"I may be bastard, but I'm not a fucking bastard" is one of my fav movie lines. The reason he doesn't want to take her to El Rey is that it's essentially a prison sentence in Purgatory. As a sanctuary city for criminals, it seems like a safe haven, but once your money runs out you have no where else to go and it becomes your prison.

40:50 Tom Savini didn't work on the special FX for this movie. By the late-90s, he was trying to get his acting career going and very often delegated the occasional FX gig to the students of his special make-up effects school in Pennsylvania, taking credit as a supervisor. The special-FX on "From Dusk Till Dawn" were done by the KNB FX studio - as most people know, the three letters stand for Kurtzman, Nicotero, and Berger, the founders of the company. Greg Nicotero, who got his start as one of Savini's assistants on George A. Romero's "Day of the Dead" before moving to LA, also plays the blonde biker who threatens Sex Machine with the switchblade knife. The original script for the movie was written by Robert Kurtzman as both a directing vehicle for himself (he later went on to direct a few movies, starting with "Wishmaster" in '97) as well as a large gig for his then-blossoming company - we're talking about the early-90s here. According to the legend, Kurtzman did the severed ear effect on "Reservoir Dogs" for free in exchange for Quentin Tarantino rewriting the script. The screenplay then became a hot commodity after Tarantino's career took off, eventually landing on Robert Rodriguez's lap (who at the time had become a hot young director after "El Mariachi"). By that point, Kurtzman's chances of directing the flick had slimmed down to zero, but he still retained a story credit and KNB got to make the special FX for the movie, which is more than most people get in Hollywood after a project they started takes off. He had actually shot a teaser\pitch trailer for "From Dusk Till Dawn" in 1991, set to "Hell's bells" by AC\DC and starring Joe Pilato (Captain Rhodes from "Day of the Dead") as Seth Gecko: ua-cam.com/video/ASv2i3O2rOw/v-deo.html ...needless to say, once the movie became a realistic proposal with a substantial budget, Pilato was not even considered for the role and the filmmakers went for George Clooney, who at the time had become a popular TV star thanks to the medical drama "E.R." and was trying to get a proper movie career going (yeah, kids: there was a time when being a star on TV didn't automatically translate in a film career and most TV actors only used to get bit parts in movies).
There was a tv series based off of this movie & it has the same name. It aired on Rodriguez's tv network, "El Rey". It was only 4 seasons & I was surprised that it was actually decent + it went on for that many seasons. Just putting that out there...
The double feature you mentioned - Planet Terror directed by Rodriguez and Death Proof directed by Tarantino. Both are fun to watch, hope to see your reactions to them soon!
Thoe two films, together called GRINDHOUSE, were enjoyable. The best thing about GRINDHOUSE was the fake trailers. I want them to make the "Thanksgiving" one into a feature-length.
Everyting about this movie is just a fun collab between friends. Clooney really stepped out of his lane for that character and owned it, but Salma Hayek's cameo is why everyone remembers Dusk Till Dawn 😋
Rodriguez says that El Rey is in a book he read and it's literally like hell. Where criminals go and never leave like "Hotel California". He said when he made it Cheech was metaphorically the devil. That's why he plays 3 different characters and tells Seth "it's time to go" at the end. He's taking Seth to hell basically where he is gonna spend his days miserably.
The guy playing dominoes is actor Fred Williamson he was a football player and an actor in the 60s and 70s and he was in the movie version of M*A*SH as Spearchucker Jones, it was directed by Robert Altman and is another movie that is definitely worth a reaction.
I recommend watching the series based on the film. The showrunner of the series is also Robert Rodriguez. It was in the series that there was a place for what there was not enough space in the film. It is also impossible not to mention Eiza González, who was cast as Santanico. I guarantee you an incredible atmosphere and at least 2 interesting seasons.👍
23:30 silver works on vampires too, it is a metal that has always been mytholigised to have mystical properties ie Silver Surfer, Silver Samurai, Excalibur had a Silver Blade.
the guy who played the sheriff was also a sheriff and a pimp in the "Kill Bill" movies. (he also was in a show called "Then Came Bronson" but that was centuries ago.)
The special effects of this movie were made by KNB EFX Group. One of it's founders (Greg Nicotero) was tutored by Tom Savini when they made the effects for George A Romero's Day of the Dead. He also plays S*x Machines friend in this movie. I really love that Cheech Marin plays 3 different characters in this movie (Border Guard, Pu**y guy and Carlos) The 2nd movie (Texas Blood Money) was directed by Scott Spiegel (best known for being the 2nd writer of Evil Dead II and his really great slasher Intruder), I think it's not as bad as it's rated, but of course not as good as the first one. But I guess I like all movies with Robert Patrick, so I'm definitely biased... ^^
We can thank Greg Nicotero as being one of the reasons we finally got to see the uncut footage from Friday the 13th Part 2 since he's buddies with Carl Fullerton who did the VFX for that flick.
