kind of ingenious. I never understood why Zippo never sold/made something like this standard
Many people have asked that over the years but they just have no need to make the zippo better, the same design has been around since 1932 with only minor changes I would love to see the classic zippo design stay the same BUT I wish they had a factory version similar to this with a sealed bottom of the insert and a fill area with a screw and o-ring to keep it sealed maybe sold as a special version or something they can make a KILLING if they did that even if they were $50 each they would sell...Even at $100 each plenty of collectors and some users would still buy one, haha
cutlerylover I would buy one just for the functionality. I am by no means a collector of zippos(I have a handful), but I personally prefer them over other lighters. Whether it’s the heritage, the ability to service them, or just the sound I love it! Hell, I’m not even a smoker besides the one or two cigars a month.
@@Johnny2Gats Many reasons to enjoy a Zippo )
Cause it's not original
Its not original and also it kinda forces you to buy/use more fluid.
I'm glad they have aftermarket accessories for Zippos yet they keep their originality and let the customer decide what they want. I love their simplicity and durability. Tip: you can keep flints under the felt pad as well 😉👍
better still keep the flint there but if you have one of those tiny aftershave sample bottles , you can keep some extra fuel in there too :)
How do you tell someone is a zippo lighter user?
They smell like gas and are asking you for a light
I have learned to always carry a backup bic if my zippo lets me down...
lol ,veteran zippo user will have spare plastic lighter
I have a keychain canister for some quick recharge. If you use your Zippo correctly(meaning not playing with it constantly), one fill will last you a week. Plus the little canister where you have 3/4 of a full recharge, people are asking ME for a light. For ten long ass years i have been a reliable source of ignition. Zippo all the way.
PS. WAAAAAY too much fluid in the video...
@@Juniek100 tooo much liquid Forsure, supposed to wait for it to drip down the wick then stop. Dude prolly smells like fluid all day every day😂 I keep mine with about half the amount of that and don’t even smoke..vape now but still love my zippo.. and I don’t smell like smoke or gas cuz I don’t act like this guy😂
@@Juniek100but playing with it constantly is just too fun :(
Two things:
You're WAY overfilling your Zippo. You need to stop before you see saturation in the cotton. If you do this and have it in your pocket, it will leak and leave you with a rash on your leg.
I would guess you're supposed to remove the felt pad at the bottom and replace it with the gasket. By packing it on top of the felt, you're squeezing the cotton below and essentially wringing it out, making the lighter hold less fluid.
i always filled my zippo till it ran out the wick not a big deal just light the lighter to burn off the excess I never had a rash from the fluid
I figured that when I saw the fill hole.
At the 5 minutes marks he also states he overfilled them. I believe he did it on purpose to prove the point of "Does the gasket hold the fluid "
Jeff Khoury want me to hold your purse
Jeff Khoury What do you mean by saturation in the cotton?
That's a comically large amount of lighter fluid.
especially for it just to evaporate
"ThE mOrE tHe MaRrIeR"
@@dozi3r that's why he's showing the product id say (evaporation )
that's how you fill a Zippo lol you're supposed to saturate the rayon so it lasts longer....
@@gunfuegosaturate, not drown.
I bet there will still be a small amount of evaporation through the wick end
Dood Bro it’s not meant to stop it completely, just prolong the process versus having no seal plate at all.
There was a guy who used old used bicycle intertubes for this to make a tight seal around the entire case when not in use. Im guessing the bottom plate leaks a bit due to the door it needed a screw in plug and as for sealing the whole thing well they aint like the peanut lighters and so they actually need an airproof case to fit around them ideally
Yes, even a 1920s style oil lamp will run dry just through evaporation from the wick alone within maybe a month.
