Support is one of those roles where you can do everything perfectly and still not win anywhere near as much as if you'd mained another role. It doesn't matter how many leads you get your team if they throw the leads constantly. Climbing as support gets significantly easier as you go up in ranks because of this. I like Aphro's advice for climbing from iron to plat, and that's not to pick real supports. Pick a mage support like Lux, build damage, and carry the game that way.
This. I spammed Janna to climb from Bronze to Gold in S6, but I don't have the patience with randos like I used to, so it's Zoe/AP Shaco supp for me nowadays. Both can be fun and extremely obnoxious to play into for the opposing team.
im so excited to watch you coach a karma player since that's who i main, These coaching videos are so educational and i always learn something from them, Thanks!
Supports are a completely different species. Like any other role's coaching and they're literally insulting you and yelling at you... And then there's a support main's coaching, a literal angel, whom we don't deserve.
Hi i0ki! I absolutely love your coaching sessions. I just started playing 2 months ago, am level 29 so about to start ranking. I main Sona (mastery 6 already!) and recently I've been having SUCH a hard time. I've been drafted with people level 300+, 400+ and even once 700+ while I was level 28?! Why the hell?? I got destroyed T_T But watching you I realised I don t know enough about the game itself and have so much to learn! So thank you!!
Hey Myriam :D totally off the left field, have you tried lichbane Sona? (you start with a sheen into boots into a lichbane first item, Q+Blue Auto does half an adc's hp)
This is so late but honestly level 29 is extremely new (at this level, there are probably a lot of champs that you still wouldn't know what they do) so I would've waited til around at least 50ish to start ranking. Hope your ranked journey is going well now!
Wow, that's very first League video guide that has actually taught me something. Very informative, loved the part about positioning in laning phase and aggressive warding. Very cool stuff, thanks for uploading it.
When you're talking about playing as if you're invincible and using the example of walking into the enemy jungler on drag, that made me think of watching my ADC literally help the enemy jungler take the dragon by attacking dragon and not the jungler. I know trying to explain things in chat during a game is pretty pointless, but I told them that they should attack the jungler and not the dragon. Make it harder for them to take the dragon instead of helping them get it closer to smite range. Of course they called me an idiot, .. smh ..
Hey iOki, greetings from EUW! I've just subscribbed after so many times watching and learning from you for free!!! your videos are a blessing, I love how you speak (don't listen to haters): there is no vulgarity nor condescension though we hear the passion and excitment. Now, you sometimes mentionned ELO HELL and cited Gold-Silver level. But what would be really fun is you to upload a game where you carry as support (I know you would do it with fingers tied) with Iron IV-III (lev 30-45) teammates doing it all wrong (trolling, inting, bad map reading etc)... Just to show how it's done for all the non-believers out there. I hope you'd take that as a fun challenge rather that a waste of time. It'd give courage to all those stuck there.
In these scenario, all lanes are dominating. If u head up, its easier to win. how to play a game, if top is loosing? in low elo, its hard to climb. several games are chaotic. Like 4 kills for the oponents after 3min playtime. I can hold my lane the most time but if i left my adc to roam or help mid/top, my adc dies or top wants, that im tanking with sona. Thats elo hell and not this game. this is heaven.
Hey, I hope someone will help me with this. I've seen the idea of roaming mid, or even top, after your first reset. You are supporting the entire team after all, not just the ADC. But it seems like whenever I do that, I never can sync back up with bottom lane - my ADC is pushed in 1v2 and I can't get back to her unless either I'm escorted, or I take another reset. And once I reset again, she has been pushed out of lane and I have to save or collect a triple wave. If I save it, I have to reset as soon as she gets back to lane. If I collect it, there is nothing for her to farm now. And we end up just taking turns going back to base instead of going together.
henlo! thanks for such a great teaching video, i`ve noticed some of my own mistakes, but correct actions too. i see you recommending Shurelia`s or Moonstone. but what do you think about Luden`s? saw such item on Karma rather often. thanks for attention in advance :)
how am i supposed to rank up when my ranked teammates are iron 3 and troll the whole game going 0/12 every game meanwhile i play a support and do the most damage, how do i get out of this cycle? Not only have i deranked because of my terrible teammates this has led to me having bad teammates in every game please help
The only thing I don’t like about these coach streams is you don’t know if the client is looking at map and/or how often. I want to climb as support and I’m trying to work on map awareness and I’m looking for tips to improve that for supports and nobody seems to talk about roaming and map awareness
I know I should rotate more but frfr these low elo adcs esp vayne players like to be making plays when I’m gone I always hesitate to dip unless we got a fully crashed wave 😅
This is the first video I watch from you, could you tell me why place a ward, and back for the trinket? Wouldn't that make you lose vision potential if the lane shoves to the enemy to make sure you dont get ganked by the jungler, or a fight happens in the bushes and you need vision to do dmg?
Hi @ Ioki , hope your doing fine . Found some new Tech for you :) . Coming from a Ranked Game where i tested Faker´s Ap-Kaisa as Support . Changed the Runes to First Strike to get the Gold needed for this expensive build . Rest is same Tear into Muraman,Ludens . going 16-8 kda on Support One shotting them all . my Belly is still hurting from the Laughs i had . This is so broken xd
Every champ is viable in the support lane. The rest are base off your understanding on how the game works, and your own mechanics (macro and micro'ing)
I think it’s because he’s using the bush to hide so he wants to check if it’s warded but I am not 100 percent sure. That’s the only thing I can think of
(Nobody ever climbed on a hardstuck account in low elo as a support btw, the role is that bad and irrelevant) You could be Keria and wouldnt be able to leave Gold/Plat on a stuck account, you rather just buy another smurf and try again to climb
What was the purpose of the early trinket change and use of it in the bush? I’m not familiar with this When you get coaching is it best to choose your best game, your worst game or a random pick?
