Hello this is AvidAethon, the former owner of Oof Legacy. I'd like to give some commentary on the video and point out some inaccuracies. As the game is no longer in my hands I can't really give you guys the closure you deserve, but I did write another comment on this video that summarizes what happened with the development team and why the game was essentially in development hell for so long. 2:49 I'll be honest most of the silence from the development team was because we REALLY did not want to let fans down, but we really did not want to work on the game either, as it had so many issues in development that it would've been better if we had remade it from the ground up. Updates were becoming increasingly more difficult to make, because scripting of the game was a mess and so many scripts would conflict with each other, this was mainly due to how rushed some of the updates were, Mage was dead set on pumping out updates as quickly as possible, which is understandable because while the game had a large player base you'd want to do everything in your power to keep that ball rolling. But he was rushing things too much and it was stressful for both Uglyburger0 and I, we were set on making the quality of the game improve with each update, while mage was set on pumping out more content quickly. We originally planned 10 worlds, and with each world the game would get more advanced while still mostly keeping the same style, to show that people getting ahold of the computer were getting better and better at using it, making the villains seem more and more powerful. 3:47 Mage had an issue of giving false promises. I stayed very in touch with the community and was very active on the Discord server, after seeing all the backlash from the community I kept telling him to hold back from putting release dates in his announcements since they were so inconsistent and we rarely ever met those release dates for updates. But all that did was lead to more silence. I'd also like to point out that mage stayed out of the community and rarely spoke to them, and he was dead set on ignoring their criticisms. 4:30 Mage was set on re-releasing the holiday events as a way to make more profits off the game while delaying the final update. And he ended up getting carried away with updating Eat And Destroy instead of finishing Uuhhh.wav, because it would make more money, which explains the delay. 6:29 I used to share a lot with the community early into the development, and I had to stop myself mainly because I got into spoiler territory a couple of times lol. I wanted to update everyone on the problems with development, but most of it was personal issues between me and Mage that shouldn't have been shared publicly because it would've led to unwanted drama. Though I still very much consider speaking out and telling the full story without keeping out the personal issues, but considering Mage owns the game now he has all the power and could try to get the community against me, which is why I have stayed silent.
Thank you for speaking out man, even if the games no loner being worked on, it's at least good to get another side of the story. I wish you good luck on your future projects man. 👍👍
could you tell roblox about this? or law suit if you have professional lawyers i loved this game when it came out i was one of the first 1000 people to even play it i hope on my life it comes back
I still play your game to this day.. and haven't even beaten world 5 because idk I think I played this like 2 years ago- but I like it again I guess. maybe hire some people that might be good (it might take awhile to find someone to take over tho)
I recently was scrolling through my favorites to rediscover your game. I got a whip of nostalgia from the old vintage roblox style. I'm glad this game existed, even if it never will be completed. I was happy to play it again. If possible, I would love to make a remastered version of this game for modern roblox, with how much slop is on the front page. Best of wishes, some stranger on the internet.
this is definitely one of my top 3 games of all time. the story is so good. i remember playing for the first time and i immediately fell in love. that being said i really want to see this game make a comeback, cuz roblox is dry right now and it will be super fun to play an update on one of my favorite games again
i remember playing this game in 2019. I beat the first 3 bosses and i was amazed at the experience it gave me. When I got to the “ban land” (it simply took to long to update if there was an update) ,it was not finished. I waited and waited until I gave up. I forgot about this game until today, and after realising it was never gonna be finished, I felt incomplete. Just like the game.