@@edi9892 yep your right thats why alot of peanut lighters encapsulate the entire thing air tight. Due the tiny bit they can hold is what they intend to keep till ya use it. you can get sevral short burns out of one fill however its not an ideal lighter for most people. Its an emergency lighter that works in cold conditions where a bic won't work without a few tricks to heat it up due to the nature of liquid butane speaking of encapsulated lighters they got a forever match that works on the same idea . zippo is cool for those who use a lighter alot tough some people dont like the fuel taste everything has its highs and lows a propper sized elastic band around the seam of the zippo is the best your gona do for a classic Zippo unless you do the butane retrofit
Probably
I like this video and it's very interesting . Where the evaporation of the fuel occurs is the seam where the lid meets the body . Common bicycle inner tube works GREAT and Ronsinol fluid is superior to Zippo fluid . An eye dropper bottle holds enough fluid for at least 4 refills . Old Army Ranger . ATB
When I smoked I loved Zippos!
biggest problem for me with leakage in my pocket I would smell like lighter fluid and my leg would get a rash.
@yan chang lol yup
I've never had a problem with leakage.
*Zippo Butane Gas Lighter/ Zippo Arc Lighter = NO PROBLEM*
Jason Abbott just put less lighter fluid if the cotton looks wet then you put to much
Probably because u over filled
Ya I carry one in my edc bag and same story every time I needed it was dry. So I bought a butane insert and never looked back
I use a Zippo daily and it works well for it's intended purpose. Evaporation is a issue for those that don't actually smoke. Granted the Zippo is a high maintenance device needing refueling every other day, wick pulled about 2 weeks and wick replaced 1.5 months. Lighting requires an up/down motion because of the nature of fuel/gas.
A plug/gasket will lessen the flame to the point of not being wind proof. More complication makes for more issues down the road. Simply put the Zippo is a good lighter for it's intended purpose.
Some fuel will still escape from the wick end but they do decrease fuel evaporation so you will be able to go a little longer between refuelings. Love your channel bro.
Just what I was thinking.
True story: while in the Navy as a flightline crew, one guy was bragging on his new Zippo. After a week came time to refill we all told him the JP-5 we took from the planes for fuel samples was a great replacement. He left it in the lineshack and we filled it everyday without him knowing. For several weeks. After he finally commented it seemed to never run out and how happy he was, we started emptying it especially if he refilled it. For him it never worked got so pissed he gave it away. 🤭
I had a buddy that did the same thing to a coworkers car
My old man always kept an extra flint in the spring area.
😱 You mean I might actually be able to use the Zippo as an everyday lighter? I love mine, except for the fact that I fill it up and it’s out of fuel within a day, regardless of whether I even use it.
It usually just evaporates in a tropical climate, fully saturated (some pouring out upon refill at the bottom, even) in just 4 days. I wish Zippo would fix this almost 100 year evaporation problem and update their design.
I had to buy a pack of these 3 gaskets which has Zorro cotton + wick + 30 flints bundled (I something just like to make this spark for stress relieve- light or spark or fire is soothing).
God bless.
I carry Zippo lighters, despite having quit smoking (except while drinking beer on Fridays) a few years back. I keep a regular Zippo insert with extra flint and a can of fluid in the house and all my vehicles, travel and camping bags, and so on for backup, but switched to butane torch-style inserts for general use, mostly because of fuel evaporation. Interesting...
Though it's a neat idea, I don't have high hopes for it. It may reduce the rate at which the fluid evaporates by sealing up the bottom, but the fluid will still evaporate through the wick. In fact, I'd say most lf the evaporation happens through the wick. The fuel might last longer, but I'm not counting on the difference being large enough to be worth the purchase.
I have multiple flints and a extra wick inside my zippo. Nice product.
The best thing I've found for my Zippo lighter was a butane insert. I hate the taste of lighter fluid and this butane insert solves that. Got mine on Amazon
Practical , but takes away the originality of the zippo feel , fueling up , changing flints is all part of the zippo experience :)
Gotta zippo. Haven't had any problems. Thought about getting the gasket. But I mean it's gunna evaporate, the fuel isn't expensive, and my lighter always clicks over for me. It seems like a nice idea, but I feel zippo did a great job as is.
I just bought a brand new Zippo in the last year or so and I've been pretty disappointed how shoddy they're making the insides now. The cotton batting used to FILL UP the tank to the point that the absorbent end-pad just barely fit back in. Now there's a solid quarter inch of extra space at the end... this video just educated me as to why. Apparently Zippo is manufacturing their lighter to take this evapo-trapper device without making it such a tight fit.
