It was lighter, and more versatile and could carry a heavy vehicle without the need for a winch or cables to hold the vehicle with! The cool thing is they both used the same engines and the engines on the V-12 (Mi-12 Homer) are the same as the Mi-6 and Mi-10. They wanted to put jet turbines on them but after Mil passed away, they abandoned the project and as a result, the Mi-26 Halo was born.
