This is a limitation of (cheap/affordable) rotary encoder knobs...if you want higher resolution with rotary encoders rather than pots then you'll need to pay a whole lot more (as I understand it). As it is, for my budget at least, having the functionality of encoders is worth the resolution compromise :)

im having an issue with the knobs on my behringer x touch mini!!! i hate it. the quicker i rotate the knob, the more ground it covers, and if i turn it slow it barely moves. this is such a pain for filter sweeps and stuff where i really need it to be linear! anyone have this same issue and know how to change the knobs to react linearly? thanks

If only the X-Touch mini editor would allow to make some settings for the mackie mode. E.g. so you can select a function for each button. Why would they chose things like "input select", while it doesn't let you do the most obvious thing: Control the volume of tracks.

That's works so cool. Just got the Behringer CMD DV-1 for the same usage in mind (as it have 4X3 great encoders layout suitable well for most plugins in theory) and I can't do anything with it. There is no kind of bridge\drivers software for it, no daw can read encoder values or turns leds up. Was this X-Touch equipped with drivers or something? How I can put DV-1 back to live?

However, no matter how hard I try, I just cannot set it up the way you have in this video. It just does not respond to my Ableton, the buttons act like pads rather than anything else. Milan Ivenz Hey there! Thanks so much for the feedback, I really appreciate it. I'm sorry to hear it's been giving you trouble though. I forgot to mention in the video that the Behringer X-Touch needs to be in "MC Mode", for it to be recognized by the Master Control script in Ableton's preferences. If you haven't tried this already, try using the MC button (bottom left corner button) while connecting the unit to the computer- this only needs to be done once. I haven't had to do this in a long time but here is what the manual suggests: "Press and hold down the MC button while connecting the unit to a live computer’s USB port. Release the MC button when the MC MODE LED on the right lights continuous" Please let me know if that doesn't help! Cheers

Hey there! Sorry for the late reply! It is possible to manually map the knobs to the parameters in any DAW as it can behave as a generic MIDI controller. However, the LED feedback on this unit relies on control surface scripts in order to function properly with ease. Hope that helps answer that. Cheers

No problem! You can edit the script but I believe it is programmed in Python. However, you can use the script and also manually map the buttons to features that you like and that will override the script's mapping for that project file!
Is there a way to do the same thing on FL Studio? Selecting devices and dynamically change the mapping to vst or internal plugins it's what I bought this thing for.

Hey! Thanks a lot! Essentially, the only way to control external plugins would be by putting the plugin in an audio effect rack and mapping the parameters you wish to control from the plugin to the Macros of the audio effect rack containing the plugin. I hope that helps a bit! It’s definitely possible and quite easy once you get the hang of it. Cheers
unfortunately it's doesn't do this by default. You could however use a utility device inside an instrument/audio effect rack and map the volume to a Macro on the rack. Then, you can control that macro with the regular device control.

I suspect you could use Max For Live, or a script-maker like clyphX or remotify, to customise what the x-touch mini is mapped to in different circumstances. Then you could have 16 parameters: 8 mapped to Layer A, and 8 mapped to Layer B. Or if you want 16 parameters at your fingertips all at once, get the Midi Fighter Twister. Or get a custom unit like the ones made by Faderfox. But you're talking about lots of money for wither of those options.

Can you adjust the rotary sensitivity? Looks like you have to rotate them twice to span the full range.

Looks like the knobs are quite slow (you have to turn them a lot to move the DAW knobs just a little). Is there any way to fasten them up?

You can mod the ableton user script to increase the encoder sensivity. There are a few tutorials over the net teaching how to create your own script.

This!! I have wasted an evening trying to make it work for track volumes. There must be some way to reassign the pointless button 3!

So essentially you can map 8 dials to 8 racks, each with 8 different values. 64 values to manipulate
