Haha, everything you mention you don't like about this film are things I liked 😄I really like the glow, halation and the green cast, I think it gives it a look that's unique and different from other film stocks. Thank you for the video, I think the portraits you took with Niki are great.

And I couldn’t agree with you more. Saved me from making my own “not happy” video about Cinestill 400. I admit I was drawn by some shooters results of vintage look but for me, in 120 the halation, and the massive magenta hue just made it unpleasant. I shot a range of subjects and the most disappointing was sunset. The halation flare on a fence post and the neutralized sky colours just made it disappointing. I hoped I’d like it but it just made me want to colour correct, and even then it was not nice.
    Too bad.
It’ll have to be Portra for me.

Very funny that you mentioned disliking the purple tint to the shadows bc I remember being 14/15 and messing around with my photos in GIMP to do exactly that! Haha. Very excited to try out this film stick!

Nice video :) just bought some 400D and was looking for different reviews on it. Not sure how i feel about it yet seeing the examples i have seen on different forums or videos. I thought i was going to be able to shoot it more at evening /night scenes, but hearing your thoughts and also seeing the green tint it might not be what im after. I DID like your portraits though and the greenery around making it sort of dreamy and 70s looking somehow. Just getting notion now what to use it for helped so thank you :) Also not sure what to shoot it with yet either, that of course will matter a lot too. Thought of either using my Bessa and the elmarit 28/ summicron 50 combo, or maybe my Nikon with a 28 and a 58 mm VL lens. It will be for street shooting mostly and maybe get some nice environmental shots around stockholm.

Before the digital era, you could buy various kinds of really interesting film stocks from film supply companies in Hollywood who took some of their "short ends" and wound the film on 35mm spools for stills shooters' uses.

Really appreciate the honest review. While I do like the halations that Cinestill 800T gives, I only shoot it when I want the effect. Otherwise, like you mentioned, I'd prefer something a little more neutral. Also, absolutely love the portrait shots at the end though.

For the beach shots probably around 1/125 at f11 or 16, night was around 30th of a sec at f2 and portraits at 1/1000 at f2
