DETAILS:
Witnesses told the CHP that two vehicles were racing at high speed and swerving in & out of traffic. One female driver with her 3 passengers saw the BMW driver coming up fast behind her and she changed lanes.
The male in the BMW went around her and swerved into her, hitting her drivers' side front end. The women were not injured.
The BMW went across all lanes of traffic and up the embankment below the Palomar St overcrossing. The BMW then hit a tree head-on and rolled back into the traffic lanes. The BMW landed on its roof. The driver was ejected.
The other car, a white Ford Mustang with a black stripe left the scene.
Good Samaritans stopped and one started CPR on the male who was ejected. The male was declared deceased at the scene. All southbound lanes are blocked (as of 6:10 pm). The CHP is investigating.

One thing you don't do when these idiots are racing... Never switch lanes, they will pull to the left or right. Just stay put in your lane. This person killed himself unfortunately, but I'm glad the ladies are ok.

I remember the first thing my sister told me when I learned how to drive is if I ever see a car coming at fast speed or racing, don’t move lanes because they’re already planning on moving over.

He was my childhood friend. He lived his life in the fast lane. Literally. Thank god nobody else was killed. The guy was in deep pain but not anymore.

The way I see people speeding in and out of traffic on my daily drive I am surprised we don't see more of these catastrophic accidents. My condolences to his family and friends.

We were driving by when we saw everyone on the floor trying to revive him. I felt it in my spirit he was gone already, can’t explain just know.
We would have stopped but more than 20 ppl were on scene waiting for the police and Firetruck who were literally a couple cars behind us. So sad no matter the circumstances. Someone lost their life today.

It's very dangerous to stop and render aid on the highway like that. God bless the people that do it, though.
I saw everything in my rear view mirror. He was going so fast. I had pulled over to see if anyone else needed help (in the medical field) and as I walked up someone was already doing cpr but u could tell he was gone. Then someone said he was gone. I didn’t sleep at all last nite cuz all I could see was his face in my head. I kept thinking of his parents getting that call. Such a sad situation. What made me even angrier was as I walked back to my car a car and motorcycle got on the fwy at the same time and started racing since the road was wide open. I was furious. I pray for his family and thank God nobody else died

Just because the commercials tell you it's the ultimate driving machine doesn't mean you can drive crazy and not expect to die. There is a time and a place for this during traffic times and on the streets is not the time! I don't like telling people what to do but drive safe out there, to the people who lost a family member sorry for your loss!!!

I drive this portion of the 5 daily and I see cars racing here ALL the time. For the reason seen here I started exiting the freeway at J street and driving the rest of the way home down Broadway when I’m headed home from work around 11pm when cars tend to race due to lighter traffic conditions. I’ve almost been apart of several accidents due to people driving like this and I’d like to make it home.
Another guy trying to be Dom Toretto and paid for it with his life.
I don't advise trying to be like Dom Toretto, but some drivers are pretty good with their cars, others are not.

I was driving on the 94 when two cars were racing. Scared me to death! Don’t ever switch lanes! Just let them pass you.

BMW- Bavarian Motor Works …. Except we don’t have an autobahn with citizens who were raised in that environment and every lane is a slow lane.
If the average BMW owner knew how time-consuming, expensive and difficult it is to get a driver's license in Germany, and how easy it is to get fined and lose it, they might think and act a little differently. Even on the Autobahn there are strict rules about passing, merging and lane changing. The Bundespolizei can pull you over and fine you on the spot, better have plenty of room on your credit card if you want to drive like a jerk over there.
