This is what changed Bowser from "the guy Mario fights a lot" to my favorite Mario Character. And its ironically from a game where he only shows up to be the final boss.
@@cherrybombwaffles518 We just got an announcement recently for the new Mario and Luigi RPG and just the trailer alone is full of character and personality.

i hope voice acting becomes a mainstay in mario from now on, scenes like these wouldnt hit as hard if we didnt actually hear the characters. but thankfully characters like the talking flower make the future look bright
That's the best part. Bowser Jr. never bought into Peach being his mom. He also has no real malice towards Mario or really... anyone. Mischief, undeniable, but no actual malice. He just wants to make his dad proud. And he wants to do it by becoming stronger than the guy who keeps beating his dad. Also amazing is that Bowser makes it clear at every turn that, win or lose, he loves his boy and is proud of him whatever happens... he NEVER leaves that in doubt. And that holds true not just for BJ but for ALL the Koopalings... canonically his adopted kids. He loves them all and plays no favorites. Bowser is just straight up the best most wholesome dad in video games.
Wait, the Koopalings are *canonically* his adopted kids? I've been led to believe the original English translations of the Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World manuals have said so, but has any of the official games said as much since then? Like, Origami King or any of the Mario & Luigi games they appear in? I *want* it to be true, make no mistake, but retcons can be cruel...
@@mdalsted It gets mentioned repeatedly in Smash Bros. In fact... according to Smash Bros the reason BJ and the Koopalings all have Clown Cars is because Bowser wanted to give one to BJ as a suprise present because BJ kept asking, but then he realized if he only gave one to BJ he might make the Koopalings feel like he loved BJ more than them. So he waited until he had one for ALL of them and gave all of them their own Clown Car all at the same time. And the reason ALL the Koopalings are present is because when BJ got his invitation he said his brothers and sister deserved to all go, too, and asked Master Hand to invite them as well. Which they did.
@@GuukanKitsune Wait, really? Where in Smash does it say that? I know in Pit's convo with Palutena, they said the Koopalings got copies of the Clown Car, but I can't remember anything on the subject beyond that...
Bowser is one of those characters you can never hate. There are times I wish he does win and come out victorious. I’m also happy that despite being this huge threat that can totally overrun the Mushroom Kingdom, he’s a really nice guy when you get to know him.
Paper Mario Opening, Dream Team (at the end of battle, he just KOs mario), Mario Oddessy twice. I feel they definitely counts to say well Mario comes back to defeat Bowser it doesn't count. Well, if a sports team beats rivals that have been beating them all season, the wins of the team don't get cut there season wins and given to the other team, do they?
@@Lampoluke BIS had without a doubt one of the best endings of any Mario game. The fact that Peach baked Bowser a cake made me so happy for him, and I appreciate that Peach stood to the "hero gets a cake" staple of the franchise. It made his endeavors feel more appreciated, and showed that, even if he is the typical bad guy, the Mario gang still sees him as an ally when the chips are down.
It's things like this that make me pray for Jr in the next Mario movie. The relationship and interactions we get between him and Bowser are always great.
I’m now realizing what makes it better is at that moments he’s not about to start another revenge plan, he’s saying let’s lick our wounds a bit before we do anything.
I seem to remember when they first introduced Bowser Jr. that he was just a younger version of Bowser that got brought up in some time travel plot, but somewhere that changed into him legitimately being Bowser's son.
Jr. was first introduced in Mario Sunshine. The younger Bowser you're thinking of is Baby Bowser, the young Bowser from the Yoshi's Island series. He's also seen in Mario & Luigi Partners in Time as Prince Bowser.
Bowser: Jr, I've got something... difficult to tell you about Princess Peach. Bowser Jr: I know she's not really my mama. Someday, when I'm bigger, I wanna fight that Mario again. Bowser: That's my boy! Well put, son. A royal koopa lite is as strong as ever. But for now, let's just rest a while.
I don't know how but this makes the scene much better, makes you feel like jr is not doing it out of obligation, it shows that he also feels this rivalry and he does want to overcome him
I think it'd be adorable if Ludwig were done with Lisa's voice and you did one of the Lisa/Homer bonding moments, like when she's playing the saxophone for him and Homer's dancing around the room singing.
Amazing work, I think I like this even better than the actual cutscene! If they ever do a scene like this in a Mario Movie sequel, I want it to be just as expressive as this!
Aww, this was so cool. A bit unfortunate that this is the only game with spoken dialogue between these two because I'd definitely wanna see more of it in your likeable animation style.
This is what changed Bowser from "the guy Mario fights a lot" to my favorite Mario Character. And its ironically from a game where he only shows up to be the final boss.
Paper Mario 64 helped with that too.
