On the authority of Ibn Omar - may God be pleased with them both - he said: Omar Ibn al-Khattab - may God be pleased with him - wrote to the soldiers: “Do not kill a woman or a boy.” And among the commandments of ( Caliph Abu Bakr ) to the princes of the army:
“ Do not kill a woman, or a boy, or an old age, and do not cut down fruit trees, do not destroy a crowd, and do not spit a sheep or camel except for food, and do not drown palm trees and do not burn them, and do not boil. ”

@Al Barbarī When did he fall out with Abu Bakr?? I think you got Umar and Abu Bakr mixed up in some of your historical recollections. It was Umar who had a fall out with Khalid bin Walid due to the Malik Ibn Nuwayra incident. Abu Bakr took Khalid's side.
Though, he may not have shown his full potential under Abu Bakr, Abu Bakr deployed him against the rebels and murtadeen and Khalid showed himself to be a very capable commander. The quote "Women will never give birth to children like Khalid bin Walid again" is ascribed to Abu Bakr.

Khalid was victim of his own success. Umar wasn't joking around he was also banning Leaders of cities from doing any activities outside governance and from using their authorities in any way of form to benefit themselves or their relatives. any mistake even not intentionally was always dealt with by dismissing them no matter how pious or important the individual is. Umar was only pleased of humble and hard working leaders and he wasn't taking or accepting any excuses. He called Amr to Medina and humiliated him in front of the Muslim council after his son beaten an Egyptian citizen and telling him that he is the son of the governor, Umar further asked the Egyptian who was present to beat both Amr and his son and to start by hitting Amr with Umar's personal stick but the latter refused to hit but the one who beaten him and further more Umar kept on insisting to continue hitting when the man was beating the son of Amr without the latter resistance. The Muslims had mobility, discipline, battle hardiness and cunning on their side. This is the case for pretty much the entirety of these conquests. If the Romans had even above average command competence they may have figured a way to surprise or outflank the encamped Muslims and drive them off before reinforcements arrived. The entire story of the early muslim expansion is absolutely fascinating! It's one of the most amazing stories in the human history. But where are these leaders and thinkers today? How did these spirit and fervor vanish not to return for over a millennium? I am sure that everyone who watched the video has these questions in his/her mind...
We do not wonder because the Prophet told us that it will return one day, and the son of Mary will be among us
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: The people will soon summon one another to attack you as people when eating invite others to share their dish. Someone asked: Will that be because of our small numbers at that time? He replied: No, you will be numerous at that time: but you will be scum and rubbish like that carried down by a torrent, and Allah will take fear of you from the breasts of your enemy and last enervation into your hearts. Someone asked: What is wahn (enervation). Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): He replied: Love of the world and dislike of death.

Omar wanted to prove that the victories came from God not from Khalid and even without Khalid those victories will continue.
@Kingdom of Nubia I am Muslim, and I confirm that God was not with Arabs that days. Muslim warriors in the period of The Caliph Omar fought for heaven but Arab armies in the war of six day were fighting for Dictators and salaries.
@Kingdom of Nubia Muslim warriors at that time were not angels
You should learn about the commandments of the prophet Muhammad in war. To see that Islam is a religion of peace. And you can also ask your self why did the Mangols converted into Islam if Islam is spread by sword??
He was just afraid that the Warriors would become more loyal to Khalid so demoted him, it was all about power and to keep the centralized rule.
@Kingdom of Nubia Slavery at that time was a tradition and a norm in all wars and an independent economy. In America, a civil war broke out because of the emancipation of slaves, and the Prophet’s plan was to free the slaves in a smooth manner. The Prophet Muhammad pardoned the murderer of his uncle Hamza and Hind who tore the heart of his uncle and ate his liver. The Prophet Muhammad fought against those who attacked him and defended himself, even if it was a bloody truth as you claim, he did not pardon the residents of Makkah who fought him and deserted him away from his people.
In the Battle of Badr, he freed the prisoners from the Quraysh in exchange for teaching the Muslims to write and read. When the Prophet Muhammad entered Medina, he approved the first constitution in the world that protects the rights of non-Muslims, allowing Jews and Christians to practice their beliefs in a normal manner. The conclusion is that the twenty-first century concepts of freedom, human rights and democracy should not be applied to medieval concepts where murder, slaughter and servitude are a culture and a sign of strength and awe

