The last witch hunter is a criminally underrated movie.
I really liked how this movie went back to how the original felt, just smaller and simpler.
Yeah, the necromonger stuff always felt so out of place compared to the original.
I honestly think the best part of the movie is when Riddick gets marooned and has to survive. If I were to change anything about the movie it would have been to carry that through until the end, with Riddick escaping the planet and wreaking havoc on the traitors. I think rehashing Pitch Black was a little tepid.
If you guys looked into the lore more it wouldn't be as jarring.
For example this is actually the 4th movie, not the 3rd.

Not really.
You have to understand, this serie is basically auto financed, it's an indy SCI-FI epic. Nobody in Hollywood want to invest in that, it is too "original" to be considered safe. So It's a personal project of the director and Vin. That's why in take so long to have a follow up unfortunately...
Hard to believe , when they give Adam Sandler $60-80 mil to act , produce and write total pile of garbage movies all the time , guy did one funny movie 25 years ago .
Sandler has been around awhile, and his recent movies have come from his own production company. @@pete_lind

When you think about it, he was able to fight thru so much horse tranquilizers because of the immunity he gave himself from the creature's venom which also worked like a tranquilizer.
He could tank so much horse tranquillizers because he's an Alpha Furyan, essentially a superhuman. The immunity he got from the venom probably wouldn't do much seeing as venom isn't considered a tranquilizing drug, they're usually used to stop prey from moving, tranquillizers are akin to going to a gas clinic for having a tooth extraction, you can still move, but you're just chill.

@@ashscott6068 If they had alluded to him being non-human/Furyan in Pitch Black it would have done a lot to set up the other films. Also, I can't imagine a Furyan liquor store, you would need literal gallons of booze to get them pissed.
And while it's been 10 years since this came out it's been confirmed by the man himself Vincent Diesel, that they are currently working on the next installment of the Riddick series.

Thanks for giving this series of movies a watch. I think all 3 are entertaining in different ways.
This is why Sackhoff is sci-fi royalty, like Claudia Black from Pitch Black. She didn't have to get that big for this movie but an actor taking their roles serious shows. It's insane how much bigger she was here than she is now in The Mandalorian and you can tell it's just muscle. I remember she told a story around this time that she humiliated some guy at the gym because she could lift so much more than him.
She has a great UA-cam channel where she goes in depth about the difference in her body and workouts to prepare for specific roles and when she’s between movies. She looks like a very cool laid back person.

CB is a gorram goddess and I swear we might have seen her in Firefly if it had been given a chance. Absolutely LOVED her in Farscape.
She said on her UA-cam channel that she was over 160 pounds for this role...and that she was in the mid-140's for BSG and Longmire. She was at a career low 136 for Another Life. She's only 5'6.
What that tells me is that most female athletes and athletically built actresses are afraid to tell their true weight, and sometimes height. I remember Serena Williams being listed at 145, which might have been true when she was 14, but I bet she was every bit of 180 or more. You can tell that many athletic women are afraid that they will be seen as unfeminine or fat and therefore unhireable if they admit to weighing more than 140.
vakko went into the underverse. the lord marshall in the previous movie is the only one who ever went there and made it back, that's how he gained those strange powers. vakko wanted those powers for himself.
And now, so does Riddick
funny thing, this only exists because the studio asked Diesel for a cameo in another movie. he offered that instead of pay, they give him the rights to Riddick, since it was shortly after Chronicles of Riddick tanked, they agreed. Diesel and the director then put this together themselves.
Studio traded , Vin cameo in Tokyo drift to Riddick rights ... i think that was a good deal for Vin .
If anyone wants to do Riddick movies in future , Vin can be like John Carpenter , if they give me a big check , they can remake what ever , i just want to make music 🙂
The fourth movie (or maybe if they decide to do a fifth) is supposed to not only have Riddick finally arrive at Furya to discover who he is and where he came from, but he’d also supposed to take a trip to (through?) the Underverse as well. The Necromongers are Riddick’s archenemies, even though he never knew of them until the 2nd film.
The Lord Marshall from the second film that he killed at the end, was the guy who, as a younger Necromonger soldier, launched the invasion of Furya because of the prophecy that a male Furian would one day kill him. During the invasion, he personally strangled newborn Furyan male babies with their own umbilical cords, and Riddick talked to the holy man in the first movie that he had been found cast into a dumpster with his cord around his neck, a failed attempt to kill him right after his birth, and that’s what set him on his path in life of committing murder to survive. So that guy, who later became the Lord Marshall, was responsible for Riddick’s entire life of escaping incarceration and running from the law. It’s thought that Riddick is gonna travel to underverse after Vakko and see Lord Marshall again to confront him, before making it to Furya. We’ll see.
i just saw an article saying the next movie is called furya, so he must make it there. it would be really stupid to call it furya if at least half the movie didn't take place on furya.
i never thought about him potentially running into the lord marshall again. i'm guessing if he is there it will be in a spirit form, not a physical form. if he were in his same physical form there then he could just keep coming back to real world, he'd basically be immortal.
Not necessarily. Never put anything past writers making a title to draw people in with very little focus on what’s in the title. Godzilla 2014? They could literally arrive at Furya in the last 20 minutes of the movie for the final battle, with Furya simply being the MacGuffin that sets the story in motion. I doubt that will happen, but don’t count it out. Dumber decisions have been made.
I still count this as the forth movie in itself. Since there was also the anime movie Dark fury which takes place just after the first one.
@@YukoValisnever watched the animated movie. played both riddick video games though, they were pretty good. you could take your goggles off and on at will to adjust for the lighting. they captured the feel of the movies pretty well, aside from riddick using guns in the game which for some reason he never uses in the movies.
if he had one or 2 of those high-tech necro guns in the last movie, he would have never been stranded on that planet.