Makes me wonder why they don't just create it themselves... They'd probably sell a lot more lighters lol.
@@Camelotsmoon Because Zippo wants you using more fuel. I bet Zippo makes more money on fuel than lighters.
Nice experiment, I can't wait to see the results!
In my experience, after completely filling a Zippo with fluid, it takes about a week for the fluid to completely evaporate. This is if you just let the lighter sit there with absolutely no usage. My Zippo now has a Zippo branded butane insert that doesn't allow fluid evaporation.
I never really had an issue with the evaporation. I carry a Zippo as my main lighter and use it for most things I need a lighter for and I carry a Bic as a backup in case my Zippo runs dry or to let other people use it in case they either don't like the smell of a Zippo or they decide to walk off with my lighter.
Yo, you're supposed to take the felt pad out and discard it. That's why you had to force the orange rubber plug in. The way he did it the fluid won't absorb as well. The flint hold down screw was not seated properly. I'm surprised no one caught that.
Yeah, I was wondering why he left the felt pad in. It had looked like he may have punches a hole through it or something.
That's an interesting experiment and possible solution. I am wondering how much fuel/air transfer happens through the wick and the lid, and why Zippo has never corrected the problem (because they sell the fuel?),
05generic there probably is no fix. Other than their new butane insert
You Can Also zeal the case with a piece of rubber from a bicycle, it keeps most air from leaking into the case.
I use both. Zippos last about a week and a half. Still sucks. I just bought a gallon of white gas and fill it up every week.
I've never had a problem with the fuel in my older zippos I've had in the past evaporating. It's only been a couple of newer ones I've received as gifts that have been doing that.
I feel like it evaporates from the top not the bottom... good idea though
It does threw both the zippo just doesn't perfectly seal anywhere . they could up their game with some well placed o ring groves with o rings . may not sound like rocket science but apparently it is.
@Bobo yes thats why they worked so hard at makeing it the only airline aproved lighter and fuel still they have other sellers of naptha fuel
@Bobo now that is the cold hard truth...accept it people.
Cut a piece of bicycle inner tube and place it over the outside of the Zippo. Roll the inner tube down when you need to use the lighter. Roll it back up when you are done. Mine keeps the fluid for about a month that way. (Even out here in the dry higher altitude of the Rocky Mountain States.)
Eric White you’re an idiot. Other gases don’t work the same as the liquid fuel does.
At altitude or in freezing temperatures propane and butane stop working.
Zippos and MSR gas stoves are the only sources of fuel that are used on Mount Everest summits.
I have a Douglas field lighter which solved this and has a spare sealed container of fuel built in. Check it out, you can let it sit for years and get it started right away
Ive used the ranger band method and it held for a month but for an everyday use option this seems as a better option
Great video thanks for sharing but I would never tighten with a screwdriver finger tighten only those threads will strip out.
Agree. Also, use the case or lid if you must.
these are sold on ebay as "kerosene lighter gasket" for 3-4 $
btw can you insead weight the 2 zippos with a precision scale? it would give more accurate results
Mustang Rt I like that idea

hey cutlery I'm an old fan from like 7 years ago I used to love your Zippo videos, thanks for making vids and congrats on the sub count
I think it will still evaporate out the top where the wick is, you might get a bit longer out of the one with the gasket tho but i still think it will evaporate, just a little slower 👍🏴
yes very possible/probable , Im curious if this does extend the life of the fuel or not, well see...It might show how much fuel is evaporated through the insert base and out the case as apposed to through the wick....
Yeh id say you will get a little longer out the one with the gasket, it will be interesting to see the difference, to be honest i think you will lose about 75% of what evaporates just out the top tho, hope to see a update
Bought and use these. Not a fantastic product but my lighter does hold fuel for about an extra 3-4 days making this product worth it in my personal non professional opinion.
Have you tried the gas powered inserts you can buy on amazon. They basically turn your zippos into bics. I think they're called thunder something. They are a bit expensive though.
