I have looked for reaction videos for this movie a few times and can never find any. This movie is really underrated and under the radar. Enjoyed your watch through!
Your channel is one of the most underrated reaction channels on UA-cam. Most of the other channels are shallow and don't appreciate the cinematography, writing, editing, and acting the way that your reactions do. I hope to see your channel gain the popularity that it deserves.
An excellent choice of a very under rated film. You take chances on lessor known films and I appreciate that. You may never hit 500 thousand subscribers but us serious lovers of cinema will keep checking in on Sunday's to see what you're up to
I remember being very loved by this movie (with a ripple effect nod to other dark films like Mystic River). I think it was the first time I’d ever seen Billy Crudup and being so impressed. Kevin Bacon effortlessly rides that thin line between so many genres; if you have a chance, catch him in The Woodsman. It’s not an easy film but he’s remarkable.
WOAH!!! Ok, I think I only have myself to blame... there are some films I would recommend (usually based off how the reactor felt about different genres (ie. when someone is getting into Copland and are wondering "why has no one talked about this film?")) and this was definitely one of them. I think that by the time your channel showed up I had just been worn down from always suggesting it (and some other titles) to no avail. Also, not being a patreon member means 'we' will next-to-never have our suggestions heard. I did look at my past history with you and you actually have watched a few of my suggestions (and you were quite happy, ie Stranger Than Fiction, Four Weddings). Having said all that, I am so glad you (the first I think?) watched this and got into it. Yes, the individual performances, wow, and how understated they were. On repeat viewings, I tend to fast-forward it to the 'present day' as they're about to walk into the bar, everything is so well done I can't watch the first half. THANK you again for checking this out.
I've seen this movie many times and agree with you that it's very under appreciated. There are a few things that don't necessarily work for me, the primary one being that I don't buy that Michael grew up to be a district attorney. I don't know what it is, and I know it works for the story, but it just seems like a piece of the story that was forced into place and it pulls me out of it. But that's incidental to what the movie has going for it. I think my favorite character is King Benny.
If it were about anything else, this movie would be much more appreciated. Stacked cast, explosive acting, iconic scenes, writing, directing, even the small roles. And it's a Barry Levinson film: A director who can't be praised too highly. You can't go wrong with his top movies, and a bunch of the overlooked ones too.

Much better movies by Barry Levinson include Diner, Tin Men, Avalon, Liberty Heights, Bugsy, Wag the Dog and Jimmy Hollywood.
