    The couple who teaches sayang which means to love are from Sarawak as the woman said "indah" at the end, which in Malay sarawak means something like why so sudden/out of nowhere an expression used when you're confused or disatisfied with the answer given and in most scenario, you already know the answer is wrong. For peninsular malaysian, indah is equivalent to "pulak"

    Malay has multi slang, if you learn Malay with Chinese guy you had chinese-malay slang, if you learn with Indian guy you had indian-malay slang, same to other races they had they own slang but it never stop there, if you learn Malay with Malay guy in different state they also has different version..

    • @Sarah-yg8kt
      @Sarah-yg8kt 2 роки тому +2

      In different malay states, it's not different slang but different dialect. Slang is how one pronounce the language. Dialect is the variation of the language. If it's how different race pronounce a language, it's slang.

    Interesting fact: malay or bahasa melayu is singapore's national languange... some sort the same in malaysia..
    But English is administration language is recognized in gov of Sgpore..
    So of course English being internationally popularly use, English is much more used in sgpore for decades since 80s

      Yes true. Both countries Bahasa Melayu is official language. But pity malaysia has been slagging in English Language for past 20 years since the ketuanan melayu government hv been promoting BM aggresively under PM Sabri from umno political party. English was once widely used and spoken in school, offices in 196o, 1970s and 1980s.

      Spore negara amalkan keadikan dan kesaksamaan meteokrsi . Semua dilayan dan diberi hak sama takde bumiputera dan ketuanan melayu. Siapa yg rajin dan berusaha mereka la yg berjaya.
      Ah jgn pula ada yg kata klu spore bagus pergi tnggal di spore lah. Patut ambil ikhtibar dari sudut positif iaitu semua rakyat patut dpt layanan sama rata dan adil.

    Malay language use a lot of E sound end of words.. example saya, it's sound saye ( e sounds like enough ...the E ) and Malaysia Malay language is different from one state to another but we speak formal Bahasa melayu for formal things like at school, in government offices)
    For example : habaq Mai ( tell me )
    Habaq Mai ( penang )
    Royak wi ( TERENGGANU /Kelantan )
    Bagitahu ( Selangor)
    And Malaysia have 13 different state and 13 different dialect of Malay language...

      The ‘e’ or schwa you mentioned earlier is exclusive to Southern dialects (Selangor, Melaka, Johor), Pahang, and Terengganu. But since the Johor Malay variety was chosen to be standardized, (plus the influence of Singaporean broadcast pre-independence), the accent sticks. Now it became the dominant accent, despite the standard Malay has its own Baku (formal) pronunciation.
      Secondly, we don’t have 13 different dialects per se. Perlis, Kedah, and Penang are in the same dialect continuum and so do Selangor, Melaka, and Johor. But i guess many can be considered distinct enough to be its own dialect. Also, Reman Malay (Baling) is its own Malay dialect distinct from Kedahan or Kelantanese. At the same time, Pahang dialect continuum has tons of subdialects. Terengganu has two, the famous one and the Hulu one, these two to an extent are not mutually intelligible. And we haven’t even begin to talk about Malaysian Borneo yet.