@@sirnuggets9666 Never heard of it. I'll check it out though.
@@willywood6508 found it, its called the thunderbird its on amazon look it up
Best. Video. Ever. I've never smoked, but have always loved Zippo lighters. I stopped carrying them when one leaked fuel inside my pocket and onto my thigh, giving me a nice chemical burn. If this thing can keep the fuel in, then yee ha!!
overfilled :)
I use a piece of bicycle inner-tube around where the lid and body meet works great.
Jeff, along time ago, you reviewed the plasmatic zippo style. Which instantly caused me to purchase one so i could use the insert in my zippo. At the time i was just getting into collecting, and i have an okay collection now. mainly of rare numbered ones. but the zippo i used this in was my grandads harley zippo, i believe from the 70s, i cant quite remember. This is because it was stolen along with the insert. My grandad now has dementia, and can just about remember me, but i always make sure to bring zippos to show him. and i was wondering if you still had the plasmatic insert, and if youd be willing to sell it as he always found it interesting, and he was the first person i showed it to too. so im hoping it might spark some memory, alike the zippos do.
Thank you

I think it may slow the evaporation of the fuel, but the wick still allows vapors to escape. However, it may very well be an improvement!
Most of the fuel is lost through the wick anyway. Bottom is actualy sealed quite well as it is, you even hear the "pop" when you pull it out. So i call BS, this gadget will not help at all.
I've once wrapped the zippo with electrical tape around the hinge and seam where it opens. and i was able to light it after several months when i unwrapped it. But most of the fuel was gone anyway. I beleive if you can find zippo-style lighter which has screw-on cap with o-ring, it will work for much longer time, but it will be awkward to use.
@@harviecz older zippos don’t have that *pop* as they are worn down, so they’d leak more from the bottom than a brand new one
Offhand this seems like a good idea, there's nothing wrong with trying to make the most out of your fuel. I've come at this problem from another angle, I use inexpensive naptha gas in my Zippo, I bought a gallon of Brand X camp stove fuel years ago for about 10 bucks and I'm still using that same gallon, so fuel economy isn't an issue, cost-wise, but there's still nothing wrong with trying to maximize your fuel economy.
An innovative idea but the band around the two sections is the answer. It might be a good test to add that option into your experiment.
I always carry my Zippo but hate that the evaporating naphtha irritated my skin and had to refill after a couple of weeks. I bought a Butane insert for the Zippo case and now can carry it for months with no irritation and no loss of fuel. The butane insert always lights.
So what was the result? I'm interested as I bought these gaskets also.
It looks like he ultimately used different Zippos in test, but here is a follow up: ua-cam.com/video/DfLx2PTiK24/v-deo.html
Or buy a clipper liquid fuel lighter, they got o rings where you need them as standard.
I live in a tent full time, and having a reliable lighter is, as you'd expect, important.
You live in a tent? Please make videos documenting this
I love Zippos, and have one for around the house, for when we do campfires in our backyard, but unfortunately this is a serious flaw. For those of us who do winter activities like camping, this problem is a very big deal.
Just bring some fluid with you
Do you know that lighter fluid, is Naphtha thinner? It is a LOT cheaper by the gal.
Prolly not nearly as easy to fill a zippo with tho, but I might check it out.
Refill your lighter fluid bottle???????????? Then Fill The Lighter!
Coleman fuel works good too.
@Bobo I use petrol in my peanut. A friend of mine who is a smoker and has a zippo, fills his up with avgas from the little glass bowl under the wing of a cessna (it's there to let the water out).
Uras Tus 😂 not sure avgas is a good idea. Avgas is also known as 100LL, and ‘LL’ stands for low-lead. So it’s essentially high-octane, leaded petrol. Not something you really want to breathe in 😬
Oh. Nice to know I'm not the only one who has evaporation problems. I never even thought to look into it until this showed up in my Recommendations.
So what’s the result?
