    The US army actually used a saying during training back in ww2, "a clip is used to load a magazine, and the magazine feeds the rifle" .....even in something like a Carcano/M1 rifle the housing where the clip fits, and the spring that make up the feed mechanism were called a magazine by the designers

    Just a minor correction. The Mosin in theory can be loaded in any way. The reason for why you pull the top round up is because in most of the Mosins, the interrupter (a small little tab which holds the rounds in the magazine) is defective or worn.

    French Berthiers also use an "eb bloc" clip that ejects out the bottom when you insert the next clip.

    A magazine stores ammunition (see naval nomenclature), whereas a clip arranges ammunition for insertion into a firearm, often into its magazine. See the fact that some magazines are integral to their firearm, rather than removable.
    The M1 Garand uses a clip that remains in the magazine until the last round is fired. PING!

    For Chad: Gazpacho has been around since Roman times, at least in its basic form: a cold soup of leftover bread, water, vinegar, garlic and olive oil. Enriched later with New World tomatoes and peppers, it was pounded with massive pestles in a communal bowl to sustain laborers in the fields. Happily, gazpachos have gotten smoother since (gracias, el blender!), though the trick that imparts its velvety texture-soaking the bread in the liquid first-remains fundamental.

    The thing you called a “guide” I’ve always heard called a “spoon”. They came in every bandolier I was ever issued. Also, it’s WAY easier to push the rounds in if you hold the magazine in both hands and push against the edge of a table, a tailgate, etc. We used to use Humvee bumpers to load magazines at the range; or if you’re super fancy, you can use your boot to do it.

  • @michaelmacek9433

    The 8 m/m French rile was referred to as a Lebel.The Lebel model 1886 had a tubular magazine under the barrel.If you were to examine military issue 8X50R French ammo,you will see a deep groove around the primer.The purpose of this groove was to let the tip of a round to fall into the groove and prevent the tip of the. Bullet from coming into contact with the primer of the round loaded ahead of it.The clip shown was for the Berthier which more or less replaced the 1886 Lebel.Other than that minor error, a great and informative video.Thanks

    By a vet from the same era as you, we had clips of 5.56 Nato we loaded into the magazines with an adapter. But...we were instructed to use a table top or other surface to push them in. They knew it was hard to feed.

  • @WardenWolf
    @WardenWolf 4 роки тому

    A magazine was originally fixed, and used to feed directly into the chamber. A clip was used to load the ammo into the magazine from outside the firearm. Therefore a modern box magazine, which both holds the ammo AND loads it into the firearm, performs task of both a clip and a magazine. Calling it a clip, a magazine, or a clip magazine are all technically valid terms. It combines the functions of both.

  • @richardkuhn9795
    @richardkuhn9795 4 роки тому

    Cool video, very little known fact. Your Enfield clip was made in South Africa. South Africa produced Approx 87% of the .303 ammo used in WWII and tons of stripper clips which were of a sturdier build than the Brit stripper clips. The Brit stripper clips wore out and replaced with SA built clips. Interesting that the drive to obtain scrap metal to build weapons was where the stripper clips most likely ended up.

  • @RealCadde
    @RealCadde 4 роки тому

    Those Swedish Mauser 6.5 mil clips are excellent and durable as well.
    We got cases upon cases of them during one visit to the firing range because we had to get rid of the ammo or it would have to be destroyed anyways because it's best before date was coming up.
    We saved every clip we stripped because they are re-used with ammo that comes in boxes without clips.
    Loading the clips as quite finicky though and it's a painstaking process but once they are in clips they are smooth as silk going into the gun.
    I have a few of them at home (without ammo because i have no license for the gun and thus no license for the ammo) to touch and caress whenever i feel like it.
    Also, that G3 autoloader would have done WONDERS if we had them during one particular ammo heavy life fire exercise. We were assigned to load all G3A3 mags that were to be used during the whole operation. We were about 8 guys (and two gals) painstakingly loading magazines for the whole company that were out there emptying them like garden hoses once the next round took place.
    We must have loaded at least 900 mags in 5 hours time. At least!

I'm thinking of acquiring a newly manufactured 10 Round magazine from a certain company, but each magazine cost approx. $90+. So I'm looking clips that might hold 5 rounds a piece, instead of the normal 6 round clips.

    The one thing about loading a SKS is you don't even need a clip or to single load one round at a time. Close the bolt flip it upside down open the fixed mag grab a handful loose rounds. Drop them in. Close the mag cover. Flip it back over. Charge it. Ready to fire. At least I can do this on my Yugo SKS.

    hey Eric, the other day I was watching a U.S. army air corp. cold weather survival film from the 1940's and in the equipment list they said that a pilot should have was an " automatic pistol cal. .45 and 2 extra clips " just shows even the military gets confused sometimes.

    One one of his patent application illustrations , John Moses Browning has a "magazine" labeled "clip" if JMB can call a magazine a clip so can about anyone. Except recruits.

    Clips feed magazines, Magazines feed the chamber.
    You do not feed the gun with clips, if you insert rounds from a stripper clip into a firearm that holds more than 1 round that's because it has an INTERNAL/FIXED MAGAZINE.
    For a simpler illustration: Clips "hold" munitions together, Magazines "Contain" munitions

    CLIP: holds cartridges together, does NOT contain a spring, the whole thing intended to be inserted into the magazine e.g. Mannlicher, Carcano, Grand. CHARGER: Holds cartridges together, does NOT contain a spring, cartridges are to be stripped off into the magazine and removed. E.g. Mauser, SMLE, Mosin-Nagant. MAGAZINE: Spring loaded container (usually box) that contains cartridges. May be detachable or internal.

    a magazine is something you read ie: hot rod, guns & ammo and popular science. a clip is anything that holds or helps load ammunition.

    Clips can be a good way to carry extra ammo without as much weight. 6+1 30rds mag + more ammo in clips.
    Some FN FAL versions allow for stripper clips to be used to directly top up the inserted mags in the gun. Pretty neat.

    You guys should have a challenge where one is blindfolded while the other picks like 10 magazines for you to guess by feel.
