The fact that you leave your mistakes in the video for the rest of us to learn from is admirable to say the least, hats off to you I appreciate your work!
I'm installing this exact same unit, and let me tell you. Boy, did it give me peace of mind knowing that you had the same issues as I did with the 2nd port. It made no sense because if you place it where it should go to get a bite, the actual pex patrudes past the studs, which would be the 1st that I've seen. It drove me vrazy yesterday installing it because I was like, that can't be right. Well, now I know thanks to you. Thanks for sharing your work experiences with the world! Very helpful, especially in a jam such as this Amazon unit. Lol
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU.!! U just saved me with this video. I already roughed in all my plumbing and was about to start with Baker board and tile and my ports would have been a half inch too deep. I kinda knew ( had a feeling) they were but was not sure so I searched and found your video and the way you explain everything you saved me big time. Now i can go add some wood to set it so I don't have the mistake. Your the best man. I don't sub to people because people don't explain probably in most videos when it comes to measurements but u got one from me
Ok, I'm building my shower now and roughing in my plumbing. I found this video because I saw this exact problem coming with the wand port. But if the drop ear is too far forward then the built in (non-adjustable) escutcheon plate on the wand port won't contact the wall. How the heck do you place it so the pipe seals exactly as the plate contacts the tile? I'm going insane over this. My house is sliding down a hill, pipes bursting in the cold, corroding underground plumbing, and the only problem I can't figure out is this %#&@ing shower wand port. An added layer of difficulty is that I'm not actually installing the tile. I outsourced that job. Did you get yours to work?
Thanks for the Vid and including the installation hurdles! The drop ear depth saved me, thanks:-)!
This was a great demonstration of the installation and workaround for the mistakes.
The problem I have is if say 5 years down the road, if something breaks, you are looking at replacing the whole unit instead of grabbing a $40 Delta valve at Home Depot
glad i watched this. I just bought the tub/shower version of this for a bathroom I'm currently doing. great job as usual. Ive learned alot from your videos, even going back to your former channel.
Awesome! Thank you!
wow! thanks for making this video. im about to install one of these faucets tomorrow and ive been a little stressed out because ive never installed one of these. there isn't much in the way of instructions in the packaging either. I feel much better about the task at hand.
I know I'm a year late to this video, but I recently installed one of these systems and had the exact same issue with the port. I had to get an extension for mine. Everything else about the system is great.
Thank you for your honesty
I’m about to frame two side by side showers for the plumber. I watched your vid hoping to get some good tips since I’m doing the tiling also. Awesome video.
Insanely good tips. Valuable info
Thank you very much for sharing this video 🙏
P.S. Your subscribers are multiplying! Nice job, you deserve it!
Just going through this now myself with the same brand Gabrylly. except mine is a little different than yours. Mine is 1/2 NPT for the wall end but 1/2 NPT on the hand held end but it has an o-ring. I am thinking i can use just a little longer nipple. I like the idea of cutting down the escutcheon. I may try that.
You r bad ass dude thanks for the lesson!
Thanks I'm about to install one of these junk valves and this Def helped me avoid a headache. Although I assumed it needed to be flush anyway...leaving the piping out of the wall...dumb idea so I'm planning to put the drop ear recessed with a nipple and a coupling flush to the tile .... more joints to leak but this valve is not well thought out on the trim side of things....
Exactly, u can only bring a drop ear out so far before the piping you connect to it interferes with the backer board. Better way to go 👍 recess back and use an extension amzn.to/3RTBMsg
Great video, love your IG 😎🛠️😎🛠️😎 the struggle is real
👍 thanks for following
Good video
Hey Steve,
I'm using a similar valve. I didn't use a waterproof membrane amd instead used the foam boards. Is it necessary to install a waterproof membrane around the valve and for the port tub, shower and handheld? I'm trying to figure out if there's a benefit since the foamboard is waterproof already??
got a similar sun rise shower put in but i'm not pleased with the pressure, is there a restrictor anywhere in the system i can remove?
👍Thank you!
what is the acceptable water pressure to operate this unit....normal 35-55 psi such as well pump pressure...or do you need a booster?
I am considering one of these Amazon systems, but Plumbers really seem to hate them... ALOT. I take reviews on anything these days with a grain of salt. I might spend a little more up front for Delta for more piece of mind. Would be great to see how these units really hold up after a couple years of daily use.
Was this valve installed in a 2x3 studded wall?