This wasn't the theatrical version. In that, they edited out all the Necromonger crap. The only part you saw of them was Riddick being dropped on the planet. And the ending was when they were being hoisted off the planet.
the necromonger stuff in current day would be placed as an after credit scene teasing the next movie. no way they dont bring back karl urban and give riddick more super powers so the scene will be cannon
I worked at a video store when this came out and the funny thing is if you take the slide cover off of the DVD and flip it around and put it back on the slot in the back only allows you to see 4 letters and I will let you guess which letters those are
Even though GOTG was released in 2014, it is likely bautista and diesel only worked together on this film since diesel only did voice work for GOTG as groot and wasn't actually filming any scenes outside of a sound booth. It's pretty much what paul bettany was doing as the voice of jarvis in Iron Man 1-3 and the first avengers film before he became the vision in the second avengers movie.
It seems strange to me that Diaz (Bautista) is with the other Mercs and not with a group like Johns'. He actually seems more intelligent that everyone in his group combined. Granted he doesn't really say all that much, but unlike everyone else he also doesn't underestimate Riddick or even talk shit. He just kinda evaluates Riddick by staring him down.
I think the story say that they are cousins and that is why he is on the assholes team.
@@Jozz421 Possibly; but I don't think they're family at all. Nothing suggests to me that they are related in any way. Just because Diaz called him "'Cuz", that doesn't mean anything really. Besides, why would anyone refer to family by their last name??
It seems to me more of like a class or station sort of thing, he's clearly the most capable member of the Merc team, and the most intelligent, and yet he's taking orders from complete dickheads. I suspect he has some sort of record that stops him from joining the professionals, something criminal, or political maybe considering how many different planets there are. My guess is he was banned from the big leagues because he wouldn't stop yapping about talking trees and racoons with guns.

He's Johns' father. I didn't think the actor was old enough for that.
The end scene wasn't in the original I think, also the opening Necromonger scene may have been shorter but I'm not as sure about that.
Was that a director's cut l remember the end being the actress from battlestar Galactica rescuing Him or was the scene after that a post credits scene

I think this one is my fav. I love the whole survival on an alien planet thing. I could even do without the mercs just riddick trying to survive in strange alien habitats is wat gets my juices dribbling.

Great reaction as always. There is an animated Riddick movie, The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury (2004), that you might want to check out if you're looking for more.
One thing to note about the Riddick films is that they are not fantasy based. The basic premise is that as humans spread out into the galaxy they found worlds that weren't quite fit for human habitation as well as those that were. Instead of terraforming the nearly suitable ones, they altered their own genetics to survive. Follow that with a couple thousand years of adaptive evolution and you get people like the Furyans and Elementals with over exaggerated traits. Things like the highly boosted physical traits of the Furyans and the semi-invisible, hyper lightweight bodies of an Elemental.
The Necros are a different story. They're a religion/cult whose believes are backed by in-universe fact. At some point in the past, some person found that spatial tear shown at the end. They went through and found an alternate dimension that changed them. Humans being what we are, we can turn anything into a religion. In this case I think whatever's on the other side of that tear alters a person so that they exist across multiple timeframes simultaneously. Whatever the effect is, someone affected by it can learn to control it and even affect others by contact. This is what the Lord Marshal did to the protestor in film 2 and the effect was both sudden and fatal. No 'claiming his soul' just flooding his body with that effect and tearing him apart from the inside.
The quasi-deads (the ones lying in weird hatches all covered in shrouds that were used to mind probe Riddick and act as long distance communication) would be a different effect from that the Lords Marshal have. Likely something that early Lords Marshal experimented to achieve in the early days of the Necromonger cult.
Doesn't explain the anger of the entire Furyan race, though.

