This video looks at the work Ayrshire Rivers Trust are/have carried out to help protect and improve a loch trout population impacted by forestry plantations in Ayrshire. With severely degraded spawning habitat ART reluctantly ran a small trout egg incubator to help boost the productivity of a key spawning burn where habitat has become so impacted by sediment that trout numbers are becoming increasingly depressed.

Great work lads. I still cannot understand why SEPA do not protect habitat around the burns and lochs by imposing a ban on conifer plantations, say within 25 yards.

Yes,the trees must take the water, too, that would otherwise flush the stream.I'm very surprised at how near to the stream trees are planted. Not much would be lost by the foresters, surely,to leave a bit of space.Interesting.Cheers!
