I love your perfume passion Dacob! I think every Shalimar formulation/strength, EVERY iteration is a beauty. Also, the infamous flankers: the Ode a la Vanilles (sigh), the soufflé flanker, the parfum initial flanker (and it’s flankers!)…. All so beautiful! I hope Guerlain keeps Shalimar as it is.

Shalimar parfum is absolutely beautiful. I have the modern and the vintage from the 50’s I purchased from a collector. Both smell absolutely beautiful. They are very similar. However, in the vintage, the civet calms the powderiness down and balances it more with the Smokey vanilla and the spice. The civet also makes it smell a bit more mature which I like. Both modern and vintage smell almost identical. I give credit to Guerlain and any other perfume company that created a fragrance decades ago, still sell it, reformulated the fragrance over time and still managed to keep it smelling similar to the original. Love Shalimar.

Lovely review thank you Dacob 🙏🏻 I’ve been in love with Shalimar since 1981. Had a 7.5ml extrait de parfum bottle, which is empty but I treasure it, so beautiful. Back then it was packaged in a purple velveted box. I don’t have the little tasse anymore… Also still have the eau de toilette from 1985, which I still use from time to time. It’s still excellent and lasts and lasts on my skin! Recently I got the new limited Millesime Vanilla Planifolia. Opening is less sharp, more vanillic, also a work of fragrance art and lovely, but, to my nose on my skin at least, lasting a lot shorter, unfortunately. Le Lion to me still has the power I would have liked the new Shalimar to have ❤️ Coromandel same thing: powerful juice! Looking forward to your review of Le Lion!

This is an absolutely stunning story and review. It really makes sense to me. My Mimi (maternal grandmother) wore Shalimar, and my mom has her little 1/4 oz beauty of a bottle which has maybe two drops in it. I know she will never use, but will just open it, and have that scent memory of her mom. So I wanted one of my own, for the same reason, and to be able to wear what Mimi wore. I found a 1/4 oz bottle recently for about 48.00. Had to snag it. Anxiously awaiting its arrival. Thank you again, Dacob. These reviews are always just such a joy.

I love the story behind this perfume, it intrigued my interest in finding a vintage. When I first tried this, I recoiled in horror, then, it became love. Strange, intriguing and ever changing on the skin. I have two 1/4 oz pure perfume extraits from 1967. It says it on the back of the box, the Baccarat bottle says Parfum N°7091 and the long rigid bottle is N0. 7090 says extrait and has a price tag of $13.50. They came in a velvety purple box and the outer box is white with black rigid stripes. I opened the long bottle because I wanted to know what is smelled like, it was heavenly. I've had them for quite some time now and now with your review, I dabbed some on again and it's a bit oily and lemony, I'm sure it will change as the day goes on. Would these have Ambergris in them since they are both from 1967? I also have one in .25 oz parfume from 2006 or 07. Love the cologne version btw very refreshing and got compliments.🥰

Lovely! I have never smelled the new extrait (I'm so curious now!) but do wear a vintage bottle (velvet marley horse box), which I adore and wear at home or to bed. I would love to do (or hear/see, hint hint) a side by side comparison one day. I get a slight and pleasant rubber/gas/oil/leather in the opening and it's a bit skanky in the good way. After a while, it settles into such breathtaking, deep, soulful, vanilla...well, only Dacob could find the words to do her justice. :) Hooray for Shalimar extrait! Hooray for Dacob! As with No 5, it feels like wearing precious history and true art.

the way i see pure parfum/extraits (whether its a roja or a guerlain or ect.) is that when YOU want to smell the fragrance on yourself, the fragrance being thick and opulent throughout the whole day, invest in the extrait of your favorite if its availible. if you get close with a significant other, you best believe they'll smell it too.

