Can you discard the black plastic plate if you are not installing tile?
@@jeffcenters4969That’s what you screw the trim too I think
That blocking depth was exactly what I came here for! Another great video as always!
Same!
What if you’re adding backer board and tile which adds almost an inch. Wish he was a bit more specific
I moved into my new house 1 1/2 years ago this winter looking for a project while snowbound I started working on a basement build for a bedroom, living tv area, and a bathroom with delta shower 4 piece, vanity, and toilet. The area was already rough plumbed so made life easier. I’ve insulated with 2” Foamboard then 2x4 studs, built doorways, boxed in the egress window. I’ve added outlet boxes and have run wiring to each. If I’m ever stumped on any part of the job I immediately refer to UA-cam. I find my self going to your videos quite often based on how you teach each process. Thanks so much you have a real talent not only on the work you do but your ability to make the viewer able to do the job.
Thank you! Plumbers here are quoting 1800-2000 per shower valve. I did down to studs to save on a repipe but I feel like it’s more expensive! You are a life saver.
Dude, you have helped me so much because you don't over analyze things and you throw out the distances you use whether it be plumbing, electric, whatever.. There are so many videos that send the listener through so much analysis without committing, and it leaves me not wanting to do the project. Like here, you commit to the valve blocking flush to back of 2 studs which is just what I planned to do. You gave me the confirmation I needed. I'm using Delta like your example I think. Thanks very much!!
I’m a tile guy and Lost a lot of jobs not knowing how to do my own plumbing. this was very helpful thank you!!
I agree with Oakley below. I am an elementary school teacher. You teach like a pro. You never forget to explain the 'why' which is important, especially to people like me. You are phenomenal: easy on the ear, videos are clear and well lighted, professional and the editing is appropriate, for example, the video is sped up when doing something repetitious. Honestly, great job!
Cool very informative
Currently building my own house and I’m loving your channel. Anything I’m a little confused on, chances are you’ve got a video for it. Really appreciate the time you’ve taken to do this, and the production quality.
Hey nice job for a non plumber no offense, but I have a hard time with no copper whips on that valve. Just me
I am building a house and your videos have helped me so much! You make things so simple to understand. Thank you!
You have some really great videos, well-presented and a friendly personality. I certainly have some new-found confidence that I can pull off plumbing that I feared before. Nothing like building technology to make life easier.
Nice videos with good explanation. Could do without the loud music which is distracting.
Yes, thank you. The music was distracting.
Agreed such a great video and sound is just bit to high
It's his video. Good job man
Somebody needs to tell the garage band not to play while he's doing his video
As a DIYer, I came across your channel yesterday and I like the detail step by step instructions as well as visuals in the videos. This will help me with my bathroom reno that I am planning to do. Thanks, New subscriber
Man i been looking for a video to show me how to install from zero... Man you only not earned my like also my follow
Short, precise, and comprehensive video. Thank you boss!
learned a great deal from your videos thank you. also agree, no music or keep it very low
My teacher I appreciate your videos very explaining I been watching your videos and I've done replacing the old water pipes to pex in my house.
Thank you and keep doing great videos
That is so cool! I hope everything goes well with your projects. Thanks a lot for watching!
Thank you for another GREAT video! You have helped me so much with my renovation! Definitely one of the best channels on UA-cam....
Great video as I am redoing my shower and I just purchased that exact Delta Shower valve. Well explained instructions. Tx
Just started a plumbing job love your videos
Thank you for letting me know! Good luck with your project 💪
This is the most informational and the most comprehensive building channel on youtube by far. I cant thank you enough for your content. There should be 1 mill subscribers for this channel. I have turned 5 people on to this amazing channel this week
Nice job Josh! I had to cut open the drywall and fix HO plumbing because the “remodeler’s” didn’t crimp the plumbing or test it.
One of the best. Thank you. Keep them coming!
Never commented on UA-cam before. But wanted to say thank you for the great videos.
Congratulations on your first comment! I appreciate you letting me know that you are grateful for the video. I appreciate you for watching!
Just the video I needed for todays project !
Thanks for another great video and explanation of how you do install everything, Most of the valves I install are delta but I keep the delta valves with the integrated stops that way I don't have to shut the water down again after the tile gets installed, just to put the cartridge, and face plates on.
And thanks again for the video.
I feel like Delta is the simplest and most universal ones to install. Have you noticed plumbing parts are cheaper on Amazon than they are at Lowe’s and Home Depot?
