So this is my first time diving into Slipknot here, I heard how dark and creepy this song and album was and I had to stop here first on my trip through their discography....I have never felt genuine fear listening to a band or song in my life...But i gotta admit..this is a pretty damn good song despite how uneasy it makes me feel.
ive seen dir en grey live and have their albums, that song is an attempt at looking crazy. lumina aurea is literal madness. dir en grey is good but its nothing more than larping. the song writer from swallow the sun literally wrote it after essentially locking himself away in the middle of the woods for years after his wives death. the entire song is almost impossible to understand, and is absolutely nothing like any other song he's written so much so that its actually pretty disturbing as it def isnt acting.
also it has caused a few people ive know to have panic attacks, its essentially funeral doom and not something many would like but is undoubtedly the darkest thing ever (short of the band that literally kidnapped asylum patients and had thm scream in a church for the vocals on their album i believe they are called stalaggh)
Something about this song has always pushed me away from it until recently. I used to feel that 15 minutes was “too much of a commitment” but i listened to it once and now im addicted. It disgusts and disturbs me to no end knowing what the song is about and what corey did to himself while recording but something about that feeling is so addictive, it’s really weird...
This my personal favorite Slipknot song! I wish they did more songs like Killers Are Quiet, Scissors, Prosthetics, Gently, Skin Ticket, and Iowa. This track is a full on post-metal song.

I agree that the lyrics may not be as dark, though Scissors and Purity speak more of internal and Iowa is involving someone else. I believe what makes Iowa darker, is Corey's state of mind during the making, as he has stated.

I too think it's the most disturbing Slipknot song. IMHO, Iowa and Self-Titled are two different, not equal, kinds of the Knot's early era. One's the heaviest and also dark, and the other is not that heavy, but it's the darkest. Otherwise, I think that most of Self Titled's songs are kinda... dry, emotionless on the rythm, like it's pure brutal, but deep down it's not loaded in anger or hatred. And Iowa's songs are this loaded, beyond what I said above. Well, yah, I think that this song and most on Iowa make an darker background than all of Self Titled, just not as brutal. Not sayng the songs you mentioned and the rest of the debut album are light, tho.

I went on the trip and stayed the night in Iova close to the Iova City just to listen to the album. (could go to the next state or just hang out in Illinois). Felt special about all action. Symbolic maybe. I was thinking about all my dearest buddies who are also SlipKnot fans but we got separated from each other because of the life, families, adult life, covid and other shit.