Katee Sackhoff is a pretty open book. She's happy to talk about just about anything. I read an interview where someone asked her how it was doing the nude scene. She said it wasn't the nudity she had a problem with, more if this was the right time to do something like that since she'd held off on doing nudity up till that point. So she calls her dad and he says "You've made it this far without showing any boobs, you might as well do it." She goes on to say it's only one boob. It's "not like she whipped out her hoo-hah". She ends that subject up saying that she thought it was important to show how vulnerable Dahl was and if people thought it was gratuitous "I don't give a shit". Katee Sackhoff is truly one of my favourite personalities. She stopped posting videos to UA-cam a couple of years ago which is a shame because she's a lot of fun to watch. She's a machine too. The way she trains for different roles. She figures out what type of musculature the character might have then alters her workout accordingly. And she's not just movie fit. She enters the Spartan Sprint at one point and gets a pretty good time. I'm a little enamoured with her yes but I think you'd find the same if you watched through her videos. She's the kind of easily likeable person that you could imagine she'd be cool to sit down and have a drink with. She's awesome. I love her. You should check out her UA-cam videos.

I saw this movie at the cinema with my brother. I've always been a fan of Riddick, my younger brother only since the sequel, but we both fell in love with this universe thanks to the PC game "The Chronicles of Riddick: The Escape from The Butcher Bay". The screening in the cinema was for me.. a bit disappointing, there are many references to the first film and I expected more but considering the budget and how much Vin sacrificed for this film, it's quite impressive. I am waiting and hoping that the fourth movie will appear and I will watch it again with my brother in the cinema..
it would be so stupid to not have a 4th movie when riddick ended on a massive cliffhanger like that. we'd already have a 4th by now, but for whatever reason the majority of fans didn't like the 2nd movie, and that one had the biggest budget.
personally chronicles is my favorite. pitch black is a close 2nd and riddick my least favorite. i really liked the opening 30-40 mins of riddick, but once the bounty hunters show up it went downhill from there. chronicles is one of my most rewatched movies ever, up there with total recall and the first terminator.

Riddick for me is tied with Pitch Black. Sometimes I like Pitch Black more sometimes I like Riddick more. So they're basically tied. Like I said on the other reaction, I've been following any scrap of information I can find about Furya for the past 10 years. The script was apparently finalized a couple years ago. I guess Vin has to make a few more Fast movies to get some funding to do it though. As I understand it, Vin owns the Riddick IP entirely.
My dad had a German Shepherd named Jack when he was little. Very obedient, left the area whenever the neighbour's turkeys came marching, knowing he wouldn't be able to resist the temptation if he lingered.

I like how this movie goes back toward pitch blacks story.
He put up the tail for the dogs as an effige, he knows they fear that creature so it keeps them at bay. If you've played The Forest, you'll know.
Battlestar Galactica was airing at the same time Stargate SG-1 was, Stargate SG-1 actually showed nudity on tv, full frontal. Sci Fi was different back in the day. Also a really good show to watch.. should play the Riddick Games

There is another one between Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick. Name is The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury. It`s an animated movie which connects the two films not only as a storyline, but also as character development.

The scene where he killed the guy in 5 seconds was probably close to that. It was all played out at about half speed or slower. Taking that into account it was 5 seconds from when he first kicked the blade out of his hand.
You guys missed dark fury, it's an animated short film that takes place between pitch black and chronicles of riddick
Riddick is my favorite of the three live actions. There is a fourth one that was animated that came out around the same time as Chronicles that takes place between Pitch Black and Chronicles, it's high gore and not as good as the live actions, but still worth a watch at least once if you enjoy the series, in my opinion.

technically there are 4 movies. 1: Pitch Black. which is honestly the best of them. Riddick is a much more unknown entity. 2: Dark fury. Anime that tells you a bit more about what happened after. 3: Chronicles. I will shake the camera violently. 4: Riddick. Except it is just Pitch Black without the charm imo.