21:42 this is absolutely the right response to this amazing scene. I rented this movie and watched it with my mum when it came out... that was awkward.
The guys who start fighting the vamps have what I call "flexible minds" when they see weird shit going down they don't freak out they just accept it and start going to work
This, demon knight and bordello of blood would all come on back in the mid to late 90s, i was way too young to watch them and whenever id sneak downstairs to use the tv at night stuff like that would be on. All time classic.
As others have mentioned the director says El Ray comes from the book The Getaway. But... The T Twister bar is a Myan/Aztec ruin, and El Ray Mexico is known for even more Myan ruins. I like to think he is walking into another nest of vampires.
Lil bit of info but Joe Pilato who played Capt. Rhodes in Day of the Dead was originally attached to star as Seth Gecko, theres even a trailer on line but the movie didnt happen until 5 years later.
I love this review! I remember when I saw this movie for the first time. Didn't know what I was watching then halfway through this thing went off the rails. Crazy as hell! Love you guys! Keep it going!
It’s so cool that Mrs. Movies didn’t know it was a vampire movie and to now see what it’s like to not see it coming. It’s a movie that oddly works better years later knowing nothing about it,clearly the point was for it to catch you off guard but at the time of release it was difficult to not know what you were in for. Kind of reminds me of Predator
For his first movie...George clooney was effen amzing in this. He showed why he was and is a fantastic leading actor. To go from a medical drama to a vampire horror film but he landed it in spades
You guys are my favorite. Binge watching the lost series you guys did, but when I saw you did this movie I had to watch. You guys are awesome. Keep it up. Watching from upstate NY.
Sex Machine's "clever" crotch gun appears in Desperado, but isn't used in the film. It WAS used in Machete Kills though. In some lore, vampires can indeed be killed with a gun, but it has to be fired by the left hand.
The twist in this awesome film never gets old. I love watching people react yo it for the first time. WTF !!! Oh my .. and it just keeps getting better .
El Rey is a reference to the Jim Thompson book The Getaway, in the book the place is described as a sanctuary for criminals but is eventually implied that is more like hell on earth since eventually the criminals have to resort to kill each other for their stuff and even resort to cannibalism when things get extremely dire.
I saw this in the theater, not having seen any trailers or commercials for it. I recall that the vampire reveal got audible screams and shouts from all around the auditorium. It was a fun evening, though I haven't felt any particular need to re-watch it since then.
Oh man, I had just hit puberty when I saw Dusk Till Dawn the SECOND TIME after a couple of years it being out. And boy oh boy. Selma really helped me out in allot of ways back then. LMAO god bless you Selma Heyak
If you guys haven't seen Desperado with Antonio Banderas then you really should. It feels like it's in the same universe as this movie. I believe it's another Quentin written and Rodrigues directed film with Selma Hayek. The Mask of Zorro with Antonio Banderas, Katherine Zeta-Jones, and Anthony Hopkins is really good as well. Probably has the best training montage in pretty much any movie though I know Rocky fans would fight me on that opinion.
24:59 I don't know why, but in the scene in which they kill the last remaining female vampires. I kind off think the vampire women from the middle looks kind of hot to me.
The crotch gun was a leftover prop from Robert Rodriguez previous film, "Desperado" (1995) with Antonio Banderas, Selma Hayek, Steve Buscemi, Quentin Tarantino, Cheech Marin, and Danny Trejo. Rodriguez and Tarantino also collaborated on the "Four Rooms" (1995), an anthology of 4 short stories set in the same hotel on the same night. Rodriguez did the 3rd segment, and Tarantino did the 4th.
I don't know if you two are aware of this, but there's a show based on this movie with the same name "From Dusk till Dawn"..... Three seasons, it's a pretty good show that I recommend.......

He had actually shot a teaser\pitch trailer for "From Dusk Till Dawn" in 1991, set to "Hell's bells" by AC\DC and starring Joe Pilato (Captain Rhodes from "Day of the Dead") as Seth Gecko: ua-cam.com/video/ASv2i3O2rOw/v-deo.html
...needless to say, once the movie became a realistic proposal with a substantial budget, Pilato was not even considered for the role and the filmmakers went for George Clooney, who at the time had become a popular TV star thanks to the medical drama "E.R." and was trying to get a proper movie career going (yeah, kids: there was a time when being a star on TV didn't automatically translate in a film career and most TV actors only used to get bit parts in movies).