@@TheExcellentLaborer yes I buy alot from Amazon , I'll have to check out your store to help support your videos
Nice work my guy!!! I am currently taking a plumbing class, so seeing your step by step tutorial on this was so easy to watch and grasp because i saw and assisted in that same exact process in class
I like your “to the point” videos a lot - keep up the great work. As always liked & subscribed 👍🏽
Well done. As a Professional we would solder pex adapters to the valve or use the Delta valve with pex connections amd solder a pex adapter on the riser. The only major leaks that have cost me money has been female adapters splitting. We just don't use them anymore due to the low alloy quality and potential of leak. If a homeowner does not.want to solder then use a 1/2" brass coupling amd use pex male adapters. Yes it will add $20 or so to the cost of the install but worth it .
Great explanation great attitude good job
I really enjoyed the video and learn some things about pecks great job thank you
Thanks Josh very nice explanation
Thank you very much for that! The music is awful but your teaching is terrific! 😂😊
Always great no bs instructions. 👍 👍

You need to open up a school for the home builder young man
Your videos are exceptional, educational and well presented
I love them.
Keep them coming please
Am sure they re educating and benefiting a lot of us in the construction field.
Thanks a lot .
Hey man, great video, clear & concise. One thing i noticed was the depth of the shower valve. I was under the impression the black mudshield needs to be flush with the finished wall. With 5/8" drywall, & 1/4" tile, that's almost 1" protrusion past the stud face. It's hard to tell from the video, but wouldn't the shower valve depth need to come foreward more?. Ty hope to hear back
Great Work!!!
Thanks very helpful
Another good video. Thank you.
thank you excellent video, very helpful
Thank you Mehdi!
Good instructional video buddy. Keep it goin
thank you you video help me a lot
Glad I could help!
Excellent video
Thank you Jessie!
Hey Josh! Great video yet again. My winter project is gonna be a bathroom install in my basement. I’m pretty comfortable with everything. The one thing I was wondering was the valve depth placement which you covered. Would that be a good depth for a tile shower as well or should it not be as deep? Not sure if I’m going tile or fiberglass yet.
The depth of everything shown here will work for tile showers. Good luck on your project!
Whenever I can I eliminate extra fittings. It looks like the cold water side had room to bend without crimping. Smooth turns save money and give better flow. Nice vid thanks for all your uploads! ✌🏻🇺🇸
Thanks for sharing!
When you bend the pipes you end up with leaks on the crimped connections.
@@F.J._Claes that’s why I said bend without crimping. Smooth bends allow better flow and help eliminate fittings. Which restrict flow.
@@tallpaul8880 What GTR is saying is if you bend the pipe the way you are suggesting , it will put pressure on the part where the PEX connects the VALVE. Thus causing a leak. In most scenarios the installation will have to be done like in the video. And if you are crimping correctly you should have no leaks.
you can use bend guides or 3/4 PVC conduit to eliminate tension from curved pipe, trading that cost vs elbow
excellent video again very thorough as usual!! 29.k subs Tuesday September 14, 2021!!!
So close to 30K! I love how you time stamp these comments. So cool Thor!
Very good job
Great video. Can I ask you about the valve body/rough position behind the finished wall: tile thickness, backer board and thin set thickness varies a bit from one installation to the next (+/- 1/4"). Would the trim kit support different thicknesses or does the position of the body need to adjusted to be a specific distance from the finished wall?
Thank you
So much! I hooked up the hot and cold and it worked well.
I just have one question. Is it okay to have the hot and cold water on while the valve does not yet have the cartridge in just the test plug?
Wouldn’t affect the water temperature to the rest of the home?
very helpful..thank u so much..
Thanks you so much!
Tanks for chering
You got it! Thanks for watching!!
Thank you very much
Dude you are awesome. Liked and subscribed. Thank you, thank you.

Love your videos! This one was great as well! Thank you!
Thanks a lot Randy! I really enjoy making videos for UA-cam. I’m so thankful people like you are watching!
Great Video 👍
Thank you! I hope it helps!
How you fix a really small leak at the brass coupling? I used only Teflon tape and after turning on the water, it takes about 20+ mins to build up a single bead of water?
Hi I was going to remodel my bathroom but I'm not good at soldering. So is the pex system better than soldering? Thanks
Are you using 2x6 studs on either side of where you’re placing the valve? I’ve got 2x4’s. How do I mount it flush with the back of the 2x4 like you described at 4:02-4:07?
I will be soon installing a shower valve and I will be using for the 1st time Pex A with the Pex A fittings that are expansions fittings. I've never used these before and was wondering if the 1/2" female to pex adapters you used for your Pex B pipe are the same adapters for Pex A pipe, or are there Pex A fittings I need to get for this application. Also, do they make a fitting that gets soldered on rather than screwed on with tape and joint compound. I liked your video.
