I have both software, but I find myself using primarily Luminar Neo cause it's WAY more user friendly. Also, there are many elements in "develop" that I think Neo is doing a better job, such as exposure and smart Contrast. On the other hand, On1 has features that Neo doesn't such as creating panorama with RAW files and having different shapes of masking brash.

Definitely ease of use of luminar neo trumps ON1. ON1 is more useful if you need to create precise masks/do local adjustments.

On 1 2023 version will be far superior than Laminar neo.

Good, practical demonstration… appreciated 👍🏼 … I have dabbled with both (and topaz, no longer) for past years, windows and Mac … I have found luminar often slow/er, and is a bottomless pit of expensive for "upgrades" and "new" versions … after much messing around with I’ve settled on ON1 (now 2024) and Pixalmator Pro on my silicon MacBook … thanks

Yes, great choices, not too expensive but performant. Luminar made a mistake by promoting Luminar AI then immediately ditching it for Luminar Neo leaving customers scratching their heads. Also their pricing of 249 with all extensions is approaching Capture one's price which is pretty crazy. They have to relook that.

I found much the same thing the on1 interface is cluttered and unclear play Neo way of doing things seem to easier for myself. I usually do the bulk of my Roth add a day in Lightroom and the mask tool in it is quite good. However, if it is more complex, I will take it to on1. The noise reduction tool they just added to Neo is very slow, and while it does a similar job to other products, it is by far the slowest, even slower than topaz. Denoise
I find Neo does the best job with sky work and for finishing touches

Hi it sounds similar to my conclusion. I'll do a review on the new extensions for Neo. But yes noiseless their AI noise reduction is very slow and performs much worse than on1. Though it is an improvement over their current noise reduction.

Lack of importing photos in Luminar like in LR is one of the biggest points why I don't buy it!

Luminar's photo management is defintely a weak point. Seems the don't they focus on it.

Hows the HDR merging in on 1? I'm starting real estate and looking got precise masking, high quality hdr merging,, and quick workflow

In my tests not that great. I'd go for lightroom or capture one with the criteria you mentioned

If you don't mind paying subscription, Lightroom is the software to go. For those who hate subscription like me, go to ON1!

I'm with you! I don't have a problem with subscription except for YEARLY subscription which lightroom requires unfortunately. I'll tolerate month to month.

Perfect brush works fine if you adjust the sensitivity settings. If you’re going to discuss a tool and say it’s no good. You should at least learn how to use it before making a judgement. I use both On1, Neo and topaz photo suite. Each has benefits but neither is perfect. If I had to choose only one it would be On1 2023

    • @takebetterphotos8132

Thanks for the feedback. Main issue is other competitors work out of the box. ON1's brush is also quite laggy. I still love ON1 though.

@@takebetterphotos8132 I agree ON1 2022 was a bit slow. The latest update to ON1 23 that just came out is a big improvement. For masking touch ups the refine tool is much better than using the perfect brush in my opinion quicker and more reliable than using the ai brush to tidy up selections in Neo.

Neo without edge detection is a big disadvantage. ON1 23 blows them away with perfect brush and mask AI. Not sure why Neo doesn't want to fix this.

Neo freezes and crashes on my PC. Would love to know how well it performs with raw files on others with a PC

It does work for me on my 10gen processor and nvdia 1650. I think its resource requirements are quite large though and is not as efficient as other editors. How old is your PC?

@@takebetterphotos8132 I forget when I purchased it but it was the fastest ASUS gaming laptop at the time. 8 GB of RAM, x64- based PC, Intel i7 -4710 CPU @2.5 GHz,
I’m retired now and don’t want to sink money into a totally new system.
Is there a relatively cheap upgrade I can do to prevent constant crashes and freezes?
It seems to happen immediately when I get into masking and I’ve done the basic develop editing and maybe 2 to 3 other minor tweaks.
I stopped using AI because of these issues and like a dope I was roped into buying the NEO lifetime subscription thinking they would have addressed the PC issues
I did have interactions with Luminar and they insisted my current was fine for AI😂 It was good for low quality jpeg files with few edits. Anything else was a nightmare
If anyone can help I’d really appreciate it

Perhaps run luminar without any other apps running and make sure you have enough space (10GB) and see if it is better. That's the only thing I can think of. AI unfortunately requires fast graphics card or else the PC will freeze. That's my experience using ON1 and DXO on an i5. Totally unworkable.

ON1 2023 is more sluggish in my experience however they will be releasing ON1 2024 which specifically addresses the slow performance. We shall see when it launches early Nov!