As a non smoker this always annoyed me I liked having my Zippo for what if cases and the fuel would always evaporate. I like have a Zippo because of its wind resistance and what I thought was reliability but I guess if you're not an everyday user it's not a sensible choice
Well a standard zippo in standard case lasts 8 days however a standard zippo insert in a sealed case can last for weeks like a Thyrm PyroVault Lighter Armor was tested for 8 weeks they say and still lit its the cheaper of the o ring gasketed cases ive seen so far they do make a war armor case in 1.4mm titanium but its pricy and yea i see why zippo doesn't sell propper cases they cost as much as a lighter it makes your 20$ lighter into a 50$ lighter or if ya go crazy and spring for highend titanium well it might be almost a 200$ lighter at that point
@@ericwhite3526 :- I bought one of the Zippo factory butane jet flame lighters (about $100.00) and it broke down, after a month or so of lighting the occasional cigar. Sent it back to Zippo (life time warranty) and it came back working just fine, but the problem apparently is in the design, and Zippo discontinued the manufacturing of that lighter.
I don't carry it...not dependable...a simple $2.00 jet flame from the local smoker's shop is a better bet (I don't smoke anymore) for a "just in case" lighter.
@@blueeyeswhitedragon9839 yep thats true bic and butane lighters awsome unless its realy cold. I've had them not work on hunting trips granted you can temporarily warm them up enough to get a fire going the neat things about the traditional zippo is the naptha it works cold, it stays lit and the hand full of fidget tricks you can do with it . Down sides the fuel on a standard one is typically gone in 8 days regardless of use and well the issues you have when you over fill it. But nothing perfect
I think a gaskets would be the standard for this type of Zippo if they just had a bigger hole, like as big as possible so it takes the least amount of time to fill. In fact they could just remove that flint hole since you can already put flint in the cotton. But the price is certainly right, you get a few for around $6 or more.
Since i switch to permanent matches, i’m rid of this problem too. I know it’s about Zippo but its 25 years to late for me. Thanks anyway. I leave a like.
WTF is a permanent match?
Not bad, but better create a gasket for the parts above. Much fuel seems imho evaporate over the wick anyways so the lid is more important but of course much more difficult.
Still a nice idea though, especially the flint storage.
You are supposed to remove the felt insert when putting the rubber insert in its place
Interesting idea. I winder about the evaporation from the wick, though. I’ve toyed with the idea of using an Amish mix in my Zippo. Rather than 100% naphtha, which is as light as gasoline and evaporates just as fast, mixing the naphtha with kerosene. The naphtha would make it light quickly, but the kerosene evaporates much more slowly.
كم نسبة الخلط اخي ؟
How did that work out bro just got a few zippos and was wondering about this to
Zippos are cool, but a BIC is more practical for EDC. Light weight, compact and already designed for safe inexpensive pocket carry. If you use a white one you can see the fuel level..
Neal Valero maybe I’m just being superstitious however I refuse to carry or use a white bic lighter due to them being bad luck
Yeah, plastics better.
@@smokeshowwalrus3478 I'm not superstitious...who needs more rules.
I think you would have to remove the rayon base pad to use the fill port on the device.
I was going to say the same thing.
the pad has that little hole you can stick the nozzle of the fuel bottle into.
27dcx the hole is to store an extra flint not for filling
Damn if those work that should be a default inclution on all zippo lighters. Love the spare flint cubby
Same wick in mine for the last 30 years and it works fine.
Nice test one of the reasons I don't have any Zippos
Is there a follow up of this video? I’m curious to see the results. :)
It looks like he ultimately used different Zippos, but here is a follow up: ua-cam.com/video/DfLx2PTiK24/v-deo.html
I just saw they make a butane insert and an electric arc insert for Zippo bodies now
Not sure about the arc but the butane I have is a single torch. It throws a fit from time to time and doesn't light. It's better to use than a regular zippo if you're using them for smoking one hitters for sure
I have a few of the butane insert ones. The company that makes them has horrible quality control
I, too, have been frustrated w/the fuel evap. I don't smoke so even though edc it's not for that purpose. That said, I don't have occasions to use it much but still carry it in a great leather belt holder. By using a ranger band I can extend the time to empty by about half. The test I would love to see you do is fill both and never use. Just test it every (name a day of the week) week and see how many weeks you can go before dry. Test would be to just see if it ignites. Don't need the 60 second burn for my purposes (or yours) as you stated you don't use it everyday anyway so i assume you don't smoke and light up 10 or more times a day. To truly test for the evaporation aspect....I think you should only light it to see if it will light. If you keep it going for 60 sec. it kind of defeats the purpose of an evap. test? Thanks! and I agree the extra spot for the flint is great.