I hope they watch both movies together with all the fake movie trailers and so forth. It was a Hell of a experience seeing that at the theater.
Thoe two films, together called GRINDHOUSE, were enjoyable. The best thing about GRINDHOUSE was the fake trailers. I want them to make the "Thanksgiving" one into a feature-length.
@@Deathbird_Mitch I'm glad they did machete :> As danny trejo really deserved a breakout chance :>
Ahhh death proof the movie that I was like, "This isn't super good, but enjoyable." most of till the end :>
I can see them maybe doing Machete, but definitely not Hobo With A Shotgun lmao
The sudden genre change halfway through is unexpected.
Kinda wrecked it.
@@hebber1961 Hell no! Made the movie even better than a standard 90's action movie.
Right if you didn't know what this was about you be surprised
@@hebber1961 your high🤣
Ya think? 🙄
Everyting about this movie is just a fun collab between friends. Clooney really
stepped out of his lane for that character and owned it, but Salma Hayek's cameo
is why everyone remembers Dusk Till Dawn 😋
Some vampire lore does include silver as a weapon against them
23:30 silver works on vampires too, it is a metal that has always been mytholigised to have mystical properties ie Silver Surfer, Silver Samurai, Excalibur had a Silver Blade.
When your little girl comes in the room and the applause kicks in is so awesome lmao.
the guy who played the sheriff was also a sheriff and a pimp in the "Kill Bill" movies.
(he also was in a show called "Then Came Bronson" but that was centuries ago.)
The lead singer of the band in the movie is from Robert Rodriguez's "Desperado"
The special effects of this movie were made by KNB EFX Group. One of it's founders (Greg Nicotero) was tutored by Tom Savini when they made the effects for George A Romero's Day of the Dead. He also plays S*x Machines friend in this movie.
I really love that Cheech Marin plays 3 different characters in this movie (Border Guard, Pu**y guy and Carlos)
The 2nd movie (Texas Blood Money) was directed by Scott Spiegel (best known for being the 2nd writer of Evil Dead II and his really great slasher Intruder), I think it's not as bad as it's rated, but of course not as good as the first one. But I guess I like all movies with Robert Patrick, so I'm definitely biased... ^^
Tom Savini isn't Sex Machines friend, he IS Sex Machine 🤣
@@dabbadonisthestout7284 I meant Greg Nicotero played S*x Machine's friend. (The guy with long blonde/brown hair...)
We can thank Greg Nicotero as being one of the reasons we finally got to see the uncut footage from Friday the 13th Part 2 since he's buddies with Carl Fullerton who did the VFX for that flick.
I love that Fred Williamson is in this movie. He's a former NFL (AFL) player who made it big in the blacksploitation films.
21:42 this is absolutely the right response to this amazing scene. I rented this movie and watched it with my mum when it came out... that was awkward.
This was the first R rated movie I saw in the theater. I love this movie! I’ve always wanted to get that tattoo that Clooney has it’s a badass tattoo!
You have to love how this begins so, well ROUGH, and then everything changes!
The guys who start fighting the vamps have what I call "flexible minds" when they see weird shit going down they don't freak out they just accept it and start going to work
" Atleast they got a good picture of him " lmfao! That made me laugh
This, demon knight and bordello of blood would all come on back in the mid to late 90s, i was way too young to watch them and whenever id sneak downstairs to use the tv at night stuff like that would be on. All time classic.
Robert Rodriguez also made the Spy Kids films. He found out while working with Danny Trejo that they are distantly related.
They're distant cousins.
"It's not an infection. It's a curse." So profound.
This movie has some awesome characters.
to this day the wife will do the "At my command you will like the dogshit from my boot heel" to me...
As others have mentioned the director says El Ray comes from the book The Getaway. But... The T Twister bar is a Myan/Aztec ruin, and El Ray Mexico is known for even more Myan ruins. I like to think he is walking into another nest of vampires.
Great reaction as always. This movie is just a fun ride.
16:33, "is he the bouncer?" "or just the announcer?"😂😂😂
2:35 That guy (Michael Parks) plays the same character in the Kill Bill movies (and others) as well as playing Esteban in Kill Bill: Volume 2.
awwwww... what a sweet golden headed toddler intermission! good mom reflexes for turning the movie off too!
Tarantino directed the United States side and Robert Rodriguez took the helm in Mexico.
One of my favorite movies with Tom savini is called Knightriders, it's about a troop of actors who do a traveling show as knights with Ed Harris as the king and Savini as the dark knight trying to usurp the King. They have lots of jousts, on motorcycles! Great B movie!
