@Nick Nicholas If you watch a lot of WSL out of England and know the Matildas throughout the league, you should know they have a lot of talented and experienced players.
Having said that, Australia fielded a team against England missing 5 starters and still kept a clean sheet.
Their coach, Tony Gustavsson, was the strategic brain trust behind the USWNT winning in 2015 and 2019.
Sam Kerr and Ellie Carpenter are both top 11 world players.
Don't assume Australia is a push over side.

this is absoloutley not England with 90%. We are missing crucial players in all areas, bright in defense, Kirby in mid and hemp in foward. and we played badly this game. England can play 1000x times better than this, we were sloppy tonight. what makes you say australia was only at 50% anyway?

2:28 Can't be off side penalty because it touched another UK player before Kerr. In this case, the player in the offside position was not interfering with opponent ( UK player ) when the the UK player passed it to the goal keeper.

England impatient on Offense, same urgent passes into the Box. Australia certainly surprised here, on foreign turf. England team defense didn't show. Especially on Australia offensive attack & in quick transition. Alex Greenwood was certainly missed here on her backline & help. Replacement for Alex Greenwood; again bring on Mille Turner "Sarina"!!

Williamson was a meter from Kerr on all 3 of Kerr's goal strikes.

@@maumor2 Kerr burns a lot of defenders, her pace, timing and positioning is usually how she scores her goals. I recall her out-positioning Williamson for her headed leveller in the final minutes of their game against Arsenal. I admire Williamson too, but Kerr is a handful for most defenders.

Too early to get out of bed but saw the ending and together with highlights amazing what attacking football can achieve. Very little of the possession football Matildas have attempted lately with limited success. So good to see them attacking when they finally got some ball and 2 goals the result. In other matches whenever they reverted to possession football, few goals and more goals for the opposition. England had nearly 70% possession and lost. Must be a story here for our coaching staff. Use what ball you have to attack and stop giving opposition opportunities just holding on to possession. If you are not positive when in possession it is just wasting time.
I hope the Matildas go back to attacking football rather than possession football they are just not suited to. You saw the result of attacking football today against one of the best teams at present. Don't revert to tiddlywinks football again, stay with positive attacking football and reap the rewards.

I'm glad we lost in a friendly not in a knockout tournament football,and all good runs always comes to an end for the last two years with 4 major trophies to show for it and probably the good kick in the backside we desperately needed and once the injured players are back before the world Cup this summer the likes of millie bright,fran kirby and Alex greenwood except sadly Beth mead out definitely till the new season starts😦😧 we are still the team to beat,and I've got every confidence in this team we will deliver the holy grail the big one 💯👍👌✊️ and in sarina we trust 💯 👌 👍

Yep , woeful. England nil , Williamson 2. Out classed , out paced and out played. We were too slow , passing yet again terrible as I see so often which annoys me as this is such a good team with so much talent. I hope this is just a glitch and a wake up call to sort things out before the Word Cup run I have ultimate faith in the players and Sarina and whatever am still proud of this team.

The thing in the game for me was how things broke down for England in the final pass or shot, England had the better in midfield, but didn't do well up front.

We shouldn't expect to win every game , that would be unrealistic but this was woeful. Out classed , out played , out paced and made to look second rate and a fully deserved win for Australia.
Final score England nil , Williamson 2 ( harsh I know , mistakes happen ) but could have been more. I've said it time and time again our passing is cr*p , I see it in every game and
lets down what could be perhaps the best side in the world. Sorry Sarina but changes needed earlier at 2 nil down and little time left , giving Park 15-20 minutes might have made a difference.
We are missing Kirby badly as Chelsea are , best playmaker there is but yes we needed a wake up call and got it. We need to step up pace and passing especially , no problem with the talent available
and your coaching to date, results speak for themselves. Come the World cup maybe a different approach against this side and mind games play a part in tactical set - ups far beyond what us mere fans

@@hus390 but you can only play who’s put in front of you my point was no VAR was used or in place so may have showed Kerr to be offside as you only need your toes in front to be called and if you notice Earps has the header covered but for the deflection again I say a draw without those and I’m cheering for both teams

I could see this result comming. We played like the second half of the Brazil game. Too much lateral and back passing. And when are people going to learn to clear the ball up field away from danger.

Many opportunities for forward passes, and more direct play were missed.
100% agree. Too many coaches saw Barcelona perfect the lateral/backpass game and tried to imitate it. Without the right personnel it is a recipe for disaster.
Look at tapes and see just how many goals teams are conceding trying this possession football.
If it is in your opponents half they rarely get a scoring opportunity from that distance. Twenty metres from goal you are inviting the opposition to score if a mistake is made passing the ball laterally/back.
Some major drfensive errors there. Coach Wiegman has work to do!
Friendly or not, a loss is a loss and and the game becomes a blue print for other teams!!!!!

my only concern is that the first person looked for by the person over the ball is Kerr (at least indicated by these highlights as i didnt get to watch the whole game). Obviously she is world class but it could become too predictable and if teams do well at shutting her down, we need to make sure our other options are used

@@richardl772 oh I don’t disagree, I think the rest of our attack are excellent. I more meant that there are games where even when Kerr is being shut down, and double teamed, the person with the ball still tries to go to her expecting some Kerr magic. Instead of using the other very capable options. Like I think the best games from the Matildas has been when Kerr isn’t relied upon but instead it is a full team effort
Spot on. The way Kerr has been playing with Chelsea has allowed her to distribute responsibility a lot more. Foord is in red hot form and the way those two have been combining in recent games is almost like Kirby/Kerr. Speed up the wings with Vine and Carpenter, control in the midfield with Gorry and CooneyX. The more teams focus on Kerr the more the rest of the forwards - Foord, Fowler, Raso and midfielders will score. The more they score the more it frees up Kerr. Win win.
