    Hello, I am an 'old school' fan here. Was introduced to Gundam when I was 9 years old back in 1980-1981. I got a couple of Gundam toys as gifts from a relative overseas when I was a kid.
    All I want for Christmas is a round trip ticket to Japan, and my first stop will be this place, The Gundam Base Tokyo.
    Thanks for sharing!!!

    This is the video that hits the head on the nail. I think people say shop at Yodabashi because it is so easy to find, and the prices are still good compared to shopping online in the states. Surugaya is my first stop every time I go to Akihabara.

  • @BaconLordBear

      @@AlexdadoofStudios I've saved both of those video's to review when I go to Japan. I knew from the start the Gundam Base would not be the least expensive but knowing where to find the deals, that's super nice. Out of curiosity, do you need to really speak japanese over there?

    Much appreciated, this guide is super clutch. I'm looking to go to Tokyo in a month or so, primarily for Gunpla shopping. Last time I went to Japan was right before they took down RX-78. I actually moved my trip up by a month to visit before they did. I spent most of my time in the Kansai area though, so other than Gundam Base and Mandarake, I didn't really do much Gundam shopping. Most of the places I visited in Akiba were street level, and apparently all the good stuff is on the top floor. LOL
    Enjoyed the video - I plan to watch it again and take notes!
    Interested in checking out your vlog as well. Thanks again for all the info. Take care.

    Loved the shopping guide and the price comparison. But some shops like Bic, Volks and Yodobashi have discounts for credit card usage and tourists (since they are duty-free shops). Were the prices in the comparison factored the discounts?

    • @AlexdadoofStudios
      @AlexdadoofStudios  3 роки тому +1

      Nope, purely list prices.
      Because not everyone is gonna spend 5000yen or more at a shop. So I just put the prices present on the box/shelves.

    nice vid! it is basically nails almost every good places for gunpla shopping
    so another place that I found really cheap gunpla is in den den town in osaka, I forgot the name of the shop, it is on the 2nd floor, full of gunpla, and they had 50% off for build diver kits, even though some of the kits were only out for like few weeks!
    wow, I feel like an idiot not knowing surugaya, I went to japan twice and it is completely under my radar, thanks for the info, I will go to japan next year and gonna pick up a lot of p bandai stuffs (and frame arms girl)
    my 1st visit, I came in completely blind and only went to yodobashi and mandarake in akiba and nakano broadway (gundam base tokyo closed for refurb and exchanging rx78 to unicorn). yeah, I was dumb
    my 2nd visit I went to yamada denki ikebukuro, and gundam base tokyo. I found that yamada denki ikebukuro is a good place for one stop shopping for regular release. if you don't have a lot of time, then go to yamada denki, they usually have very cheap price + complete selections of kits
    *in Yodobashi camera, if you said you don't need points for your membership card, they can give you 10% off for any of their item

    • @AlexdadoofStudios
      @AlexdadoofStudios  5 років тому +1

      Ignite999 V
      Thanks for the content suggestion!
      I love getting ideas for new content, but there’s a problem with what you’re asking...
      because rarity of a kit is highly dependent on external factors such as reprint cycle on Bandai’s end, or shifting market changes, or even just shifts in people’s tastes which will ultimately increase or decrease availability of a specific kit or series.
      Additionally it’s very difficult for me to objectively speak on what a ‘good limited edition/pbandai kit’ is..
      namely because what some people want and prefer in kits will greatly different than my own. Some people love milky clear kits, or sparkled gloss injection molded kits, or just want things from the MSV line...
      so I think it would be difficult to objectively frame the concept in a way to be good general advice in that nature..
      Like in the case of this video, I basically made the video with the mindset to basically save people the hassle of jumping around from shop to shop - and ultimately save time and money by utilizing the research I’ve done for them. It’s objective, it’s clear, and simple. Hehe
      But yeah if there’s a specific angle or different idea you had in mind? I’m all ears man! Appreciate the love man!

      @@Ptc-hn6pc honestly, i wouldn't base my time in japan around purely shopping. there so much that both cities have to offer in terms of places to visit and things to see and food to eat... so honestly, i'd say both are equally as good in terms of selection and pricing as well as tool and whatever you're looking for. cuz you can probably knock out all your shopping in either city in literally a day or two easily... soo maybe focus more on things you wanna do and experience... cuz shopping is.. just shopping. you're not even going to be able to stick that much in your suitcase to begin with :P

    I'm not going. But pick me up as many mg zaku 2 kits as you can get. Willing to spend up to 30,000 yen what's that. Like 50$? Seriously. I try looking for kits on us Gundam store. Are they kidding? High price for shipping and out of the essential kitsi want and need. Zaku's, mazinga infinity. And lots of UA-camrs refer to them as the best. there's more selection and better deals on eBay. The only thing is that it's directly from Japan. That means long wait. I ordered a gera Zulu and it took like three months.

    • @AlexdadoofStudios
      @AlexdadoofStudios  5 років тому

      30,000 is roughly 300usd lol
      Usagundamstore is actually not bad.
      Granted yes there’s a markup cuz of shipping and import fees from japan, also - they’re a business... there has to be some overhead. But I don’t think they’re that bad in terms of pricing for a shop based in the US.
      Sure you can find cheaper online or directly from japan. But USAGS is going through proper channels and importing as a company, so to me, it’s understandable that pricing may not be the same as in Japan.
