It's actually easy to tell if you can make another with that skein, before you ever make your chain. You don't have to guess and hope you have enough.
Weigh your current headband, in grams for more precision, with a kitchen scale.
Then weigh the remaining skein, without the band.
As long as you have slightly more, in weight, in your skein (you want to allow for a tiny bit of tension variance and the part of the tails that will be snipped off) than the weight of the headband, you are good.
A scale is very useful. Weighing your project and your yarn is very helpful for figuring out how many more rows you can get out of your skein.
It's so handy for determining how much yarn you will need based on a swatch.
And much more.
I've been weighing yarn for my projects for years! It seems to be talked about more, recently, from what I've seen. But I've been doing it, instinctively, since I was a beginner. I just thought, hey, I already have info on the band, I can weigh my yarn to solve for the unknown variables. Ha!
I use it so often that I bought a second scale just for my yarn area because I got tired of having to steal the kitchen scale. It lives right next to my craft light. Another must have. ;)
