I like how the constantly repeating “Buy them all!” implies that DK was originally going to legally purchase every Mini Mario he could get his hands on. But because the one toy store was sold out he just resorts to robbery instead.
Some of the charm that came with all of the various lines Mario said to DK in the original version of this is missing though, like “no you don’t, no you don’t” and “get back here you big-a monkey”! It just feels empty without them.
Unless they change it I think Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD will also probably have Charles Martinet too, and I guess Thousand Year Door too but obviously that’s only small grunts, after that though, might be the end of Charles archival voices.
I love that this remake is keeping the original voice lines from the original game. Most people would call that cheap and lazy, but the original game had some of Martinet’s best material and I can’t wait to hear it all fully decompressed.
They unfortunately didn’t keep all of the voice lines from Mario. Hopefully they might be moved to later points in the game and not all be fully removed but if they are just gone then it just gives a reason to return to the original alongside also playing the remake

I love how the audio stays faithful to the original, especially with the original voice clips, while only making changes for consistency. For example, DK doesn't say "Hey, cool!" and only makes ape noises. I do hope Mario's Italian babbling wasn't removed from the opening cutscene, though. I thought it was charming.
I believe in the original game, DK's voice clips were taken from Donkey Kong 64, where he was voiced by Grant Kirkhope. This remake uses his more modern voice actor.

I still think Wish looks really good. It's just that the animation was made to be presented on a movie screen, not a TV screen. The watercolor effect looks pretty good, and I can't find anything bad about it.

I kind of overlooked this game because it came out around a time I was too young to actually play the original myself. Seeing this cutscene fully animated is really cool. And I love hearing the famous arcade jingle as well.
I don’t understand how people aren’t understanding why Mario isn’t saying the original voice lines anymore, this was a project that was most likely started just before Martinet’s retirement from the role of Mario, so they kept Martinet’s voice but couldn’t record any new lines, so they’re just cycling through Wii U era Mario voice lines for this remake, a bummer for sure, but understandable given the circumstances
This makes me wish there was an animated series, in this 3D style, about the Mario universe. Every episode could be a slice of life adventure, man that'd be awesome :')

Just realized I heard “The Final Final Battle” theme during DK’s tv channel shifting.