Hey this is AvidAethon, the former owner of Oof Legacy. I just wanted to share the full story. I'll start by giving you the development history and I'll later get into why ownership was passed to Magicmage12345 and why the team split up. Originally the game was my own side project that I was working on by myself, but Mage got involved around the time I had started making the jungle level of world 1 and I accepted his help. Previously Mage and I had been making games together for years but they all flopped or never made it past development hell. I wanted to try making a more comedic and light hearted game since our previous projects were taken too seriously and development was so strict that we were struggling to enjoy it. I was the lead of the project since I had made the basic structure of it, and the idea was mine. The game was created equally between Magicmage12345 and I, and we later introduced our friend Uglyburger0 to the development team. Mage and I were the only developers during the first 2 worlds, world 1 was mostly made by me, and world 2 was mostly made by Mage. Then world 3 was a collaboration between Uglyburger0 and I, Uglyburger0 made the Disco man boss fight and also helped make the minigames part of the game. Uglyburger0 left development during world 4 due to him and Mage not agreeing on a lot of development related issues, and how strict mage was. I was struggling with school and relationship issues during the development of worlds 4 and 5, and so Mage decided to make them without me and loosely followed the unfinished plans I had made for those worlds, they became quite different from what I had originally planned, which caused some arguing between us, especially when I wanted to be a part of the development of those worlds. I took a big break during that to get my grades up and to try to overcome being depressed but it was a struggle and Mage was very impatient with me. During that time I was coming to terms with some things about myself, which Mage rejected and "didn't agree with", and that beat me down further and led to a lot of issues in our friendship. I was finally working towards being happier and getting over the insecurities I had and the bullying I faced, but he ruined that and kept making things worse. I was very selfless and easily manipulated at the time so I didn't do much to defend myself and I continued to work with him and be friends with him regardless. From the slow pace of updates, the criticisms of world 5, and the poor scripting that kept leading to many bugs during the development of updates, we ended up both taking a break from the development of Uuhhh.wav. We took that time to improve our skills and that ended with us working on a game called Chaos Emblems (It was heavily inspired by games we liked at the time such as Octopath Traveler and Undertale). That game exceeded our expectations for Uuhhh.wav (from a development standpoint) and we spent an entire year on its development, but due to issues between Mage and I, the development kept getting slowed down and I personally was not happy with the end result since I had bigger plans for it, which also led to more arguing between us. Chaos Emblems never got finished but we ended up releasing the first two chapters. Chaos Emblems ended up never getting much traction and failed despite being our highest effort project and putting a year of work into it, so we decided to make a more profitable game that would be able to fund it, but we wanted something simple so it wouldn't take away time to work on other projects, so we got the idea to make one of those trendy eating simulators but with our own twist to it, we spent 2 months creating Eat and Destroy, and to our surprise it ended up being our highest earning game. But during the time of Eat and Destroy's release we were going through a lot of personal issues, and it made me really realize how greedy Mage was, and how fake our friendship had become. It not only felt like we were using each other, but Mage was very against me for who I was despite it harming nobody, and I couldn't keep myself in a toxic "friendship" where I was constantly talked down to and misunderstood. I kept distant during that time and tried to keep anything personal out of our conversations and we pretty much just only talked to work on our games. Chaos Emblems was still failing to gain attention despite our attempt to fund it again, so we ended up deciding to make a game that would be a nice middleground, something that would be high effort and similar to Chaos Emblems, but also profitable and replayable like Eat and Destroy. We started working on a game called Dimensional Key, though it never got finished either. Our friendship remained just as toxic, and I had been venting my frustrations to my other friends, and they helped me defend myself against him, which only led to more issues between me and Mage, it got so toxic that I had to stop being friends with him and cut all contact entirely. Before blocking mage I came to the decision to quit game development on Roblox, or at least take a long break after going through all that, and we agreed that I would pass ownership of the games to Mage so he could update them, but we agreed that he had to give me a portion of the profits since we made the games together originally. But he ended up never keeping his word and stole months worth of profits from Eat and Destroy and owes me well over $1,000 by now. I deeply regret giving him ownership of Oof Legacy, but I did it out of desperation to get him out of my life, I knew that if I kept ownership he would keep getting in contact with me on alt accounts so I gave it up, I also gave up ownership because I knew I wouldn't be working on the games anymore and at least Mage would be able to give the fans something, though he rarely did any work on the games since my leave and he actually started up a new game called Anime Galaxies and that game recycled a lot of scripts and GUI assets that I made for Dimensional Key without my permission... So giving him ownership was a huge mistake. It would've been better if I just took a one year break, then came back and finished the game by myself...
I'm doing a lot better nowadays, I cut Mage out of my life and no longer communicate with him, I quit roblox for the time being and got a job, I have better friends, I'm in a relationship, and I've been going to therapy (for several reasons). Unfortunately Mage is the only one in charge of Oof Legacy's projects and he revoked all my permissions and refuses to pay me for the games we made together and there's nothing I can do about the situation...
That must've been a long story. Seems very tragic. I feel bad for how your life was going. Mage was a good friend at first but then it got worst. Wonder how stuff goes. I loved this game when I saw it. Giving the ownership to mage was disappointing. I really wanted this game to be finished. It's literally my childhood.
This game has a mass of nostalgia. And actually, you missed the chance to mention Tofuu (a guy that I found the game through). This game really had a lot of potential. Mage had an issue of giving false promises.
