My washer was struggling to get through a cycle and would hang when it shout spin so at the advice of another repair clinic video I replace the the actuator and it worked like a dream! Now I'm working on the next issue which is the loud noise (sounds like a jet engine taking off) so at the advice of this video I can't wait to replace the splutch.... these videos are tremendous! thank you!

I suppose I would say at best it is slightly less noisy. Any other suggestion for quieting this washer? Another thing I have noticed is something dirty is coming out of somewhere the the machine is running. I see greasy stuff on the plastic protective cover protecting the belt but I guess by replacing the splutch the greasy stuff coming out will stop?

@@garycut6952 Hello, sir. If there is oil coming out and covering the plastic protective, it's highly probable that the transmission had gone bad and may not be worth fixing it (a new washer could be more convenient).

Just a side note. The belt should be somewhat difficult to get on. If it's as easy to slip on as it is in this video, then the belt is stretched and should be replaced.
Alright, i have watched several of these videos, and while they are helpful, i keep noticing the absence of a list of visual clues that indicate if the part in question is really worn out or not. This is important information when your washer is exhibing problems that could be linked to several different failures.
I agree. I am replacing the splutch on mine, and the new part looks identical to the old part. I cannot find any visual clues to tell me if I am on the right path until I right the machine and see if it makes the noises again.

I have this washer, it is less than 2 years old.. The spin cycle does not work. I bought a new splutch before taking the old one apart. I just took the old one it and it looks fine. Not worn or damaged in any way. How do I troubleshoot the shift actuator -vs- the transmission? Should the smaller inner shaft drive anything when I turn it? When I turn that smaller inside shaft it spins freely.
@@repairclinic I should have mentioned the pulley is already loose. My whole problem started, I think, with the nut backing off a little bit. Now the pulley wobbles. I'm not sure if the pulley has a keyway to hold the shaft and broke or if it just slips on. Either way that nut is frozen where it is.
Cabrio WTW5700XW0 recently has become very loud. The whole machine really shakes during spin cycle Wife says spinning way faster than before. Maybe just her impression? Also says sometimes the closes are still very wet after the spin cycle ends. Ending prematurely? Could this also be a clutch/transmission issue? Thank you. My washer Roper only fills and agitates somewhat...and drains. Purchased the splutch kit and purchased the same shift actuator brand new same model for this washer. Then calibrated it. I am having the same issue. When I calibrate it and test to drain spin. It will drain but it will not spin. It attempts to spin. But the spin was like that last time, and I am still hearing grinding. What can be the problem here?????????

well... I think I'm coming to the end on this washer (wtw495oxwo) but... I've replaced the actuating unit, water pump, splutch assembly and belt after the spin cycle became fritzy. Following the replacement of the actuating unit everything was great for about 3 weeks. Now I simply can not get the load to spin out. The spin makes a noise and I do believe the internal drum moves a little then stops and unlocks the latch and sits there. I usually move the load around then restart and the same happens again. I've recalabrated the machine thinking something must be off and this has not helped. I'm wondering if there is something related to the drum that may have gone. There is a fair amount of play with the drum but it moves easily and does appear to be moving to some degree. Any suggestions?
I have a Kenmore HE Top Loading washer model #110.21302010 2-3 yo that is not agitating or spinning. I have so far replaced the lid switch hoping that might fix it, but no joy. Upon further inspection, the splutch and belt checked out good. The motor turns the drum 1/4 turn during the sensing part of a cycle but does not spin or agitate, washer fills and drains fine. If the motor is running, but not engaging the tub to spin or the agitator, the splutch is bad. If the motor isn’t running, the motor is either bad or not getting power to it. You should also check the motor capacitor to make sure it is good. There is no easy way to figure out what exactly the problem is . We recommend that you consult the tech sheet in the unit and follow the troubleshooting guide and get the diagnostic codes to help figure out the problem.
The transmission is just a couple of gears so I don’t think that is the problem. I suspect you may have worn gears on the splutch. You should probably replace the spluch assembly first and see if that fixes the problem. There are not a lot of other moving parts on this machine that would make noise in the wash cycle.

i have model @ wtw5700xwo and when trying to take the nut off the pulley the agitator is spinning. i am holding the pulley while trying to loosen. my bolt is stuck at the end and i can't get it off. any suggestions
Since the pulley is directly attached to the agitator the agitator will move with the pulley the only way to get the nut loose is to hold the pulley with a rag or hit the wrench with a hammer. The hammer blows will usually be enough to loosen the nut to remove it.

colleen brigham You can try striking the wrench sharply with a hammer to brake it loose after that it should come off easily. The other thing you could do is have someone open the lid and hold the tub while you turn the nut. Thanks for the question. Hope this helps.

My washing machine spin cycle works when it wants to. It sometimes spins for a little while then it will stop but continue to make the noise. Depending on which position I have the setting on, the washing machine will spin for a short period of time. What could be the issue? Is this the control board?
I got the same POS. Had it 2 yrs and it quit spinning the water out. At first, sometimes it would and sometimes it would not. Then it got to be all the time. New $25 shift actuator and recalibration and now it works fine (for probably a couple of years, maybe). You can get these for $299 and up but unless you can and don't mind working on them, don't buy these new Whirlpool's. If you can still find one of the Speed Queens with the mechanical timer, that is the one to buy. It's going to cost 2-3 times as much but is a MUCH better washing machine.

If the machine is not changing between agitate and spin, the problem is most likely in the splutch or shift actuator. Remove the splutch assembly to see if there is any damage to it.
My Whirlpool Cabrio washer (model #wtw5640xw3) won't agitate. We have gone through all of the diagnostic modes and don't receive any error. Can you tell me what part to replace? The belt looks fine.

Try putting some penetrating oil on it and letting it soak in for several minutes. Have a helper hold the pulley while you then try to loosen the bolt.

The rod is spinning with the nut so obviously the pulley is severely wallered out so how do I get the nut off with no way to hold the rod still

If you can get to the splutch assembly it's fine to lean the washer against the wall.

You just have to remove the nut holding the pulley in place.
What it the nut still spins while you hold the pulley? There is no resistance on the nut while holding the pulley. Can't get the nut to loosen.

Try to loosen it with an electric or air impact wrench and hope for the best. Lefty loosey.

I can't seem to remove the nut from the pulley.. It's like the bolt is fused on..What can I do to loosen the nut? Thanks :)
Try putting some penetrating oil on it and letting it soak in for several minutes. Have a helper hold the pulley while you then try to loosen the bolt.

Speed Queen. There basic and pricey but built on the same line as there commercial machines. Motors and Transmissions have 15 year warranty.
I suggest traveling backwards through time to the late 1980's and buying a Whirlpool design 2000 washer.
