Even if you think that you know what you are doing, it's does you no harm to refresh your skills. Great lesson Dilby, looking forward to seeing the next one. I sometimes struggle with my top end, so I'll all over that one like a choc-ice on a toddler.
Mate, perfect timing for tutorial. Mixing low is a bit of a challenge. I noticed when not only sidechain is important but also to make little slope down with EQ on fundamental Freqs where kick lands
Hi Dilby. Thanks for the great content in your channel! I have a question, I seem to hear an interruption in minute 1 and 49 seconds of your remix of The Awakening, in both Spotify and UA-cam.
Hi dilby, love these tips. I have a question, you said to put a gain plugin/utility of +7DB on your master so that we can take it off incase we overshoot or are too hot/or need to send it in for mastering. My question is, what if the mastering engineer asks for a -6db file? Would I still keep the +7db of gain? Or would I remove it? And if I remove it, how would I reach the -6 target again? Silly one I’m sorry 😅
I always have to reduce my kick by 10 DB because by the time I'm done saturating it and processing it through compressors it would be too loud I master my own songs though so I'm never looking at strictly just a mixed version because I'm always moving into my master chain Interesting
@@13thJ I would consider the type of processing you are describing to be sound design, not mixing. I would do all of that prior to the point at which this video begins.
Yo, noticed you using the TMA Studios and i bought them for myself but found the sound quality to be highly unusual and not sound that good. How do you mix with these?
@@Razsound I don't. I use Sennheiser HD650 as my studio headphones. These are great for recording videos as they're wireless. But, the sound is not bad. Any new listening source is going to take time to get used to. But for the price, the TMA Studio is not the best value . They are expensive because of the super low latency wireless. Which to be fair is pretty amazing. But you're paying a significant amount for that technology. The Sennheiser HD 650 are a similar price and are wired open back headphones. I've been using mine for 10 years and I'm very happy with them. I would recommend returning the TMA Studio and getting some 650 if that is an option.
Could you also make a video on .. when two arpeggios going on the same frequency spectrum While one plays one note , another changing on different keys. How to find space for them. I finished the track, and used Sample delay to widen one of those to make space, but on EQ i used a little curve on Changing key arp to make space for Arp which going on same note… Is there other ideas please Thanks mate
Simple answer is you will get the best results by giving each element it's own space in the frequency spectrum or the time spectrum. You could try panning one left and one right. But I would recommend to choose one end either turn the other one off or move it up an octave or two. Less is more and the magic comes when The elements have space.

Do you put FreeG on every track with a pre of 7? Is that a part of your default midi/audio track when you vreate a new one?
No mate, just on the master like it is in this video. But that is part of my template, so when I open Ableton Live it is like that by default.

Thanks, Dilby 😃 What headphones would you recommend for mixing electronic stuff (house, techno, trance, etc)?