And even after 1400 years, At least over 10millions Coptic Christians still live in Egypt. Can't say the same about Christian rule over non-christian subject.
That’s because the Muslim invasion of Egypt was done in collaboration with the Egyptian people who really despised the Byzantine Empire, and were only a few years prior a province of the Persian empire briefly. This is largely because Egypt was following the Coptic Church, whereas Syria and Iraqi Christians were largely Greek orthodox and followed the lead of the emperor and therefore did not despise the Byzantine Empire and collaborate with the caliphate

Furthermore, orthodox Christians already paid a tax similar to the zakat to the church that was actually hire, it rained from between 5 to 10%. So the Muslim tax on the Christian Egyptian‘s made it even more burdensome, it didn’t even relieve them of military service, it was a tax to a religious organization a.k.a. the caliphate they didn’t even believe in, and was essentially a protection racket tax because if they refuse to pay they would have to either convert or die

Also you're totally wrong, I will happily tell you that the Abbasid Caliphate was officially dissolved when the Ottomans occupied Cairo, about a century after they conquered Constantinople aka out lasted the last Greek city state of Constantinople that just survived by signing peace treatments and paying the Jizya (nothing close to an empire), and both the Moroccan and Omani empires were ruled by Arab dynasties and Morocco's royalty were declared a Caliphate that ruled parts of north and west Africa and south west Europe way before the Ottomans, and the last Arab empire Oman that ruled most of the coastal lines and islands of east Africa, south Asia, Arabian sea islands and Indian Ocean islands lasted even after the declaration of the modern Greek state for decades.
So not really, it's just that your educational systems are too sad to teach you enough to know that, I bet you all here are fid with orientalist trash and were only taught European history + some biblical fantasies about Arameans, ancient Egyptians, Babylonians and Canaanites and were taught to exaggerate Europe's actual position, which was nothing compared to other civilizations in the medieval ages and dust compared to ancient civilizations, also I bet you think the dark ages is a global thing, while it's just European, China and the Arabs & allies had their golden ages at that time, Europe became a thing during the colonization and around 100bce for a while of time.
A westerner and a western influenced should only start a discussion with a fellow westerner or western influenced.

One of the best pages in UA-cam ❤️ "Kings and Generals" it deserves much more.
Amr Ibn Al-As: So anyway I started conquesting....
It wasn't about worshipping Khalid. It may have been more to do with the reliance on God.
In historical articles, it mentions that many of the bedoines would turn to worshipping idols and other humans from time to time. And they did so with Khalid as well.
@@monosodiumglutemate8216 yes, worship doesn't start with the practice of it but with words that amount to that effect. That's how Jesus PBUH ended up being worshipped in Christianity. We get lazy with language and from there follows the act of worship itself.

Absolute chad. Amr decides to open the letter in Egypt since he would be in Egypt when the read the commands.
Really nice to see some history on the early Muslim conquests. Later battles (especially during the crusades) are a dime a dozen. But these are lesser known (to the western world at least) and really interesting to learn. Great videos always!
The reason Omar dismissed Khalid was because he thought that victory would be pinned to him, and that no Arab army can win without Khalid commanding it, therefor he thought he must dismiss him.
In other words he got jealous and worried about his position since his general was becoming more popular than him

These people were firm believers beyond such pity reasons.
If what you said was correct, why did Khalid (raa) simply take it? Why didn't he march back on Medina?
He'd already won numerous astonishing victories and had the support of his troops!
And why didn't Omar exile him or at least bring him back to Medina were he could keep a close eye on him?
He simply demoted him and left him be at the frontier among his men! Khalid even took the leadership again temporarily in the battle of Yarmouk! It was a perfect opportunity after the amazing Yarmouk victory!
Think about all of what I've said in light of your version of the matter and see if it holds up.
If it doesn't, then know that these are truly pious believers who respected each other and had nothing in mind other than the collective good of Islam and Muslims.
Nothing else explains the speed at which Islam had spread. Nothing.
@@abdelkarim8381 I didn't say khalid wanted to betray omar and take his seat. I said omar was worried about it. It happened thousands of times in history before and after them. When a general outshines his emperor/king/caliph the guy on the superrior position can get worry especially if general gets the public support. It's only natural. It's human psychology.
omar didn't punish him because khalid had a lot of supporters. If omar exiled him or punished him, caliphate would be divided between omar supporters and khalid supporters and that's bad for business. Also if omar punished him without a reason, soldiers, generals and public would be angry and would think omar as a tyrant since he punishes people without a cause even the most successful and loyal ones. So there would a probability that the majority of the country might have turned against omar in that case. I think omar was very lucky that khalid wasn't greedy.
That's my take on that. It's all about politics. They might have been pious but that had nothing to do with politics. It's nothing new. Like I said it happened a lot of times in history. Check out the life of Belisarius for example. It's kinda similar.