Shurelyas on Karma shouldn't be a go to thing, tbh I think it's almost always kind of useless on her since her E and R+E already speeds up enough and if you combine it with shurelyas you can possibly reach a soft cap on MS which then means the extra MS loses its value. Moonstone healing just provides more and if against a burst dmg oriented comp just go locket at that point since it gives extra shield and especially resists. Mandate is probably not even up for debate on Karma, because increasing others' dmg is not even her forte and her mandate procs aren't as reliable as Nami's for example.
I know you're the GSA and an overall good guy but why do you release your coaching sessions? Like these are EXTREMELY helpful but like if they pay for coaching, why make it public to all of us?
Coaching sessions are only released publicly (for others to learn) if it's okay with the client. I have done coaching sessions that the client would rather not be made public so it was only shared with them.
He really is a good guy, and also, it is never the same him couching the game of another person, than him coaching a game you personally played, because normally not everyone does the same mistakes, he points this person errors, and you will share something here or there of bad habits, but booking a coaching session for yourself it's different, he will point out your mistakes, so this is a 'taste' of his couching. As previously said, it's marketing and also him having the good heart to free share what he teaches to other people 💞
4:00 nah, they did not know where the enemie laners are before zeri and neeko walked down the lane. worst caste scenario: they both sit in the middle bush, waiting for a free kill lvl 1, cause they know, karma does not start her lane with a shield. it actually was risky from the adc to start shoving the wave, if he does, he needs to respect this possibilitie too and position himself on the riverside 20:58 even your adc's have to ask if its ok when they stay in lane with you for the plate lol....the same way they have to be ok with, that you lasthit 30-40% of the wave lol, support items are cheap, so, supporters can do more with less gold not less than the jungler. in this video, you're nitpicking shit, cause you're unable to find stuff to critisize. a lot of the stuff you critisized is objectively wrong. like when you have a feeling that a play will work out, follow your instinct and if it doesnt work, oh well, here in this game, a lot of times, his instincts lead to good results, for example the earlie midlane sej bait, where he had a feeling that hecarim would go in for the kill and got rewarded for it. that is playmaking and cant be taught, what i would say about that though is, that it was lucky that it went that way, he basically set up hecarim to maaaaaybe do something stupid, and especially, when you are carrieing your team, people will jump on everything you point at so be mindfull that there are skill differences between your teammates and yourself, with that i mean, sometimes, its better to not make a play, just cause your team is already leading so high that the only way the enemie team can come back from the loss, is by your own mistakes. if you play these games simply chill to the end without taking any more chances, the already existing leads, automatically snowballs into the win.
I was grateful for the intro, this is the first vid I've watched of him and I appreciate the credentials bc it shows me he knows what he's talking about
dude, you have no idea what elo hell is...elo hell is when your teammates d/c during the game or run it down mid because they missed cs farm. or if god forbid you don't get a kill during a gank but get sums. they'll run it down. or AFK. unless you have a video on how to 3v5 the game there's no way you can get out of elo hell. I just played a game where the ADC was mad that the support picked "yummy" (that's how he said it) so he trolled mid-lane until the xerath went bot. but by the time he got down bot, the turret was gone by 8 mins. Jinx ADC repeatedly died to ezreal mid 3 times from 8 mins to 11mins...then was farmed by the hecerim jungle until 15 min when we could've FF'd but the ff failed because the ADC didn't want to quit, then we could've ff'd at 20 min but that failed too cause the top lane was too busy afk to click the yes button. so yeah elo hell has nothing to do with skill and everything to do with league not having an age or I.Q. limit to play. - iron 3 support player.
I was there bro (no your game but its twin sister). My resolution than got me from iron IV ( stuck there for ever, trying to be iOki) to Bronze III: play agressively a damage (all runes on damage rather than utility) supp champ to be ready to compensate for inexperienced or non agressive ADC & junlger, relic shield to help farm poor CSer, roam roam roam to be everywhere, boost the damage champ to let him carry. get the game to end fast (turrets, drake, nash - ping ping ping!) before the enemy broken champs get strong and anyone who just randomly clicks destoys all around him. But the most important of all: install an app to let you know the level and perfomance of your teamates to dodge when you got player below lev 75 (I hesitate to say 100, but certainly from 30 to 45) and tell you they are not smurfs, occasionnaly, U can spot a troll. Now in Bronze III, I need to find another strategy to give more advange to the ADC but still be able to compensate occasionnal weak teamates. still geting lots of lev 30+ queueing.... last advice: play after primary schoolers bedtime is well past as well, avoid 4pm-9pm. I hope it helps. This being said, I'd love to see IOKI play supp in a iron IV-III game with all the crazy things happening :)
Yup! I had someone get autofilled jng, asked to switch, locked in vex jng and basically inted the entire game. Then i had a ryze who within the first 10 minutes of the game got a gank from a jngler and they took their canon, and instead of ignoring it, the ryze followed the jngler everywhere, and not only that. They wouldnt ff 15. We lost so much lp.

To the nay sayers: elo hell is real. Especially when your adc goes 0/30 in a favored match up.
No it's not bud.
not elo hell but losersq is
2smites...
getting a lesson from ioki is like having Master Roshi as a teacher .. you know Goku's mentor in Dragonball Z, when Goku was just a Young Boy.. you got the best master there is..
oh wait bad example.. Master Roshi is a grade A creep and pervert .. sorry wrong example ((this joke is for the anime geeks only, its for the weebs))
Love the coaching but can you not pause everytime you speak. I felt like I was having a stroke watching this video.