The Lordear one I am installing the escutcheon slides and is not affixed. However what we wound up doing is cutting the tile hole larger so we can screw the fitting flush to the Kerdi liner and slide the escutcheon to the tile face and silicone it.
I bought a similar one and the same o rings leaked...back pressure causes it to leak...did you buy a different wand holder...
That’s my problem with the Amazon fixtures. There’s no play at all with the depth. A set like this made me look like a dumbass once so now I steer customers away from them. It’s really hard to get the right depth especially when the wall is out of plumb and you wet shim or build the tile out to plumb up the wall. Even using nipples sometimes isn’t precise enough. If they would make the install easier I would be on board.
I just install one and the handheld holder was out like 3/16 and that was to far out to make it flush. I wish they'll sell a thicker plate in case something like this happens.
Thanks for your video and the information you shared, I get 2 of them but it looks like they had a different names.
this video will help me with the installation, but how about your customer experience after that. I am so afraid honestly.
I may try to retune it back.
Exactly 👍 I should of pointed that out in this video. Can’t very well set a drop ear outside the studs 1” without having pipe being out too 😆 from now on I may just simply use these extension couplings - amzn.to/3kWKubH
Can you please let me know where you purchased the shower door on this video and possibly a name?
I just installed one but when I loose it water comes out but when close it the water doesn't come out The valve in there doesn't release the water to flow
Ha! I had to learn the hard way about wrapping the pipe tape 🤦♀
Wrap the tape around a pencil or dowel end then it will be much easier to wrap around the threads.
did the shower system hold up for the home owner? I see a lot of review saying there are problems so wanted to see what you thought of the long term quality.
Yep... read the reviews as well... seems the shower head and hand held body spray are both made of plastic ... with the fake metal finish wearing off within months.
That plate not being secured is concerning but the set-up looks great! Wondering if the manufacture has a 2 screw replacement plate for this?
That’s all it would have taken…2 screws 😆
Do you put the shower ell flush with finish tile? The instructions say to do but I don’t get how you would since the pipe will be outside the studs.
I tried and I couldn’t. Two ways: or install deeper and add adapter/extension or install flush with wall and cut the tile like him.
Is there a full version of this video that shows everything( there are are shorts created from the footage that I don’t see in this video

Did u use 1/2” pex all the way around to the shower head and to sprayer?
Yep 👍
I set the drop ear as far in as I could go and it still didn’t work. The pex was touching the back side of the backer and the drop ear was flush with backer. Couldn’t come out any more. Tried to install parts and it’s set too far back. I ordered the extensions, but they may actually stick out too much what a pain to work with. They should double the length of the nipple and make the plate thicker.
That sucks, yeah from now on I think I might just set back enough to allow the extensions to work. Can always cut those down if your in a weird position.
It is BS. If the tile layer is too thick there’s no way of getting drop eat out far enough
I have installed a few of these now so what I have done is used a drop ear and a 1” nipple and a coupler and have it sitting about 1-1/4”past the stud so when it is finished it should be sitting half of the thickness of your tile

The depth of the wing-eared ell is not the problem. For decades odd-shaped shower arms were equipped with female threads. That way you could use any length brass nipple you needed out of your nipple tray. Now, thanks to everybody buying China crap off the internet, these so-called plumbers are making excuses for the products being made incorrectly.
I wouldn't use sharkbite products, yeah it's easy to use, but it's a problem with leaks. I had to replace all of my sharkbite connections with compression connectors. sharkbite is the most expensive and most unreliable.
Would hate for that valve to need replacing since your buried the line valves behind the tile.
Veiga pex is the only pex
What happens when you need parts 10 years down the line?
Great question
You're probably ready for a remodel by then... or is that just my wife?
I asked that question on Wayfair and I actually got an answer. They sent a link to the cartridge and it's generic and cheap, the reason I think these set ups are so cheap. Buy one or two to have on hand.
@@bdyt do you have the link ?
Who cares , I’ll be long gone as a contractor
I already installed three of this valves kits. Is awful. Is almost impossible make the exactly depth.
Junk not allowed here in MA
Sounds like the installer goofed. Not the manufacturer lol
I would NOT trust that wand attachment with JUST and oring to seal. That thing gets banged around a lot. One bump and you got water damage and a complete tear out
the valve itself might be great, but trim pieces are garbage.
Yeah it was pretty odd the way escutcheon plate was to be set…
These faucets are junk.
Why you say that
