So great to hear from you and see Beau! You both look terrific! Hang in there, the first month or two is the toughest part. I remember when I had my first, my pediatrician said "the first 8 weeks are just all about survival!" And it's the truth! Remember how important it is to take care of yourself too. Accept help any time it's offered. You're doing a GREAT job! XO

Shields are a real pain. I had to use them too and only managed to get rid of them in the last week (my baby is almost 7 weeks old). She just needed some time to grow and then one day when I tried she was strong enough to suck and stay on. Don't be disheartened, it can be done. I was so anxious and upset about the shields and felt like I had to wean her off them asap but we just needed time and for her to grow. I've now done almost a week without exclusively using shields (I use them for my middle of the night feeds and when my nipples are too sore). She was a big baby (9 pounds) too, I know lots of people who have used shields and successfully got rid of them and continued to breastfeed. You got this mamma.
I've also found my feeds have decreased in length (from an hour to about 30min) without the shield because she feeds more efficiently.
Motherhood, such a wild ride huh? Def harder than what I expected but I try to just take things one day at a time and celebrate the small wins 😊

I'm so glad your little baby Beau is here safely and is perfect! It is a journey and it really does take months to start feeling back to your old self. It will all be okay. He is adorable!

Look up breastfeeding support groups in your area. There are lactation consultants there that can help him get off the nipple shield. The shield isn’t a huge issue other than the hassle and it can make it a little harder for them to completely drain the breast. We used the shield for 2 1/2 months, then I finally just took it away and refused to use it again. Once we got rid of the shield he gained weight like crazy and we went on to nurse exclusively with no issues. We stopped at 2 years old when I got pregnant again. We did find out when he was 18 months that he had a tongue tie, so that explained the pain. But we just fought through it.

Sounds like he is going through a growth spurt. What helped me heal quickly is just getting up and moving a lot. 8 Hours after my c section I was walking around the halls with my daughter on my shoulder. But each section is different and it is quite painful in the beginning. hope you feel better soon.

He is so adorable, and you are glowing as a mommy!! I said this before but my son's name is Bo also, different spelling obviously. So I'm very attached to that name! Congratulations to you and your husband on the birth of your handsome boy!!😍

So happy for you!! He is beautiful! I feel you on the guilt front. We had our twin girls on August 24th via csection. I struggled really hard the first week. Nothing but tears around breastfeeding. My milk never came in. Recovery is hard. Take your time and be easy on yourself. ❤️ for you and your sweet family!

Glad to see you are ok! Be thankful we live in North America, and women have access to services after childbirth. In Thailand, medical service must be paid in advance before treatment even for kids. The hospital I was in didn't try to help with latching, and I did try the shield but my nipple was cracked, my daughter had Colic and I just went with the bottle. In the hospital, they gave me Enfamil Nursers (pre made formula inside a 2 oz plastic bottle with a add on lid and nipple and I took some home after the hospital. It took several different formulas to find one that worked for us and it was soy based.

I was right with you. Once I came home after each C-section I stop taking the pain and used Advil. I also had guilt about using the pain pills the first 2-3 days because I too knew the my baby was probably getting trace amounts in my breastmilk. As for healing from my C-section if took me about 18 weeks both times. Mine were both breech. I think you are doing a wonderful job with your son! Also there were no long lasting side effects because I took pain pills and nursed. Keep up the good work with your son.

The discrepancy could be due the extra fdluids you are given from the csection. In some areas they are changing the procedures in regards to weighing directly after a csection and instead wating a bit because they think they inflate the birth weight, which in turn causes stress when they drop weight. My son dropped to 9% at discharge then 11% I think afterward but if they had waited, his drop probably would have been within normal range...i wouldn't worry too much about him being low right now as long as he maintains the curve...my son was below 10% for 6 months and then shot up and has since been around 50-60% percentile. The curve is mostly based on formula fed kids but you can take a look at the chart from the WHO which is world wide and based on breastfed kids., It may be more accurate. Glad you are sticking to breastfeeding. It does get a lot easier the 1st 3 weeks to 1 month is the hardest and it slowly gets easier...after a few months it will be a breeze. I know it might seem hard now but I started yoga 3 weeks after my csection and it helped so much with pain and rebuilding core strength. Maybe try it slowly. God Bless you all!

From Love to Baby Carriage oh interesting. Yea makes sense because he had a few massive spit ups of just fluid after the birth for sure... can't recall timing now though. Funny enough Eric found the growth chart from WHO early on when we were worrying and that definitely did ease our minds somewhat. ❤️

I didn't know you were from Canada! Are both of you? Does your dad live in Ireland? Things will get better soon. The newborn stage is so hard, especially being a new mom and recovering from a c-section. Give yourself a break because you're doing a good job!

We really are... back in Canada I worked as a teacher (art & drama) and had my own photography company (which was busiest in summers when I was off). I personally haven't been able to work here, but we moved down for Eric's job. He works in finance.

I had to leave my baby too when he was 2 weeks old because I went into heart failure from all the fluid. My boobs were leaking everywhere and the hospital couldn't find me a breast pump so I left against medical advice (AMA) and the doctors were telling me I could die if I left. I was like bye I'm going to feed my baby 🙈Even when your life is at risk nothing matters but your baby it's crazy! Beau is so cute, so happy you're getting settled and getting this mommy thing down! I wore my belly band for months. And 4 years later my c section scar is still numb! If you don't have a boppy they are life savers when feeding.

InBetweenDreams wow that must of been so hard, and gosh scary too!!! Yea, definitely still numb but have started gentle scar massage and hoping that helps a bit. Also have a lovely "shelf" going on 😒

Also ... I know easier said then done but don't feel guilty. You just carried him for 9 months !!! You did what you thought was impossible and now have the blessings of that. It will be fine you have the rest of your life to hold him it's OK 💙💙💙💙💙
