Ubisoft just has little direction anymore. From Skull and Bones to the endless Assassins creed titles, they just dont seem to know what their audience wants nor where they wish to go. Until they fix their direction/heading and find a soul, they will be second hand stuff... or bargain bin material
I can somewhat agree. If you give me the choice between this or Skull and Bones, I would play this. Though I am of the same mindset as ACG; this is a game that you wait for a sale to play. Looks good but not great and needs some bugs ironed out.
skull and bones... absolutely. But AC? Have you even looked at the sales numbers? the latest iterations are the most sold AC games of all time, and that does not even include the micro transactions. Look at the facts(stats), they are catering to their customers. They are doing it so well that they keep increasing customers consistently. Yes there are the one or two flops, and a few bad launches, but in general for the most part the franchise is a huge success. Maybe you just aren't the targeted audience anymore? you do know games in the AAA space are primarily targeted towards teen and young adults - something tells me you aged way past your 30s.
I think the main issue is how they handled the previews, and locked missions behind preorders. Just felt kind of shady to me. If they hadn't gone that route, the game wouldn't have received that much hate, and a lot of gamers would've been ok with giving it a chance.
Locked missions behind preorders? Where? People who play Ubisoft games would know very well that those missions will be available in later months through Ubisoft Connect. This isn't new and they've been doing it since the PS3 era.
If I knew nothing else about the game, the hard failure conditions and checkpoint system that makes players repeat huge sections of content alone would make me give it a hard pass. That is one of my least favorite designs in gaming. “One dude saw you: FAILED! Now go repeat the last 20 minutes you just did.” Thanks but no thanks. I thought we left that gameplay design behind years ago. Oh well, between that and everything else, that’s $18 saved from the one month Ubisoft subscription I had been considering.
The enemies can see you across the room. They have barrels you can detonate.I f you blow up one of them as a distraction it alerts all the guards and they set off an alarm and you fail the mission. If you are alone with one guard and he sees you you may fail the mission as some missions you can't be seen by anyone or so it appears.

The lack of weapons and customization is for sure a big oof. I get the Jedi manly sticking their lightsaber, but a playing a Outlaw? We should access to all kinds of different blasters and grenades.
Still a game I'm looking forward to getting on a steep discount, cos sometimes you just need a Ubisoft popcorn sandbox adventure. Can't help but be a little disappointed though, especially with the bugginess which seems to be more and more normal as time passes. I'm a little fed up with the "good enough is good enough" attitude a lot of the big names have with even their biggest IPs.
Ubisoft's biggest weakness is facial animation. It absolutely kills the immersion for me compared to so many other games that do a much better job. I understand it's not an easy problem to solve, but they've got the money to put in the effort.
Thing is that they've nailed the facial animations around the time of Unity/Syndicate. After those two games you can see a noticable drop in quality of facial animations.
@@carny15Ever since they got that dumb procedural facial animation generator in Origins…that’s all they use. They think it makes work easy, but it’s just making the underpaid resume fillers lazier.

There are two main turn off's for me when it comes to this game. 1- Ubisoft 2- The price point. There is so many indie games that are great, AAA level games that are quarter or half the price (depending on ST: Outlaws version you look at). I am not willing to pay $100+ for a game so some MD can have a few million bonus at the end of the year.
Everyone played Spider-Man and said the stealth missions were the worst part. So I guess the lesson there was always include instant-fail stealth missions to get that whole "worst part" thing out of the way.

It would have been far more interesting to have Han Solo star in this game and make it a guaranteed hit. You can have his struggle between ANH and Empire with his old smuggler contacts trying to pull him back into crime and away from his more respectable role in the rebellion as he ranks his way up with Chewbacca as his backup and fly the Falcon. I mean it’s obvious the developers wanted to make that game and either weren’t allowed to or couldn’t get the budget to make it.
No, it locks the game to a specific time and characters and removes all the creativity freedom. Look at one of the best Star Wars game: KOTOR, it's great.
It would've been way more interesting if it was set in any other time. Old republic, prequel republic hell even high republic times would've been great. Disney incessantly uses the OT and it's getting tiresome and genuinely disgusting at this point. So in my opinion making it about Han Solo would've made it a billion times worse.

4.5 out of 10. Bad writing. Bad facial expressions some as bad as Mass Effect Andromeda allegedly. If the part about the facial expressions is true that may be enough to kill the game on its own. More than enough time has passed for a developer to avoid that in any game.

