It's crazy how much has changed in just a short time. In 2015 I was scouring the internet to find good handheld gaming devices that weren't proprietary. And I got the GPD XD. And then I backed the GPD Win. And it was amazing to just even be able to play all these games on a portable device even though there were a lot of compromises. And less than 8 years later we have a pocketable fully functional gaming laptop thay is more powerful than some regular laptops.
I was so split between the Win max 2 and the win 4 :) I've actually refunded my win max 2 order when I saw this video, this is exactly what I wanted, a smaller version of the win max 2.
This is my next handheld. I didn’t even care about this device until you showed it. I knew about it.. didn’t care until I seen what they did. Those grips and oculink are CLUTCH
I loved my GPD Win 2! So excited for this. I liked the size of the Win 2, but as I get older and my eyes get worse... I don't think I will mind the bigger screen and form factor.
Yep I needed the magnifying app running in windows for the GPD Win 2. I just ordered my young sons the OneXplayer 2 as I don't want them to weaken their eyesight playing Roblox for hours on the GPD Win 2.
@sheepy2358 I can play games comfortably on a SteamDeck or OneXplayer Mini pro. I and my son cannot game on my Win 2 as I can't read anything in the Hud or in the game. OneXPlayer2 is the largest hand held screen out there.
Owning the Ally for a week made me realize how important a keyboard and mouse/trackpad is to the Windows Experience. Having both of these built in AND the device being significantly more portable is so amazing.
Yup. That's the exact reason I stayed away from the Ally. Steam Deck gives you the mouse, but not keyboard. This thing gives you both AND clamshell form to pocketable. So hyped.
@@metaldiceman As one of the first few owners of the Steam Deck (first batch sent out), I am soooo glad i didnt cough up for the Ally. Now I will just need to sell my SD once i get this. Clam shell and pocketable is just **Chef's Kiss**, not to mention a proper thunderbolt 4 for my eGPU!

They should add a rail for the grips, so they can be slid on and off. For a quick game I probably can live without them but if I'm traveling I'd throw those in my bag as well. Just an idea.
yeh I really want rails too!, or a grip that the mini clips into, similar to the controller grips made for phones unfortunately they probably have the final molds already made.
@@dreamingthelife Well, the bottom doesn't seem to be done yet so I have my fingers crossed. I hope that how they connect the grips is just the first draft. The grips seem to be 3D printed they look like they're not finalized either. It seems like a janky way to connect grips, and a little to big of a hassle to connect. Just the other day i was thinking about how no tablet, phone, or anything beats that PC bedtime gaming like my old WIN 1. I was about to look at the massive MAX, but WOW this came at the PERFECT time!
I had a GPD Win (1) back in the day, and used it to complete my Masters while I was on campus. I'd take lecture notes on it using the built in keyboard, and if I really needed to sit down and study for a couple of hours in one spot, I could connect a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and external screen. It was just so awesome for productivity, and I could even use it on the bus ride home, again with the in built keyboard, without needing a lot of space to open a full laptop. This device looks really promising. I'll have to keep my eye out for it. :-)
OMG!! It looks beautiful! I can’t wait for it to come out Edit: What would be neat is there was a magnetic screen you can attach over the GPD Win Mini’s Keyboard to get a second screen for DS games

If it had celluar tech and a camera I would consider replacing my phone altogether.
The two big things that will impact this device is thermals and battery if they nail those this would be a near perfect device. Only issue I see currently is that the grips aren’t easily detachable I’d love to buy a couple of them and use them when I need them

It’s a cool device, but I learned my lesson with the the Win Max 2021 refresh. These things get uncomfortably hot in the hand to where you don’t even want to play after a bit. The Steam Deck and ROG Ally are bigger, but they thought about the heat on hands, and you never feel it on either device.

The Win Max does get the hands a bit sweaty after playing for a while though, I would like to know the details of how cool the Win Mini keeps (and how loud the fans are while doing it). Wait, the grips are screwed in place? Damn, that's a bummer. I was expecting something like a T rail with thick "leg" and a notch for a springed stopper (on grips) you could press back from below, near the bottom edge of the device.
Another think I noticed is they put both the D-Pad and the buttons towards the center and leave the thumbsticks on the outside. I prefer this for classic games as it was straining my right thumb on the Win Max 2 to reach to the outside. It would be cool if there was a way to swap things around, say I'm playing a game that needs a thumbstick over the d-pad or buttons I would want to move them towards the center, but having the tumbsticks on the outside is the best layout for me.

how does it compare to the flipstart? the micropc? side by side with the win 2? it would be nice if there was a way to slide and lock/unlock the grips so you can put them on/take them off without needing a screwdriver yet keep it pocketable. in storage mode, the grips could lock to each other, so you’re dealing with one piece and won’t be too unwieldy.

This is the one... I'm still waiting to hear more about the Aya Neo Next II, if it'll have that dedicated gpu as suggested, but not holding my breath with those QC issues.
A week ago I was playing Diablo 4 and Evil West on my GPD Win 2 with the cooling mod... Not great, but it's incredibly portable and still playing some newer games! Hopefully this brings back the actual "handheld" devices.
I desire this device will buy right on first indiegogo day!
how does it compare to the flipstart? the micropc? side by side with the win 2?
it would be nice if there was a way to slide and lock/unlock the grips so you can put them on/take them off without needing a screwdriver yet keep it pocketable. in storage mode, the grips could lock to each other, so you’re dealing with one piece and won’t be too unwieldy.
Why is that middle square under the screen not a track pad?
it is a track pad
Whats the range of motion for the screen?
How does the thumb typing compared to full size ones like Win Max 2?
Do you know if anyone has a cad file available for the max 2 I would love to design some clip on grips for it
very good info, key cap size measurement
If they do a refresh of this, with an 8050 in it (12C/24T, Zen4 with 16CU RDNA 3.5). I'll definitely look at getting one of these. 1070 performance in hand anyone?
Im open to the idea of getting my hands on one of these. I think the best portable design has to be the Switch Lite.
