- This week tidying up of the stone doorways that were created continues, I get some plumbing installed and the concrete floor gets laid. It's starting to look like a house you could live in.

Portuguese people are also Europeans. Portugal is in Europe. So when the old Portuguese people in your village will be gone, the village new habitants will be a mix of locals and foreigners.

Many jong Portuguese people are working where they can urn money but they will come back to their home country later in there life.
The floor looks great. your garden is sure taking shape. the tulips are beautiful. I live in a small village in Italy and the population is similar to your region. Interesting to imagine what it will be like in 20 more years. There are only about 2000 people in this village. It really is starting to look like a home. Your ideas are great for your home. The floor looks great!! Everything‘s coming along nicely. I love seeing all the beautiful flowers and the garden. And I like your idea of doing a wattle natural fence. You should check with your neighbors since it’s pruning time maybe they’ll let you take away some of their prune limbs, so that it will give you enough material to work with, I’m sure they’ll be happy to let you take it off their hands!❤ Great progress!

I remember seeing your house when it fir0st came on the market and thought what a beauty for someone. Yes Luisa, spending time in the garden is what keeps me sane. Everyday I see the change in the house and I am loving seeing it slowly transform into my home 💕

You must be very excited to see such a transformation to your lovely home, it's certainly coming along at a fast pace. I loved your reflection on how different the world will be in 42 years from now and how lovely it will be for you in years to come to look back and remember that old man riding past your home on his donkey and the elderly couple on their tractor when those things are no longer here. Looking good Suzi and guess what its dry and sunny in the UK, house is coming along nicely now floor is down. Sure the grounds will start looking good now you have had rain and sun looking forward to a good veg crop. I like the weekly UA-cam report on progress keep them coming. Fighting off massive house developments in Bolney right now, just love your rural location looks so great all that peace and quiet.

Things are progressing, glad you're happy with it all.
I'm surprised you've only just realised it's mainly the older local folk still living in the countryside, the young have left years ago for many reasons. Hopefully the people coming in from all over the world to buy up the old farms & houses will learn how to care for the land & treat it with respect & learn the language so they can communicate with the older generation still living there as they can teach them so much about the way things are in Portugal.
The thought of living to 100 fills me with horror, I'm older than you but have no wish to be alive at that age regardless of my health!

Hi Annie, it’s great to see that the people buying the ruins and land are people with a kindred spirit as me. Certainly where I live. People who want to live a happier simple life away from the rat race of life and who want to rebuild in a sustainable way and caretake the land. The local Portuguese are welcoming, generous and kind and are very happy to stand and talk in Portuguese. It’s also great to see that the ex-pats that live here all can speak Portuguese.

Oh Suzi, it‘s really coming along now and it‘s going to be amazing! I‘m so jealous. 😂 Did you get a permission from the camara for the door opening? And if yes, did it take a long time to get it? I‘m currently living in Switzerland with my portugiese boyfriend and we hope to move to central Portugal within the next 8 years. I hope we can find a great place just like yours.. That’s the first thing that came to my mind when she made that statement. Has far as I know Portugal has always been part of Europe.

I actually meant non Portuguese Europeans 😅 Sometimes when you make live videos you don’t always find the right words exactly in the moment. But Portugal is definitely still part of Europe 😀

Hey Suzi. Great to see such progress, how exciting to be involved in that project. Just a thought....id be interested to know if you considered installing underfloor heating at any point. I know you wont need it for many months of the year but i have heard you mention that being in the mountains it is still very chilly nov to march? How will your stone house be heated? Looking forward to next weeks catch up
Hi Michelle, underfloor heating is not really a thing here in Portugal. The house will be heated by a high output woodburner. Sadly by the time it’s installed I don’t think there will be a need for it.
Are you not putting flooring on top of the concrete which will bring the floor up to the door step

I was lucky to find a construction company that is run by an English person but employs local Portuguese and English people. It seems to work well 😀

How super your house is looking...don't forget that instead of tiles, perhaps for your other outside rooms, terracotta powder added to cement mix and smoothed off gives a great floor. Lots of colour choices available. I did this in my stable barn convert. Saved on tiles and it looked warm and lovely. Builder added it to cement mix. Didn't make it dark, just perfect. Kelim rugs...done. A blue Lupin! Soo good for soil to let it seed...and your sweet tulips..💐oh dear, Kitty must be Soo perplexed..who is yappy dog, now what? What a lovely walk..will be nice to see the village some time. March is going to be busy as reno is finished, and Summer garden prep starting.Useful "lean to" potting shed at entrance to dry out wood,etc Idea....