Thank you so much! No one else said how far in you need to set the handle. Gosh dang, you just earned a like. You should edit your title that the video includes depth setting dimension.
So I have to set the 1/2 hard backer board 3/4” off of the studs to clear the tub lip. I really hope I can get this right. From what it looks like here, that extra 3/4 shim wont hurt the shower head, not sure about the tub spout. Wish you would have shown the tub portion, maybe I can find that on another video
If you have half inch backer board and quarter inch tile that would put you at 3/4 inch. It should be totally fine. I hope that helps. Thanks a lot for watching!
@@Monuments_to_Good_Intentions lots of videos and debate on this. Take a look at your installation instructions to be sure, but you usually run your backer board all the way to the lip…you don’t go over it. However, your tile does. Some will say I’m wrong, other will say I’m spot on…but that’s UA-cam.
Excellent, love this information, thank you, phx az
You are welcome! I’m glad you are enjoying the content. Good luck with your project!
Do you discard the black peice if doing a fiberglass tub? Or is it supposed to go behind the fiberglass?
Great video. I noticed the pex adapter fitting has a pretty small internal diameter and with the elbow, are you getting enough water flow for a good shower? Can you get at least 10gpm at the top?
Question
If I'm converting an existing tub/shower combo to shower only, can I just cap the tub spout on valve instead of replacing the entire valve to this model in the video?? Thanks!
Hello , if im correct , you said the valve support block should be 2 inches back from the face of the stud ? Thank you for the video .
Hi, if I already have a Delta shower faucet and shower head but am going to install a new shower head and trim kit, can I use the existing shower valve or would I have to change out the valve / cartridge because it's a new shower head and trim kit? I am totally unfamiliar with this stuff!
Will the valve work correctly if you use the shower tub mixer and cap the tub outlet.Wonderimg because my mixer wont work.
Very nice video 👍👍👍
Thank you!
Which valve do you recommend for no tub, fix shower head and handheld shower spray?
Are the pex adapters necessary, does it make the pressure better? Is that the reason for use?
I have cpvc and sharkbites. Do I need the pex adapters and pex hose?
Love your videos! When can we get a video on hot water hook up with pex and vent?
Do you have to use a 90 on the install or can you just run the water line to the shower valve? Thanks
Great videos
I appreciate that!
Great video. Do you have a video showing the install of the trim kit?
I will have one coming out soon. Be sure to stay tuned!
Thanks!
Thank you for the support Dean! Good luck with your projects!
does the rough in plastic piece stay after drywall/cement board is up?
Hola.amigo.
Que estes muy bien y gracias a Dios por te has regalado un tiempo para regalar una informacion muy inportante

Does the black box need to be flush with the 2x4 or the outside of the tile
Can you use any shower valve or is brand specific? I getting a Moen or Kohler
Great video! So, I'm assuming, the plastic square remains on under the wall and tile and your finished tile should be flush with it? Thanks!!
Yes after the tile it will be about flush or slightly recessed. Hope that helps. Thanks a lot for watching!
@@TheExcellentLaborer thank you!!
Where did you get the plug for the drop ear?
Is there ever an application where you would set the shower body block more forward or backward? My concern is for varying thickness of cement board and tile only to realize when installing the trim plate that the shower body is too short or long. Thank you
Always refer to rough in specs for valve depths.cause they vary and most valves you can't get extension kit.
How high do you place your drop ear from your valve and how high is the valve from the floor
I always wondered why they have a threaded connection… I would be nervous to plant that behind the Sheetrock. For longevity, I would sweat in the pex fitting
After crimping the copper ring and checking it with a go Nogo tool I’ve noticed that it only slides on there one way it will not make a complete circle like the ring is maybe oblong instead of completely round is this normal or possibly from a cheap Chinese crimping tool that I purchased.
Very helpful and informative video. My suggestion though... your explanations are great, but the loud music is not necessary. Thanks for the tips. I may give it a try on my upcoming project.
I bought the delta valve, attached the fntp with pipe tape and dope. Then, realized... I used type a fitting. Is there anyway I can transition w adaptor or something. Unable to remove fittings. And I now have the correct fnpt fittings.
That was good
Okay I have a 2 × 3 stud wall how far does the showerhead go and how far does the shower valve need to be being this is in a mobile home
Hi Josh
Thank you for the video. May I ask what the lifetime of this pex pipe is (I'm assuming pex B). If you can share why you chose B instead of A? Thanks again and great videos. 👍 😊
