I am so happy you started your Morbid Angel journey!!! 😊 This is a great one to begin with, a shower but hevy with much atmosphere!! I also recommend "Chaoel of Ghouls" off their magnificent Altars of Nadness album, a much faster and atmospheric song as well. Also *Hatework", another slower, little doomy, havey and akso atmospheric. I adore you and your reactions Hun!!! 🌹🌹❤️❤️❤️

This is just so disturbing,...but great. I played it to a few friends as an example of great death metal stuff and received mixed reactions, to say so... But funny enough one of the guys did the "bow to me splendidly" just as an aside much later. He never said he liked it but he did remember it!

I share a lot of common friends with the lead singer Dave. Met him many times over the years. Really cool dude. He and his wife used to throw some wild parties.

Thanks for reacting. This was was my first song from them I had heard. It is about God and Satan. Most of their songs are roughly the same subject matter. Especially in songs like "Unholy Blasphemies" and "Abominations" from the Blessed are the Sick album. But their second, Blessed are the Sick, third, Covenant, and fourth, Domination, I think are their best albums. Loved David Vincent's vocals. Wasn't so much of a fan when Steve Tucker took over vocals. I was lucky enough to see them twice, once when they opened for Pantera on Pantera's final tour and again for the 25th anniversary of Covenant and they brought back David Vincent to play the entire album for their set. This brings back so many memories from my college days. Anyway, if you would like more songs from them, the two mentioned earlier, Rapture or Lions Den from this album or Dominate or Hatework from the Domination album. Keep up the good work.

The greatest Death Metal song ever created. Fall From Grace, Blessed Are the Sick, Where The Slime Live, Eyes To See, Nothing Is Not, and Rapture are up there as well. Actually, you cannot go wrong with anything from the first 7 albums, even Heretic.

Very good analysis of this amazing song from MORBID ANGEL, at the height of vocalist David Vincent's power!!! 😈 The lyrics are definitely coming from the perspective of "The Devil", but using different names. 𖤐
The "emptiness" that the song is referencing, is the *limitless potential* that The Devil offers to humanity, much to the envy of the Christian God, who demands adherence to Orthodoxy. That Christians React channel sees part of the lyrics as being the words of God, but I definitely think that all the of words are coming from The Devil's perspective. David Vincent clearly states in video interviews that he leaves his songs up to individual interpretation.
Please react to MORBID ANGEL's song Prayer Of Hatred, which is from their 1998 "comeback album" Formulas Fatal To The Flesh! 🙏🏼 Then new bassist/vocalist Steve Tucker took the band to a different level of guttural brutality, drummer Pete Sandoval played the blast-beats like his life depended on it, and guitarist/lyricist Trey Azagthoth explored his fascinations with Dark Sumerian Mysticism to a frightening level of depth:

Whaaaat? This feels SO long ago since I recommended the song.
Is this a re-upload of old footage?
    Well, nevertheless. ...
What is kind of interesting about the lyrics, they are so open to interpretation, you can OF COURSE, read them as being about satan. The apple thing - you totally got that.
Personally, I thought it could be read with a sexual underlying sub-meaning, like about BDSM, which I always found a funny way to interprete things. Most probably there are a dozen other ways to read it.
A song that surprised on many levels. Very slow base tempo for death metal. Insane drumming. Crazy transitions where you do not expect them. A very extraordinary song.
Long time no see, dear neon petunia.
Still glimpsing into your channel regularly, just not commenting that often anymore. ;-)
Have a great week and all the best!
    Martin.

@@neonskepetunije No problem, Dejana, one advantage of getting older is, that a few years are not much in relation to the lifetime anymore. Time is very relative and subjective. Psychology and physics see this in very similar ways. ;-) So, always nice to have a good conversation, a smile, and good music! Cheers! 🙂

Prototypical was introduced to 'MORBID ANGEL' through various purchased obscure physical CD imports, via Earache Records (British independent record label).
One particular record which was titled "Covenant" (1993).
Morbid Angel had cultivated an impressive following. So impressive, in fact, that they, like a number of top tier death metal bands at the time, had begun to recieve attention from mainstream media outlets which had recently begun to take note of extreme metal. This was in no small part helped along by MTV's playing of such artists on their 'Headbanger's Ball' metal show. But more importantly was 'Earache Records' (one of if not the largest extreme metal specialty labels in the world) attempted partnership with Giant Records (a subdivision of Warner Broters, Inc.). This partnership was a move to theoretically bring metal into the mainstream and accordingly increase revenue for both labels. This record would have two new music videos, one of which made an appearance on the Beavis & Butthead TV show.
To be concise, there are two main things that make this an untouchable and legendary record. First, the fact it's one of the very rare death metal records that is both catchy yet still retains all of its underground authentic quality. It's just so easy to listen to in contrast with most death metal that is purposely made to be inaccessible. This, despite its wild originality, you just press play and enjoy the ride. There are no unpleasant bumps on the road, no "compromise songs" to tolerate or weak moments to skip. The production is surprisingly crisp for the early 90's and it procures a sense of width and depth like few or none of the genre's albums at the time. It's nice and sharp sounding, and very modern in that sense at a time when your average death metal record even amongst the popular ones could sound pretty muddy (albeit part of the charm of archaic classic death metal).
The second thing is the mystical, secret aura the album managed to achieve. There's an eerie subtlety to it that pushes the boundaries of any conventional music. Where about 99% of death metal albums at the time were focused on technicalities like speed of the music and complicated riffs, Azagthoth and gang had their minds set on something greater: making death metal that sounds like it's actually Luciferian. A supreme breed of death metal that felt like it was reaching for the divine, like it had a form of dark reverence to it.
Parts like the main riff to 'Rapture', the tremolo melodic riff on 'Pain Divine', the atmospheric 'World of Shit', or of course the infamous final track... all carry that powerful epic darkness, as if from another world. The album is as relentless as it is esoteric and hidden. It's otherworldly and strange, yet utterly accessible all at once. This central aspect of the Morbid Angel sound was quite prevalent on the previous album, and everyone has their own favorite, but Covenant tightened up the composition and offered a catalog of concise songs so iconic it would be difficult not to remember them.
Unfortunately David Vincent's bass is buried under the frenzied guitar work of Trey Azagthoth but it does shine at certain moments. You can hear it in songs like "God of Emptiness" and "Sworn to the Black," but his vocal work more than makes up for it. His vocals are absolutely bestial and quite guttural for the early 90s.
'God Of Emptiness', one of the most famous tracks Morbid Angel ever released. It still stands as one of their crowning achievements. The only song that stays at a low tempo throughout. The quality that makes this song so essential is almost unquantifiable; is it the 'progressiveness' of such a track on a release that is mostly defined by its good-natured regression :)