Definitely let us know if it works. I really wanna carry a zippo with my edc. If the gasket doesn’t work then I may try that Thunderbird insert. Have you reviewed the Thunderbird insert?
He has some older videos on them I believe. The fuel in those lasts indefinitely and i think is a much-needed upgrade. My Zippo keeps fuel for months until it runs out from me playing with it, haha.
I don't have Thunderbird brand but I use a double jet in an Armor series case for edc and its been excellent. They don't always fit perfectly depending on brand and quality but they're reliable and don't run out
I got a monogrammed slim series at my best friends wedding and I'd kill for a gasket or an insert for it
Darth Croll Ok, thanks for letting me know. I saw nick shabazz’ review on the Thunderbird insert, but I’ll watch his video as well.
Josh Rowlison It’s butane fueled?
Bro, seriously?? No link to the follow up nothing? Wtf man
Also taking a bicycle inner tube cutting it and putting it over the lid and the body not only makes it waterproof but evaporation proof so it keeps your wick dry and everything else and the lid from accidentally opening cheaper more effective but thank you propose in this video as that's a pretty amazing topic and product as well
Except that for us smokers you’d have to take the darn thing off every time you light up but great idea for people that uses it sporadically. I think.
Did you ever end up giving us an update on these?
A genuine zippo lighter fits very snugly in its shell. I doubt this'll make a big difference to the rate of evaporation, especially as the top side isn't sealed. I think the thing that'll make the biggest difference is to not keep it in a pocket close to your body so it isn't heated. That's my prediction. Now I need to find the results of your experiment.
I think I’d be tempted to take out the wad of heavy cotton so it doesn’t squish out the extra Reserve fuel. So ...in other words...replace the heavy cotton wad with the rubber plug.
Krepky Grimes thats what I would think you’d do
It would piss out of the wick
You'll never seal it completely, and you wouldn't want to. The fuel vapor expands with fairly decent pressure once a little heat is added. If you leave a can of Zippo fluid in the sun, it will bulge and distort the can badly. Putting it in your pocket isn't as bad, but I don't think you're going to stop the vapor pressure of fuel evaporation so easily. I suspect that it will just force the vapors out via the wick.
That's neat I'd like to see how long it lasts too since i don't smoke
best way to prevent fuel evaporation is to cut up the thumb off of a nitrile glove so you have a 1-1.5" sleeve. slip that over the zippo case and roll it down to use and roll back up to seal. the fuel lasts for weeks, and i use the lighter multiple times a day to light my tobacco pipes. another benefit is it will help lessen the scratches to the zippo if you keep it in your pocket with other things like keys or loose change.
I stick the nossle into tnt hole of the pad and fill mine that way. It's easier than lifting it to me. I'm just happy that I finally got to use mine after roughly 4 months
Just got mine today.
Haven't had time to see fuel consumption comparison.
However, did find that in a Zippo insert, it's a tight fit. It will fit in a Japan Continental/LDL model, not as tight of fit due to more rounded style but will seal enough to keep fluid from going to the bottom of the case. For those with that question.
any update?
I don't smoke but I believe in always have one or two sources of fire on me and they do come in handy more than folks who don't carry a fire source might realize. I like flipping open a Zippo but as a non-smoker who just wants the fire to be there if I need it I am annoyed with the rapid fuel loss of Zippos. I found something the other day at a local Walmart (haven't seen it at all local Wally locations, just the one) that I like. It looks like a small Zippo body complete with the lid, etc. but inside it is house a mini Bic lighter. When I need to refill I will just replace the mini Bic. Not only does it have at least some portion of the 'cool' factor of a Zippo but it also solves a couple of the problems sometimes inherent in Bic lighters. Because it is enclosed the fuel button cannot be accidentally depressed allowing the fuel to leak out and there is less chance of the striker wheel or flint being wet and not sparking when I need it. I also carry a small peanut lighter on my keychain. It uses the same fluid as a Zippo and is filled in a similar manner. However, I haven't filled it in six or eight months. I just checked to be sure before I posted this and it lit right up.
