Not really a lore joke if the lore isn’t real. Amy’s only ever mistaken anyone for Sonic if it was established beforehand to be an easy assumption to make, and she always realizes her mistake the second she gets a good look.

I don't know how many times I kept watching this video every time I see this, but I'm going to love this so much. I can't stop laughing at this. Like in the original game, I love how the subtitles look realistic and the voice acting in every Sonic character sound really talented and hilarious. The editing is spot-on. This is crazy and it's fucking great.
I love how Amy is the only one who believes that the avatar is the real Sonic. It really matches her character since she in Unleashed she somehow mistook the Werehog as normal Sonic, and pretty much every time a new hedgehog character gets introduced there's always at least one scene of Amy mistaking them for Sonic even if they look nothing alike. Amy canonically thinks anything that looks remotely like Sonic is the real thing.

She DECIDED goes to adventures and she realized that she can made her own adventure and finally protect someone. She far from damsel in the stress and training to be better. Not scared to tell Sonic her position. Seeing good even in her enemies and tries to help others. She tries over and over again. Can be persistent to give hope to her friends to not give up or protect others. She helped Birdy to find his family, helping Gamma to realize what he doing and change his view on life, helping Shadow recall his true purpose, helping Cream and Big to find messing friends, protect Sonic and change Silver's perspective on his actions, leader who helping others in IDW comics. If she in character, she could be shine. Of course because different games writing differently, this creates confusion. SA2 you can see how they screw her development. She don't use hammer, focus on Sonic again, she not doing her own business and friends ignoring her. She not fight completely forgot that in the previous game, she had already overcome the fear of enemies. Heros not helping, her mean goal is Sonic, she still wanna help Cream and Big but she talking about only Sonic isn't good for her and why she don't ask Sonic about Chocola and Froggy? I know SA1 not perfect for portrays but she still has character. Again, she could be herself, think and doing HER things, hangout with HER friends and helping others. Here's why l wanna that writers don't go to extremes. I want Amy to be treated normally like everyone. Potential to show her like regular person with physical abilities. If we not change her but change situations, Amy's story can be mixed between adventures that can create new abilities like sharply down with a hammer creates an earthquake, high jumps, when you untwist you can control it in different directions. And lobby where can you communicate with the residents, dressing, cooking, guessing on Tarot cards, to help organize an attack and just rest. It could show different sides of her and situations. (I don't know how games works, just sharing ideas). It's how I view Amy. But you can interpreted her like just a girl, fan girl, psycho, comic relief because of illogical trops, cliches, bad writing, porters and lack of caring. Like in that case Tails-coward, Knuckles-idiot, Sonic-jerk, Shadow-edge lord. I think it's not fair, why everyone can have it, but she haven't? Yes, she not as great as others but this not mean that need to take away what she already have. Characters can work if they are well written and logically brought to development, and not to throw those things in the next games expecting them do it themselves. I know why they didn't want to do include her, but why added her when you don't know what to do with her and bad portraying her?

I love how Amy is the only one who believes that the avatar is the real Sonic. It really matches her character since she in Unleashed she somehow mistook the Werehog as normal Sonic, and pretty much every time a new hedgehog character gets introduced there's always at least one scene of Amy mistaking them for Sonic even if they look nothing alike. Amy canonically thinks anything that looks remotely like Sonic is the real thing.
She also mistook Shadow for Sonic in Adventure 2.

Amy is example of how the creators and players interpretations can be different and how they effect on her reputation. For me: she was a character.
Amy is kind, understanding, optimistic. She DECIDED goes to adventures and she realized that she can made her own adventure and finally protect someone. She far from damsel in the stress and training to be better. Not scared to tell Sonic her position. Seeing good even in her enemies and tries to help others. She tries over and over again. Can be persistent to give hope to her friends to not give up or protect others. She helped Birdy to find his family, helping Gamma to realize what he doing and change his view on life, helping Shadow recall his true purpose, helping Cream and Big to find messing friends, protect Sonic and change Silver's perspective on his actions, leader who helping others in IDW comics. If she in character, she could be shine. Of course because different games writing differently, this creates confusion. SA2 you can see how they screw her development. She don't use hammer, focus on Sonic again, she not doing her own business and friends ignoring her. She not fight completely forgot that in the previous game, she had already overcome the fear of enemies. Heros not helping, her mean goal is Sonic, she still wanna help Cream and Big but she talking about only Sonic isn't good for her and why she don't ask Sonic about Chocola and Froggy? I know SA1 not perfect for portrays but she still has character. Again, she could be herself, think and doing HER things, hangout with HER friends and helping others. Here's why l wanna that writers don't go to extremes. I want Amy to be treated normally like everyone. Potential to show her like regular person with physical abilities. If we not change her but change situations, Amy's story can be mixed between adventures that can create new abilities like sharply down with a hammer creates an earthquake, high jumps, when you untwist you can control it in different directions. And lobby where can you communicate with the residents, dressing, cooking, guessing on Tarot cards, to help organize an attack and just rest. It could show different sides of her and situations. (I don't know how games works, just sharing ideas). It's how I view Amy. But you can interpreted her like just a girl, fan girl, psycho, comic relief because of illogical trops, cliches, bad writing, porters and lack of caring. Like in that case Tails-coward, Knuckles-idiot, Sonic-jerk, Shadow-edge lord. I think it's not fair, why everyone can have it, but she haven't? Yes, she not as great as others but this not mean that need to take away what she already have. Characters can work if they are well written and logically brought to development, and not to throw those things in the next games expecting them do it themselves. I know why they didn't want to do include her, but why added her when you don't know what to do with her and bad portraying her?
