Thank you for this. I’ve been wearing Shalimar Eau Dr Cologne since I was around 14/15 in the late 60s and I’m 68 now. This bottle was one of the packaging selections you could purchase at that time. I still have a few bottles not opened. The eau de cologne is still being sold and smells exactly the same. I loved your description of the scent and back then it was considered a day and evening perfume. I used to spray it on everything and love how my family and kids say it’s my signature scent. You brought a smile to my heart.
I loved that you dressed up for this! This was great! Could you do a video on opulent “perfumey” perfumes? Although I love niche perfumes, I find many concentrate on one note. I love opulent smelling perfumes that I find are usually so well blended that you can’t really pick out obvious notes, end ends up smelling “perfumey”. I’m thinking of the 90s style of perfumery, or something like Chanel Coco edp.
Wow! When you were using the pliers honesty my heart was just beating faster and faster! Then when you finally popped it open my heart skipped a beat Joel! But I was as excited as you for this legendary catch. You hit a Jack pot man! I have SHALIMAR, the 90s bottle, though it doesn't project much but on a close sniff, I consider it one of the most beautiful and most complex perfumes in my collection. I treasure it. And the house of Guerlain is one of my all time favorites. SAMSARA is one of my all time favorite Fragrances too, in fact my number one. So congratulations, Joel, for your newly found treasure. Happy for you. 🌹👍
Wow Joel what a coo to your collection. I love the house of Guerlain and to me they make beautiful fragrances niche level quality at designer prices👌. That bottle and that juice represent a time when creating fragrances had no bounds or restrictions and the scent lasted longer and projected more. Great find. I was just thinking of adding Shalimar to my collection, so funny you should do this vid. What a great piece of fragrance history👏👏👏
OMG.....I have this one !!! I got it in a auction ...a "bundle" of several vintage scents. I was scared to open it !! I have the exact same bottle/box.(304) sealed bottle as well....but did not know the exact "age" of it or when it was made. So, I thought..."you only live once" so I went ahead and opened it...and >>>>WOW !!!! The scent..IMHO....is still "intact" and wonderful !!! It did take me a few minutes to remove that crystal stopper too !!! Then I prayed I would not break it !!!...lol. I have SO MANY Shalimar's in my collection...and am glad to have this vintage awesomeness !!!!
It just goes to show everybody that your fragrances will last for a long time...in the case of Joel's bottle it stayed in the box so no light got to it but it certainly evaporated a little. Now that is the biggest surprise...There still being Citrus notes...They usually go first i heard.....Because i have some old Polo green little bottles i think 44 ml bottles that sit in this case with horses being the picture on the case... that smell like Alcohol when you first put them on...they have lost there top notes....so for that to be good is very surprising...
This video is thrilling, and you couldn’t have posted it at a better time- I just purchased a pristine bottle of YSL Paris on eBay, circa 1988! I’m a little nervous to see how it’s held up over time, but something tells me it’s still a powerhouse. Enjoy your beautiful Guerlain!
Joel, this is an epic video. I would have opened it also. Almost had a "heart attack" when you opened the stopper!!!! I have yet to sample Shalimar. I do own Spiritueuse Double Vanille.

I found your video in the weirdest way. I belong to metal detecting group (all woman) and someone dug up some old bottles and marbles while detecting an old home. And I looked at her photos and immediately responded...that's a shalimar bottle! (One of them). This led me to look up vintage bottles where I was shocked to see my bottle same as yours not as old looking half used for $95.And found your video. Its hard for me to wear perfume any more....but not my shalimar....I would never part with it. I remember I sold some of my perfume since I couldn't wear most of it anymore and this lady tried to talk me down saying they had spoiled...but then mention when she sells them she doesn't let people try them on...as a lady next to was while tried to gather all my bottles...so clearly she wanted to resell them. I told her sorry no longer for sale and for her to get lost. And the gave them away for free to people who came up and clearly wanted them because they liked them (community yard sale).... anyway I'm glad to hear your shalimar, as mine, is not "spoiled". 😂⁷
I am shocked the top notes were in okay shape after all these years - on my vintage Parfum Toilette has very little notable top - smells great, but mids and base notes dominate. Wonder it that's from age, composition/concentration, or storage condition?

I recently opened up a vintage (1987) bottle of Jean Patou Ma Liberte' that was in it's original cellophane wrapped box.

Whoa! Joel, you can use the rubber bottle openers (think opening a pickle jar) if you ever have a fragile bottle to open. Wow I’m so happy for you!