Wrapping a bit of Teflon tape around the end of the lighter (the side with the cotton) works great for me
I love the concept. Ill have try the gasket with with a ranger band. Itll probably still evaporare but take a lot longer.
They make some really cool zippo logo plastic flames that fit right where the wick goes.
This is a great thing, if it does work. There is also a butaine insert I have found online, that fits in the zippo casing, that I got and use. The butaine does last quite a long time too. If this gasket does work, I may switch back to the lighter fluid insert. Thanks for this video.
Interesting little tidbit, the 1935 zippo replicas use a slightly different insert, both aesthetically and in size, I tried putting one of those thunderbird butane inserts in mine and it's just a smidge too tall, same with a regular zippo insert.
So did it work?
I stash my extra flints under the felt pad I’m curious too good idea I always thought zippos lost vapor through the lid cause the lids aren’t air tight
just a thought. you could put the inserts on a scale and tare. fill with same ammount of fluid. weigh in housing full, and just weigh daily to see which goes empty first.
Get a Thunderbird butane inserts I can fill my Zippo stick it in a pack and it will light every time no leaks
regular ass mike right up until you go to altitude or very cold as the butane won’t work as reliability.
@@btuthill9653 truth.. I found that out with a butane lighter while winter camping. Had to break out the uco storm proof matches. They will burn underwear.
I used to pack about twice as much cotton in the fuel reservoir as it came with. I didnt have to fill it nearly as often.
AND of cause not available in Europe. I suppose I could just make one myself by cutting it out of a sheet of rubber? No trap-door though... I still suspect the fuel mainly escapes through the wick rather than the bottom of the case, but it will be interesting to see how much this extends the lifetime of the fuel.
Something about the smell of a fresh Marlboro lite with my zippo lighter back in the day. A distinct smell, that you never forget. I quit 31 yr ago.
cool!! how come no one has thought of this before also the since word you were looking for is control .
Does anybody used it? Helps?
one time i wrapped electrical tape around a zippo where the lid means the bottom. It still evaporated. Although it may have been close to empty when i wrapped it. I hear a snug fitting ranger band around the lid gap helps.
YES
I thought it, we've all thought it but someone finally did it.
That's pretty kool, if it actually shows significant lack of fuel evaporation I might have to get some
Subbed. I periodically buy myself a zippo and even gave one away in the box to a good friend as a bday gift (everyone loves them, makes a great gift) so anyway, in my collection, I have old ones, new ones etc the new ones have that little hole in the bottom of the cotton that old ones didn't have and I know from experience that little hole contributes to fuel evaporation, all my new ones run out faster (when not using)
Haha this is why I prefer the old "ronson standard" lighters instead. Tight cap over the wick fill hole sealed with a cap that screws on. Lasts way longer than any zippo I own in terms of keeping fuel without use.
Take the RAYON OUT and replace withPETROLEUM COTTON MJX.Its last longer,Rayon does not absorb .Rayon isn't absorbent as Cotton is.
The sick should be changed out and triple twisted with hemp.
Lasts a bit longer.
Hope this helps
What was the final result of this experiment?
Still waiting for your answer...
Wow six months later still waiting. I guess they work
@@cocapipimonster76 lol I guess so
He re did the test : ua-cam.com/video/UoDoz2vH6Sk/v-deo.html
You sound like Devin Stack from the channel Black Pilled.
So whats the verdict? B4 i buym 🤷🏼♂️🥃
If you'll notice in the cover photo to the right of the insert where the metal side's come together it doesn't seal because of the two layers comeing together right there create a gap!!!!
good or not ?