Top historical quality! 👏 Please more about medieval Romans!
It's cool to watch one of your favorite history UA-cam channels showing a battle that took place 10 mins away from your House, I am from Cairo Egypt specifically from this Rauda island, and even the Babylon Fortress
is only a one metro station("Mar Girgis" station) away from me or I can walk it,
More interestingly I still live in the same house that my grandfather and grand mother lived in,
This island is home for many monuments, and it is mentioned a lot in history,
The mamluks of Bahri dynasty originally settled on it at the castle of Al-Rodah, which was built by the Ayyubid Sultan "Al-Malik al-Salih Najm al-Din Ayyub" (the nearest metro station to me is called "Al-Malik al-Salih") in order to house his mamluks. its cool that in Muslim ages we had kings and dynasties of rulers who were originally slaved (Mamluk means owned) and then they ruled countries from Egypt for centauries,
The Rauda island is mentioned a lot in history, even though Only recently did the island begin to become overwhelmed by people and buildings and become a vital residential neighborhood, and you can even notice that from Google earth maps, and interestingly my father's grandfather from his mother was from the first people to start building modern tall Residential Buildings in it,
Lastly My name is "Aly Shorosh", and I am a Muslim from Egypt and have some ancestors from my father's mother branch from Damietta Governorate
which is near from Pelusium, and some ancestors from my mother branch from Arabia and part of them are directly related to prophet Muhammad (Arabs are very good in tracking ancestors my grand mother has a written approved paper for her full name, name by name to "Ali ibn Abi Talib" the cousin of the prophet who married to the prophet's daughter),
BTW as ancestors was very important to Arabs, Islam was too ,So A way why the Quran didn't change because also it was not only saved by papers and by writing it, but also mainly it was memorized by the companions of the prophet and then they teached others and so on, even when you go now to learn Quran and memorize it all you go to take an Ijazah of the Quran and they give you certificate when you finish and written in it that you now memorized all the Quran from the sheikh (the one who teached you) from his sheikh and so on till you reach a companion name who learned the Quran from the prophet directly,
so its like a very huge tree and when you go to any leaf in the tree that came from any branch you will find that they all memorized the exact same text of Quran.

I think that is enough talking for me but actually I got excited when I saw my home in the video lol
You make the best documentaries on UA-cam. Can't wait for the next video!

Being am Egyptian and Christian, this one got personal for me very fast.
Did you know that the Egyptians were so grateful for the Islamic caliphates arrival as the eastern Romans persecuted the Coptic church as they were not in line with their view of Christianity? They welcomed them because under sharia they were able to practice their variant of their choosing in peace.
So long as they had money to do so, otherwise they were slewn.
@@abloodorange5233 Yes and no, as the Romans did persecute the Coptic christians, but Copts may have viewed the Arabs and the Greeks the same, both invaders. Furthermore much of the Coptic society was simillar to Greek so many would have viewed Greek rule better as their culture wouldnt have been suppresed as bad. Also Copts wernt 'grateful' as that implies they where happy about the Arab conquest as shown by the many Coptic revolted mostly about the Jizyah tax, as many people abused the system. Why lie? The coptics and Eastern Orthodox byzantines did have their disagreements in the Christian faith but copts getting slaughtered by christian byzantines? No.
There is surviving texts written by coptics of arabs slaughtering Egyptians though. The copts did not want to become Muslim, it was forced on them by oppressive laws implemented by the arab invaders.
Amr: One of the most underrated commander in the Muslim conquests.
Also Amr: Casually went by Heliopolis without contemplating a potential encirclement.
Even the smartest people make mistakes. He had long history of achievement. Once he attacked bigger army at the darkness of the night and win.
that part was lowkey kinda funny to me because i was imagining in my head, that when Zubayr with his troops passed the road, he sees that fort in total confusion
and then he goes to Amr and just went "bro did you not notice the big wall on the way here"
