You should read Katia's book, My Sergei. In there she explains how they were paired and of course their love story. I don't believe we will ever see a pairs team to match their level of artistry and athleticism again. I do believe the rigorous Soviet athletic training system pre- 1990 molded the perfection in the 60s and early 90's the Soviet skaters ruled figure skating and ice dancing.

I confess I had never heard of these two until I was 13 and read Ekaterina's book, but it's like I fell in love with them before I ever saw them skate. (with was, I'm sad to admit, not until this year) 9 years after I discovered them, I still have the book! old, ragged, and has definitely seen better days, but still very much one of my most prized possessions!
This is nearly too sad to watch, but G+G's passion for each other is exemplary and rare. How did they fall in love so deeply? Was it the enormity of their work plus the similarity of their characters? How did Russia know to put them together as children? Through extensive scientific studies as they've done, or by simple chance? Will any pairs excite us so deeply in our future? Thank you for this beautiful and perfect video! You've captured the essence of true love!

I still can't watch them without crying. What a tragedy Sergei's death was. I'm so glad Daria looks like him. She'll always be part of him
I wonder if Daria watches any of this or has any memory of her dad since she was so young when he passed. I would watch everything I could. :)
