- A video of my solo unsupported bike packing trip from Leicestershire to John O’ Groats. 650 miles whilst carrying kit, wild camping and solo navigating and cycling up the country!
Then, onto the Orkney Isles.
The best thing I have done on a bike... nothing beats the freedom of the open road. Cant wait for the next trip.

Really enjoyed this video. I haven't done any cycle touring for a few years now. I always used to get the "emotional rollercoaster" on the 3rd or 4th day out - caused, I think, by the build up of fatigue. Once the body adjusts tho, it goes away.

Awesome trip, well done. It was good to see someone doing this kind of thing on a road bike as that's what I plan to do but much of what I've read advises "proper" touring bike, steel frame etc. Gives me confidence anyway. Thanks.

Highly recommend Bettina Selby 'The Fragile Islands' cycle touring but some great commentary about the Outer Hebrides circa 1989.
Ah I will give that a go… i was planning the outer Hebrides but struggling to get over long viral fatigue at the moment so that plan is on hold!

Great adventure, Orkney is stunning, hope you had chance to explore whilst you were there. Your facial expressions were entertaining, best 30 mins viewing I've had for a long time.

Absolutely EPIC journey. It must of took a lot planning but definitely worth it. Well done.
It was brilliant! Not even that much planning really. Pack up my kit, set off and follow the line on my garmin. The more tricky bit was camping and eating enough!
Main planning is the route and then the trains home!

Any ride or trip which is worth doing always has its up and downs for sure. You aren’t feeling on top of the world all day, every day but things that are tough are usually worth it I find!
Brilliant. Loved every minute. Hubby and I relayed Saltash in Cornwall to Edinburgh back in 2018 and he had the Hebden Bridge climb. He said it was the worst bit!!

Brilliant video. Glad you got your GoPro back. Recognised quite a bit of the route from when I did LeJOG and a couple of times I’ve cycled from Bristol to Dingwall. The bit between Lairg and Loch Naver is stunning as is the NCN7 between Pitlochry and Aviemore. Well done and thanks for posting.

Ah that’s Stefan. Hope you have a great trip! I did Lands End to Leicester a few years back and really enjoyed it. I stayed in hostels and so needed less kit.

A wonderfully shot film of a great adventure well done and with a happy ending, you got your Go Pro back. But did you eat anything other than cakes, pastries and junk food sandwiches for the whole ride?????
I cooked pasta and rice type meals... so no not just junk food! However when riding long days they can be an easy fix, hard fitting in enough calories but quickly at times!

Quick question - I see you used a Trangia type meths stove, how much fuel did you use per day/over the whole trip?
It’s actually quite efficient on fuel, hard to give an estimate on how much though! You can store fuel in the stove itself, and then I topped it up once. That doesn’t really answer your question does it!! About half a 500ml bottle of meth
