    The "SAVE" button activates Ableton's "Back to Arrangement" function.
    Launching a clip or scene will trigger the "Back to Arrangement" option in Live, indicated by a red backlit "SAVE" button on the X-Touch.
    Pushing a red "SAVE" button will switch playback to the contents of the arrangement, at the current arrangement position.

    Wow THANK YOU for taking the time to walk through this. Everything shown here works with the ICON QCON Pro G2 which I just purchased. As an emulation of an MCU it has has a nearly identical control layout and function to the X-Touch. I could not find a product specific walkthrough for the ICON and was wondering what all the buttons do. This is the only thing I found that walked through the whole MCU implementation for Ableton. I'm ready to conquer the world now. Bravo!

      I'm writing custom Remote Script for X-Touch (based on original Mackie but with right button mappings and additional features). So how do you think what is the best way to switch Monitor controls? In example: if you press Alt or Shift then ARM leds will show you: Monitor off - ARM Led off, Monitor AUTO - ARM Led ON, Monitor ON - ARM Led BLINKING. Or Monitor control can be switched by some button on selected track but you'll not see 8 tracks at once

But I am using Ableton 10 more and more for my music production. But when I plug the X Touch in and use it in Ableton, none of the buttons light up like you have in the video above, and the motorized faders keep resetting to zero - have you come across this? How did you get your X Touch set up? Did you have to map everything yourself?

    Buongiorno Nyroh. Do you have experience with Ableton Push? If yes, what are the advantages in using the X-Touch with Live? I understand that X-Touch is usable with other DAWs and that Push also works as a music creation tool which in my case I don't really need because I already have NI Maschine Studio and a komplete Kontrol Keyboard. So I wonder how they compare more in terms of building up a song, mixing, editing, moving things around, efects, etc. Faders seem to be more interesting than pads for this purpuse! Thanks in advance.

    • @soundrocketstudios
      @soundrocketstudios  4 роки тому

      Feel like they're totally different...
      I've had a push 1 in the past. Push is for music creation "in the ableton way" and you can use it for post production/mixing/mastering too. You can map it to plugins (even if I don't specifically remember how) and it would surely be already mapped for the ableton fx and processors. It would be much more useful for music production and editing than the x touch and it would work for the basics of mixing (even if I can't tell you much because I DON'T LIKE ableton for mixing).
      On the other side with the x touch you'll have a totally different feel because it's created with mixing in mind. So faders, rotaries, play, stop, etc etc (+ some plugin control as you have seen in the video)
      BUT I need to say this
      Knowing that you have a machine studio anyway I feel like you wouldn't need a push that much (just saying...)
      Don't know if you use it only to control the komplete kontrol plugins or not but, maschine and its ecosystem is something pretty disconnected from ableton (even if u can make them merge partially 4 sure). Me personally I never really liked it (had the 1st maschine too lol) and what I'm saying is: if you use the maschine program a lot and you're buying the push 2, you're going to use push mostly for mixing and not use close to any of the production tools that it could give you (because you have maschine...). The other way around, if you want to go fully into ableton, you're probably not gonna use machine that much anymore too (apart from, as I said, maybe controlling Komplete kontrol plugins)
      This second part is just a thought I had if I was choosing for me ;)
      Cheers

      @@soundrocketstudios Wow, thank you so much for your detailed answer! Each mouse click takes me away a little bit of the joy of making music. I need to feel this stuff so I'm gonna buy an used push 2 (found a good deal) and see what it is to work with it. Latter maybe selling it again or Maschine. Because of you I got to know Studio One which seems to be a VERY interesting alternative to mixing, mastering and also recording real instruments, so eventually also getting it and the X-Touch latter on. Thanks for the extremely useful videos. You have a new subscriber.

      @@dhfg9106 It's always a pleasure to help another music enthusiast! 🎹
      Studio one for me is lovely for mixing/mastering. I may not have the rights to say this (because I haven't really tried for it) but for production I still prefer ableton; seems like it's generally mentally easier
      Happy for your decision btw! A tip for when you'll get your push, take some time with it; even if perfectly implemented in ableton you'll still have to learn some push tricks to make your life easier
      And thank you for the subscription, I'll come back making videos soon 👍
      Have a nice day full of music!

    I saw somewhere that Live 10 does not work the same as in Live 9. So you know anything about this? I am still trying to decide between this X-Touch, and since my other DAW is Studio One, FaderPort 8. Do you know much about FaderPort 8 from PreSonus?

    • @soundrocketstudios
      @soundrocketstudios  3 роки тому

      Hey Gary! Sorry for not answering on the other comments you created but I completely forgot! Sorry 😕
      Don't actually know about the difference between 10/9 with the x touch. I still have live 9 and don't feel the need to update anytime soon. I really wanted to start using studio one only but ableton just feels like home when producing 😊
      Anyway, I already answered some questions about the faderport on the x touch review video so you may find something more there but here's what I generally think
      I haven't really tested the faderport in an everyday use situation but I compared the two directly in a local store and definitely liked the feel of the x touch more
      The materials used makes the faderport look and feel more like a toy to me and then there's two things: no pan pots and faders too incredibly close. Man, I just can't stand the fact that without looking, I had to "force" my fingers to stay closer one another to move two or three faders together. Not a super hard thing to do but...I mean... it is really too close for me. And I don't even have big fingers (I'm a pianist and piano teacher too)
      And the no pan pots thing is just not a great idea for me.
      Hope for a better version two for the faderport 8/16 series. But for now, I'm an x touch guy
      Thank you for commenting!
      Cheers
      Nyroh 🎹

      @@soundrocketstudios Thanks for getting back to me. I am still up in the air about the comparison between the FaderPort and the X-Touch, but after seeing your reply, and realizing that the X-Touch definitely has more flexibility in both the amount of control as well as the back panel with greater connectivity. I am also thinking that down the road I may want to get into X-Air and the XR18 to do live sound. You can use ethernet to control your mix to the SR18 on stage as your inputs (no need for a snake!). Thanks again for the great videos.

    Is there a way to controll the macros of a Rack with the Faders?

    • @soundrocketstudios
      @soundrocketstudios  5 років тому

      You should be able to control the 8 macros of the rack with the rotaries in plugin mode, then it's always possible to click the flip button and switch rotaries and faders so.... Yes 👍🏻

    2:23 is what I’m talking about. When you click in Ableton and select track tracks 1-8 work fine but when you clicked on the Perc 2 track which is trk 9. The faders did not jump to show you the level and pan etc. if the Perc2 channel. This sucks. I have messed up mixes because I thought I was raising the volume of the wrong track because the fader did not jump once it was out of the 8 track bank limit

    Actually bought one of these to use with Live 9. Installed it today and have to say that I'm somewhat disappointed. The first thing that got me annoyed was that unity gain in the DAW doesn't mean 0 on the X-touch faders. All in all, there really are too few things that are actually working: so many buttons that don't do what they say. I think I will return it rather than try to costumize it.
