contributing to every single song you were/are involved with. I feel like I’m in the best “class” I could ever be enrolled in. I want to learn more!
My understanding of those Saturate Before Using bags was that the water would slowly evaporate, get sucked though the grill, and help keep the engine from overheating.
Beautiful song. Love the chord progression....
Looking forward to the rehearsal stuff, especially Waddy Wachtel playing guitar
Beautiful...both writing and performance. Bass is singing, itself. Thanks for sharing. Talk to you later,...I’ll try to keep it brief, i feel for you, especially on these long days. Stay safe🖕
Hi Lee. Have a good weekend.
Thanks for sharing your life with us.☮️
Jackson is my favorite. This is certainly a classic. Thanks for covering it.