Still 30 years ago it was easy to find them form most of the fragrances and brands, in three regular sizes (7,5 ml, 15 and 30, even 60 at Guerlain and for some Chanel). But nowadays it's all about sprays and shower gels... Time goes on, use change and so do the clients, the markets. Europe has not its prior weight... New markets count way more. I am also have such love for the elusive pure parfums, something so unique and magical about them. I so enjoyed your poetic review of this masterpiece, the back story and the olfactory experience.
I can't think of any contemporary perfumes that have that "stone" quality ( mind you, I dont go much pass Chanel, Guerlain and a few Frederic malle).
I would be interested in your thoughts ( when you have time) on Guerlain's Jicky, I do love it, though didn't always, and Guerlain's "Vetiver"- a first love in my Guerlain collection. Thanks as always!

I know they do not show any amber or civet in the description. However, like many of Guerlain's fragrances, there is a slight skank that is coming from something animalic in the opening. In the dry down, it softens and becomes like a powdery cloud that envelopes you. I disagree that it is not a beast. You do have to be careful to not over apply the pure perfume. You can always reapply, but a few drops packs a punch. I think the people that don't like it have smelled it on someone that applied too much and it was knocking people down.

I think they have one of the most elegant bottles. Shalimar is a classic beauty. Unfortunately i can not say the same about the fragrance. I have tried it on women and on myself in few occasions to convince myself that it smells nice or understand how it evolves.
Well, to me it stinks like two old paper pages glued together with an indian glue or some floor disinfectant used in church...
Nothing elegant, seductive or feminine about it. It is sour, dry, smokey and full of incense.
Yes, i have it original from Gerlain.
As i said. It is not to criticize such a historical perfume. It is only to underline how subjective the perception may be.
    Keep up the good work.

Have you smelled the parfum or are you talking about other concentrations of Shalimar? The parfum is very soft but I can see how the other concentrations could easily go in the direction you described in your comment. 💖

You are so right that Shalimar is a definite 'try before you buy.' I bought the EDP about a year ago after reminiscing about youthful times using my best friend's mother's perfume (usually with her permission). I so wish I had sprung for the pure perfume.

@superdacob Please read this for future videos. I’m just trying to help
Just so you know, ambergris would not be listed on the ingredients list because the ingredients list does NOT list the notes of the perfume.
Listing the ingredients of perfume is mandatory, as with any cosmetics per cosmetics regulations (FDA for the USA, EU directive for EU). 'Perfume' or 'fragrance' is the 'secret formula' and may be listed as such. The oakmoss extracts and other aroma chemicals listed are compounds that belong to the 26+ perfume allergen list that has been made mandatory to be listed by the EU directive. As most perfumes are either created in Europe or distributed in Europe, those ingredients must be listed. That doesn't mean that say the listed 'linalool' is per se synthetic. It may also be a constituent of bergamot or lavender essential oils used in the formula.
Shortly: it has nothing to do with IFRA, but with the EU legislation on labeling cosmetics.
If a fragrance has no listed ingredients, like Bond 9’s fragrances, then you can bet that it doesn’t contain any naturals. Therefore, when a fragrance does contain a huge list-it’s usually using more naturals with allergens.
Shalimar parfum is so well blended the synthetics are not noticeable. You must try a vintage parfum from pre 1967- it’s otherworldly.
Love the video by the way. I can’t wait to see what you think in 3 months once it macerates and becomes deeper and more resinous with deeper touches of oppoponax, civet and labadanum.

    • @essence-tiallydacob9611
      @essence-tiallydacob9611  2 роки тому

Ambergris would be listed. In fact, it is listed on other Guerlain fragrances. Just check the list on the Encens Mythique fragrance packaging ;) ambergris is clearly listed as such. Xoxo

@@essence-tiallydacob9611 Hi Dacob, thanks for the reply! So, I just looked at both of my Encens Mythique boxes-the original 2012 and the new 2018-it is not listed on either box as an ingredient/allergen. That is because it is not identified as one of the 26 allergens by the EU cosmetics regulation, and as far as I know, it is perfectly safe. Also, most of the ingredients on the list are components naturally found in various naturals.

Le Lion to me still has the power I would have liked the Shalimar to have ❤️ Coromandel same thing: powerful juice! Looking forward to your review of Le Lion!
