This is the kind of freedom I'm hoping frontiers will have, like alot of people said before, if we can do cool stuff like the sonic cd opening, the gameplay would be amazing.
Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 were build in a way, that makes the intended path look like a recommendation. You had so much freedom in finding your own way to the goal, which should be more present in modern titles, imo.

The wallrun should've been implemented as a proper set piece. Sonic Adventure 1 had you running down a building for an extended period of time. Would've been sick if Sonic Adventure 2 had you run up a massive tree to find the exit to the forest.
Holy fuck! This was so well produced dude! I loved the editing and your narration. This is the most well made video ever done by anyone in this community, I'm really pumped to watch the next ones now!
Thank you so much Brian, it really means a lot! Thank you again with the help on this video. This community deserves it and I'm excited to make more content like this in the future.
I learned so much from this video. I'd never even seen Air Jordan, or at least never noticed it, and that run from Katie4 is sick. This is one of the best videos I've seen about SA2.
What I like to believe is when speedrunners speed run Sonic games, that's how (most of the time) Sonic goes in his levels. (I say most of the time cause, anybody remember Sonic Unleashed in Rooftop Run? Where they run on an invisible wall? No way Sonic can run in mid air)
Unleashed Speedrun Sonic is just Archie Sonic, lol. Don't doubt what he can do! Seriously, I wish Unleashed runs were more popular. They're amazing. -Totally not because I'm an Unleashed runner...-
Unexpected to have this show up in my recommendations, but a great level pick that caught my attention. I never had an interest in speedruns but i remember a lot of traps in this level that could slow someone taking the intended path down (running into enemies from momentum and ending up on top of the paths)
If you have any other levels in mind feel free to let me know :) and I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Sonic speedruns are really cool and have some really interesting tech I don’t think has been explored enough.
Not seen anything about sa2b speed runs since I used to sit and watch talon and brokenarthritis go back and forth for the any% record. Some good memories man, amazing vid
That is one of the craziest parts about making this video to me, I really felt the same in my casual playthroughs of the game. A lot of the stage is on loops or going up the tree so naturally its more of a cinematic experience but in the speedrun that all changes which is really interesting to see what the community was able to find.
Shit on Iizuka all you want but he's an absurdly talented stage designer. His level layouts are like rollercoasters on steroids and I fucking love them
I think seeing how Green Forest is completed normally would have been beneficial in order to make the stage layout clearer for people. Still, this is a really great video and I can’t wait to see what you do next.
I hadn't really considered this but a side by side of the normal vs some strats, like Bungee Skip in particular would have been nice. Thanks and I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Very good video ! I look forward to your next video of this kind, not necessarily on sa2 (even if it's one my favourite video game), but on a 2D Sonic, Adventure, etc... it will also be great ! By the way, never succeded the Bungee Skip or Moonshot in Green Forest; on the other hand, Crazy Gadget glitch feel easier to me.
This video was super interesting. Reminds me of doing that Knuckles Cannons Core Skip I used to do. Cant wait to learn more about speed running for this game and others! Btw what's the intro theme song? It sounds great.
I wonder if anyone ever discovered a Lil speed hack I came across along Time ago in this game....if you grab the speed shoe power up then jump off the edge of the level killing yourself but right before the game resets the stage you pause it and push restart on the pause menu thus letting you retain the speed shoe power up permanently until you finish the stage... you can do it up to three times and sonic will move extremely fast ... you can also do it in multiplayer to with sonic and shadow on Radical Highway
The movement in this stage showcases how good the engine is. Maybe some of the movement isnt intended like running up that tree in the intro, but it doesnt feel too unnatural for the character.
Such a great video! There's so much history to dig into on these SA2B runs. Might be worth investing in a pop guard to help with those plosives on the narration, but otherwise a fantastic video and an awesome series! :)
I used to speedrun this game and when I watched playthroughs I always thought Pyramid Cave was the hardest to optimize... then I tried this level and just the geometry alone makes it chaos Edit: This was a trip down memory lane of trying and failing Wall Run...
Pyramid Cave is almost definitely one of the most technical and is up there as one of the hardest, but the reason I chose Green Forest is for those big make or break moments like Wallrun and Air Jordan that are precise and run ending if you mess up. Also Green Forest's collision is really rough to deal with and sometimes you can just lose time from taking a slope the wrong way lol. Great point though and I will most likely make a video about Pyramid Cave one day since it's really intense and one of my favorites!
This was actually one of the hardest songs in this whole video for me to choose, I went with about 5-10 different songs and nothing felt right until this one. Also yes Persona is amazing!
This stage's speedrun looks like what Sonic would actually do while escaping the island
This is the kind of freedom I'm hoping frontiers will have, like alot of people said before, if we can do cool stuff like the sonic cd opening, the gameplay would be amazing.

I like how the most difficult stage is the one where you have to escape an exploding island, very fitting! x)
Yea the speedrun keeps the same level of intensity the timer in the top right does for the game casually XD

"When speedrunners find themselves up against a wall, what do they do?" Usually, they try to clip through it.