Ubisoft just has little direction anymore. From Skull and Bones to the endless Assassins creed titles, they just dont seem to know what their audience wants nor where they wish to go. Until they fix their direction/heading and find a soul, they will be second hand stuff... or bargain bin material
I want assassins creed games forever, they just need to keep adding more mechanics and deeper stealth
I can somewhat agree. If you give me the choice between this or Skull and Bones, I would play this. Though I am of the same mindset as ACG; this is a game that you wait for a sale to play. Looks good but not great and needs some bugs ironed out.
They want to make games for everyone...and thus therefore no one.
skull and bones... absolutely.
Ubisoft needs to restructure their company. They’ve lost the trust of gamers and their reputation is at an all time low.
I think the main issue is how they handled the previews, and locked missions behind preorders. Just felt kind of shady to me. If they hadn't gone that route, the game wouldn't have received that much hate, and a lot of gamers would've been ok with giving it a chance.
@JuanRodriguez-ce8vs nah, the hype was there after first previews until they showed actual combat gameplay and it looked very dated
Locked missions behind preorders? Where? People who play Ubisoft games would know very well that those missions will be available in later months through Ubisoft Connect. This isn't new and they've been doing it since the PS3 era.
Nah, it's just that not a lot of people are interested in playing as Fem Solo in a poorly written SW Ubisoft world, tbh.
They've done that with quite a few of their games.
At this point i see Kay as some kind of alien, that face is not human hahahaha
Great review as always man, looks like a good time overall cant wait to check it out when the dust settles. Keep up the awesome work!
@@ANGRYWOLVERINE2060-ft2ncYeah.. I stupidly ignored my own gut and paid for a month of Ubisoft+. 🙄 Made it through Toshara and the Imperial Star base for the hyperdrive mission and called it quits. By far the worst implementation of stealth I have played in a decade or more. It makes the MJ sequences in the Spider-Man games look brilliant by comparison. That wouldn't give Disney enough options for merch. :(
Definitely this could have been a much better game
@peterrbooth honestly, the customization in ghost recon breakpoint added just enough to make me actually enjoy a ubisoft game
Yea I don’t see why the team who made the Division 1-2 couldn’t turn this game into an awesome RPG with cool character customization, just have to expand a bit on what they did in the division and it could’ve been perfect
The lack of weapons and customization is for sure a big oof. I get the Jedi manly sticking their lightsaber, but a playing a Outlaw? We should access to all kinds of different blasters and grenades.
Thank you for always giving us straight forward reviews without any b.s.

Was that your attempt at trying to defend this decision?
There are two main turn off's for me when it comes to this game.
1- Ubisoft
2- The price point. There is so many indie games that are great, AAA level games that are quarter or half the price (depending on ST: Outlaws version you look at). I am not willing to pay $100+ for a game so some MD can have a few million bonus at the end of the year.
"IT'S A TRAP!"

Solo is a man….. that’s blasphemy at Disney

@@liamdawes3408that would probably be too violent for disney lol
@@IsItFunorNot Even a stun baton would be fine.
Always the best reviews in the business. Thank you!
I don't really like ACG reviews because the scores are usually too positive to be useful. But it's telling when even ACG gives a negative review.
So let me get this straight…
A 90lb teenage girl with no Marvel like super powers can knock out a helmeted storm trooper with one punch to his face with her bare hand? 😂
So let me get this straight... A whiny complaining moisture farmer with zero experience is able to sneak through a top secret military space station the size of a freaking moon with a loud and obnoxious smuggler and a walking carpet, save a princess, not get shot, not get captured, then lead trained rebels back into an attack, survive the attack against well trained pilots while other trained pilots died and blow up the top secret space station? Oh and the only time the force was involved was for aiming a single shot, otherwise completely normal kid.
You are talking about the universe where the 3 foot teddy bears are able to physically kick the storm trooper's butts.
Yeah its really stupid to suddenly apply this logic to star wars.
It all makes sense if you don't think about it.
Dude just say you feel inexplicably threatened because you can't fantasize about yourself being the main character and fantasy is the only place where you can feel good about yourself...it's a lot easier
Shut up with that Chud behavior loser
looking at this after playing Blck Myth Wo Kong is like watching a 4k bluray then watching a 90's video casette.....
So immersive trying to jump into a creek and you run into an invisible wall
@@nhanon67asWord. Wukong ain't all that, I'm disappointed to have paid full price for it.
@@nhanon67as linear game to open world game. Small company vs big company in open world games
@@nhanon67asany actual gamer who enjoys actually playing would easily know wukong slams this game. Wow an invisible wall in a LINEAR game, awful. These guys locking entire huge, already made areas out of their games for dlc when they already want you paying nearly £100.
@@nhanon67asthe guy literally said nothing about immersion he said it looks better and it does. Miles better.
