    I've seen many videos of carving owls and such. Yours are very informative and your pacing is spot on!!

    I retired from the metal/welding business after 30 years. I moved back to where it all began for me. Back on the family ranch in Texas. The ranch got hit with Oak Wilt 15/20 years ago. Killed 60% of our oaks! Some with a diameter of 10ft or more. There are literally hundreds of HUGE seasoned dead oak trees on my property. I didn't want to get in the fire wood business but I didn't want the wood to rot. Then I saw one of YOUR videos! I'm starting my first chain saw carving today. I live in the middle of a very private ranch my great grandfather bought in 1872.
    Its 12 miles between the front & back gate on our place. Everything is bigger in Texas!
    I have a few chain saws. Just never thought about carving until YOU came along.
    Thanks hoss!

      Wow, thanks, that's a real compliment... I have several videos on many different subjects, and continue to make more, itspretty endless in my world, it's a non stop discovery zone for me. Best of luck to you, and have a great journey with it! I've enjoyed it for over 20 years, and still find new things to explore with chainsaw art.

      My first subject I carved was hands, big hands out of massive chunks of oak and maple... it was easy for me,because I have two hands, so always have had them as my models when I needed a subject to draw, or sculpt.i was a very inspiration hungry kid, but was very uninspired, I grew up in the woods, and had everything a kids imagination would need, every day sensory overload, but it was too overwhelming for me, I was happiest with the pile of dust and chips I made, never cared for the subject...so I just went with the flow most days, no direction, no goals, just make stuff, just copy what I saw... took many years to accept that I'm more of a process artist, than a masterpiece artist, but that's my joy in life!

      @@badasswood Just know this, you inspired an old dog in Texas to try something new & out of the box.
      I may be 53 on paper but upstairs I feel young. My dad was a master carpenter for 40 years. I inherited all his wood working tools when he passed last year. I almost sold those tools but something kept me from doing it. I'm glad I kept it all!
      I have a barn & a shop full of new and antique wood working tools. Guns too! I kind of hit the jackpot on wood tools like: Lathes, planers, ban saws, sanding in all directions, you name it & I might have it. Pop was kind of famous around here for his skills. He did all the fancy detail work like magic. I live in the house he built. He passed away 5 years after finishing his house.
      If I can do metal art cut-outs I think I can carve wood!
      Thanks again to my new teacher! I subbed & will catch up on your older videos... I'll post a video of my completed bear carving. No matter how crappy it might look. Maybe I'll make a Tiki statue? My main hobby right now is high end remote control 4x4 trucks. Shooting guns is a close second. I can do that out here on the ranch whenever I want. Right off the back porch! I'm missing something & I think carving wood with a chain saw might fill that void!

    I got my Owls Head the size of a bucket, and the bodies not nearly big enough. Come back to your video for the second or third time. I'm going to make that thing and owl yet

    • @badasswood
      @badasswood  4 роки тому

      Proportions is less important than character with owls. I make them with over sized heads,or over sized bodies... many different looks, michaelangelo carved some nasty lookin owls way back then , I use that as reference,but also those cheesy owl candles and porcelain statues people collect. Lotta owl reference and variety out there, check out the 1970's clash of the titans movie, or just look at images via Google search... nothing you do is wrong, just go with it...

This is why I stopped using editor provided music, volume levels, and timing came out nothing like it was adjusted in the editor... thanks for viewing, and understanding that we aren't professionally paid actors, or professional video makers.😁

    Your video and instructions are great, but you have to change that "techno-computer" music. I'd rather listen to a chain saw run than that stuff. You talk and explain as you go is best.

    • @badasswood
      @badasswood  2 роки тому

      Yes know i guess people dont understand how difficult youtube makes it to edit after a video is published. The only option they give us is to replace the entire audio with other crappy music . These older videos are what they are sorry. I stopped using the garbage musuc provided many years ago yet people act like its so easy to go back to fix a video i posted three or four years ago.its not that simple sorry it bugs you but peo0le watch them and i need the metrics.

      Thank you! Yep, I'm bad at aditing, once it's published, I can't reedit, because phone space, I have to delete it& it edited on other than UA-cam .thank you for three great input.

      So turn the volume down, it's all I could get at the time, dont worry tho, I'm spending my life savings on video making classes, not like I'm makin any money doing videos, teaching people how to carve.
