Acorns were a mainstay food source for Native American tribes in California. There should be a lot of history of it on the internet. It take an enormous amount of effort to become edible. The trees were owned by particular family groups and inherited down the generations.

Yes! For anyone interested in the subject, I cannot recommend highly enough the book Tending the Wild: Native American Knowledge and the Management of California’s Natural Resources by M Kat Anderson. Covers indigenous use of oak trees and other plants over a span of at least 10,000 years.

You could also pick one of the small not fullt ripened acorns on a stem, as in the beginning of the video..that will make a smokingpipe for froggy. Greetings from Sweden🇸🇪

We have over 90 oak varieties in the US that account for all the different types of acorns. In the UK, there are 4 native varieties, so you'll see all the different acorns too. You can identify the oaks by the acorns! Love your tea set!

Living in the midst of a dense woods, I’m fortunate to have made several such acorn tea sets and over the years, they found their way to little ones as “gifts from the forest fairies!” I love using the acorn caps as sweet hats for little dolls as well.
Your videos are all so lovely, peaceful, charming and inspiring! Thank you! ❤ Kathleen, USA

I remember doing this by myself during recess in primaryschool. We had a lovely giant oak tree on the schoolgrounds. I would collect the nicest acorns and assemble them into little dishes and teapots in class. I got into trouble for it and was made fun of though. I was the youngest in the class because I was put up two classes. So the "older" kids already had me on their radar as weird. I couldn't stop though. I built a little fairy house and hid it there too. It was smashed to bits. It still gives me a hollow feeling. But I sure loved that beautiful oak tree❤

I guessed the theme for the clock before you showed the book and I am really excited! I used to have plates on the wall of my bedroom with little scenes of the creatures in their houses as a child. They were Royal Doulton plates and i think there was one for each season.

In the US there are lots of different types of oaks: pin, white, Northern red, Southern red, bur, blue, and more and more. There have been two hurricanes that have wreaked havoc: Helene hit Florida and then traveled to North Carolina hitting Louisiana, Georgia, Tennesee, and then North Carolina. NC was hit terribly hard- then Milton hit Florida. Horrible

Can’t wait to see what is next! I look up bugs and little critters for my grandkids a lot. My sisters and I made tea sets like that when we were kids! We’d make the bottoms flat, modify the surfaces of some things, etc. by rubbing them on the sidewalk. A coarser bit of sidewalk (or sandpaper) makes sanding go faster, so saucers and plates don’t take long to make flat, nor bowl and cup bottoms. 🙂
We had both red oaks and white oaks in our yard, so we had two kinds of acorns too.
If you sand the outside of the cap, you get yet another texture, like suede. You can burnish the caps as well, to get something like snakeskin. 🙂
    Yes, we had weebles. 😁

I'll have to send you some of my acorns. I love them and can't walk past some without picking them up. The one you had with a hole in it would make a smashing dolls house bird box. Love the tea set if you modpodge it it should bring the colour back but they will fade with time.

Kate if you begin by picking a leaf that's been really eaten at by bugs, your curtain idea might work. Make them be a tapered ended shape, like a leaf; and maybe put another leaf, of a contrasting colour, behind. Unless you wanted the light coming through, the other colour behind would give the depth you often see on a patchwork skirt or something.

The brown powder could easily pass for turbinado sugar. A natural sugar with the molasses left in. Kinda like brown sugar, only not damp and packable, it's dry and sprinkles like table sugar.

That would be great for a mock baking event in the doll house! Reminds me of the classic Beatirx Potter story, "The Tale Of Two Mice (a favorite of mine)."😊 Alcould be used to make ink for teeny ink wells (black walnut is better, though). The acorn powder could also be used to sprinkle on glue around mini terracotta flower pots.
Fleur and Kate, I would love to see you two re-create scenes from her books for stop motion films and narrate them!❤❤❤

A little tip for getting the extra dust off the sandpaper, if you want to keep it... I use a brush. I have one I use specifically for such a thing, but I'd imagine any small brush will do. Mine is rather coarse, originally a brush used for inking, but I think a paintbrush or something would work just fine for dusting it into a pot or something.

Thanks again for your concern and comments about Florida. It’s greatly appreciated. I was able to get gas (petrol) today, so that was a happy thing. The local grocery stores have run out of bread, milk, and eggs but they do have plenty of water. I was able to find what I needed at another grocery store farther inland.
